I've gotta admit that graphically, Onslaught is the coolest boss I've ever seen. He just looks so menacing in his psudo-Magneto armor. Anyways, after exchanging threats and insults with your character, the final battle will begin. Here's all the info you'll need to know in order to beat the first form with enough energy to spare to fight his resurrected self.
Hyper Grav
Onslaught releases patches of Hyper Gravity that track your character. Once they make contact, your character will be grabbed and pulled toward Onslaught. During this time, he cannot move, block or attack. He will be completely helpless and susceptible to just about any attack that Onslaught wants to follow up with. They are unblockable and the only way to avoid getting caught is to super jump. It takes a while for them to actually start moving toward your character so use that time to get away. You could also throw a projectile to neutralize the Hyper Gravs if you're gutsy.
Psionic Puppets
Onslaught calls certain characters to come and fight you while he takes a breather. These are powered versions of regular characters and you must kill them before Onslaught comes back into the fray. It's basically Onslaught's way of switching out of the fight and recovering his lifebar. Kill the puppet character quickly so that Onslaught doesn't heal himself too much. Don't worry though, cause the puppets will be missing most of their lifebars before they even jump in, making them easy kills.
Sentinel Air Strike
Aside from his helper Sentinel, Onslaught has a squadron of Sentinels which bomb you whenever he wants. They fly in from the side of the screen and air strike your character with lots of little bombs. Like all the rest of his moves, they do a lot of chipping damage. Super jump away from them if you can cause the block damage is a bitch. If you wanna take a risk, you can attack em. Hitting one with a Fierce or Roundhouse will cause it to blow up before releasing it's payload.
Teleport
Onslaught disappears in a flash of light and reappears somewhere else on the screen. Expect him to do this move very, very often. Simply put, he will telport out of every multi hitting attack that you pull off. Wether it's an air combo or a super, he'll get out of it. This is also his way of turning around since he can't do it normally. Avoid using any supers when fighting him because this move makes it not worth the level of super meter used up.
Magnetic Shockwave
Onslaught rears back and releases a pillar of Magnetic energy. It acts as a wave, making your character "surf" to the other end of the screen. It comes out extremely quickly and does a lot of normal damage if Onslaught has his back to the corner. However, if he hits your character with it while they're in the corner, it will just knock them down with a little life taken off. The chipping damage that it does is also rather weak compared to his other moves so blocking it is a fine defense.
Mega Optic Blast
Behold....Onslaught stole Cyke's power. Watch out for it because it does mega damage and is a very powerful chipper. He will pull this move off very often, especially after a Hyper Grav. Luckily for us though, it has one very big weakness. Since he fires it from his face, there is a little spot right next to him where a character can crouch while this move is going on. Managing to get into that sweet spot will almost ensure your victory. Just keep hitting him with low attacks while he's shooting at air.
Magnetic Tempest
This super looks and functions exactly like Magneto's old super from XSF. It does tremendous chipping damage, making it almost useless to block it. If your character is far from Onslaught as this move comes out, it's best to jump and avoid most of the chunks. However, if he starts it while right on top of you, be prepared for some major chipping damage.
Onslaught Headcrush
Onslaught rushes forward with streaks of energy around him. He'll usually pull it off when you're a third of a screen away. It is extremely fast and will often catch you offgaurd. The normal damage and block damage that it does is incredible. Luckily, this move also has a weakness that can be exploited. Onslaught will be positioned right next to your character after he rushes. You can then crouch and attack him while he just stands there absorbing the hits.
Quite frankly, Onslaught is a pansy. The only thing he's got going for him is the ability to punish stupidity and all of his powerful attacks that do insane block damage. Other than that, he's got nothing at all. Anyone with a brain and decent knowledge of their character will be able to beat Onslaught easily.
- Onslaught cannot block. However, this does not mean that you can just combo or super him all day. That's why he's got his teleport. If you're planning to combo him, try and keep it down to three or four hit combos cause he will counter out of nowhere. Go for damage, not flashiness.
- Onslaught's Mega Optic Blast is a big weakness for him. Sure, it does insane damage if it connects, but do you guys see that big ass hole right next to his feet? It's big enough for any medium sized character to crouch in and attack. This is why it's usually better to use your smaller characters to fight the first form. Save your heavy hitters for the second. Just crouch in that hole and attack until the beam ends. Wait until he tries it again and repeat.
- Which attacks should you use while crouching in "the hole"? Well, get to know your character. It's best to have a quick crouching attack that moves your character as little as possible. The best generic combo to try is C.Jab, C.Strong. Just keep on repeating until he dies. Get to know what your character does before trying this. For example, Ryu's C.Strong is very useful because he only moves his arm to punch. On the other hand, Megaman's C.Strong is horrible cause he hops up and does an uppercut, making him jump right into the path of that beam.
- Sometimes, he'll be smart and instead of the Mega Optic Blast, Onlsaught will try a Headcrush, Shockwave or Magnetic Tempest. There's not much you can do against these moves so just block em and take the damage. The Headcrush can be push blocked but don't try it on the other two.
- Onslaught will also try the Hyper Gravs very often. You've got a few options here. You can either super jump away and hope to avoid them, or you can try to neutralize it. It's usually a better idea to just jump but if you wanna hold your ground, try to throw a fireball into the center of the Hyper Gravs while they're forming. Basically anything that generates an energy field will work. Saotome Fire and Captain Corridor work here as well.
- Use your helpers!! Of course you should only call them when you're relatively safe but helpers really do wonders against him. The multi hitting ones do a lot of damage. Also, certain helpers will even neutralize the hyper gravs for you. Just keep in mind that helpers are almost useless against the second form so you might as well use em up in this fight.
- Well that's about it. Most of you will be able to beat him anyway even without my help cause he's really a wuss. The idea is to totally destroy him with little or no life taken away from your guys. The problem is that if Onslaught First Form manages to weaken you enough, his second form will just kick your butt all over the place. Make sure you've got enough of a safety net for the next match.
