Ryu's Ken Mode
"Alright! Now I can go shopping with Eliza!"

Hmmm....I dunno. I can't explain this. Maybe this is Ryu's playboy side? He got sick of being a lone warrior and decided to show off a little bit to get some chicks. He looked at Ken and got jealous of all the attention that he got from female fans and decided to learn Ken's style to get some action....real action! So, with the Shotokan Switch, Ryu gains speed, Ken's funky kicks, strange specials and risky supers.

Move Commands

Overhead Axe Kick +MK
Ryu lifts his foot upward and axe kicks his opponent. This move is unblockable except in a standing position. This makes it extremely useful to pull off on turtles that just love to crouch block all day. Watch out because it takes him a while to actually start the kick, leaving him open to counter attack.

Hadoken +P
The Ken version of Ryu's fireball dissipates before going the entire screen. This makes it less effective when trying to play keep away. Stick to using it up close and in combos. While in the air, it goes diagonally downward at his opponent.

Shoryuken +P
The Ken version Dragon punch is the best of the three. All versions of the Ken Dragon punch are flaming and do multiple hits. They are extremely quick and have minimal recovery time for a rising uppercut move. They can also be done in the air, making them useful for countering air combos and acting as an AC Finisher. If you like doing Dragon Punches, then Ken mode is best for you!

Tatsumaki-Senpuukyaku +K
The Ken version of the Hurricane kick is different from the other Shotokans. If it connects, he rises into the air with his opponent while kicking them, finishing with an axe kick that sends his opponent downward. The kick button used determines the angle of Ryu's ascent. Short has him sticking close to the ground while Roundhouse makes him rise almost vertically. When used in the air, it acts just like any other Shotokan Hurricane, following the arc of his jump and hitting multiple times.

Supermove Commands

Shoryu Reppa+2P(Level One)
Ryu does Ken's multi hitting triple Dragon Punch super. Like all of it's previous incarnations, it is extremely fast, invincible at start up and comboes very easily. His most effective super, it should be used extremely often. Watch out if it misses because he'll be left high in the air and unable to block. Most opponents will be able to capitalize on this weakness.

Shinryuken +2K(Level One)
Ryu rises into air, surrounded by a flaming column of death. His most powerful super in Ken mode is also relatively easy to set up. Simply hit em with your launcher and immediately cancel into it. The damage that it does is phenomenal and it's useful against jumping opponents. Watch out because if it is blocked or misses, Ryu will be left wide open to counter attack. It has no horizontal range so make sure that Ryu's opponent is directly above him before trying this move.

Shippu Jinrai Kyaku +2P(Level One)
The super from SF3 is back yet again. Ryu hits his opponent repeatedly with a series of flaming kicks while rising up into the air and knocking them down with an axe kick. It does good damage and is invincible during startup. Also, it can be comboed much like how you'd combo a Shinkuu Hadoken in Ryu Mode. It's a great super to pull off now and then because it doesn't leave him as vulnerable as the other two.

Shotokan Switch +P(Level One)
Ryu turns his back and he changes identities. When you're tired of Ken's arrogant and flashy attitude, hit Jab to become the powerful yet serious Ryu or Fierce to gain the evil intent and power of Akuma!

Team Counter

Shoryuken HP+HK(Level One)
This is a great counter for use against up close attacks. It's speed and Ryu's invincibility will allow him to counter even the fastest multi hitting supers. However, it's almost useless against beam supers and screen wide attacks.

Team Super

Shoryu Reppa HP+HK(Level Two)
In my opinion, one of the best team supers because of the fact that it is comboable. Almost any other super will complement this one. Always start it with Ryu. If he comes in as the second character, he doesn't help much in terms of chipping damage.
