Captain America
"For Truth, Justice and the American Way!"

Cap has been given back his old speed and comboability, making him a very dangerous character once again. He can play a great game of keep away, but he's got the speed and power to get up close and personal. Play wisely because Cap relies on strategy and thinking ahead as opposed to button smashing.

Advantages

- That big shield of his is really Cap's best friend. It's incredible reach gives him good air and ground priority. He rules the air with his Fierce punch. Even Spider-Man has a hard time beating him up there. On the ground, his S.Fierce reaches as far as Hulk's lunge punch. Cap can tag a dashing opponent before they have a chance to get near him.

- So you'd like to trade in speed and comboability for Cap's normal power, range and priority? Well alright then! Throw away that Shield of his! Without it, most people think that Cap is weakened, but fighting bare-fist allows him to combo all of his supers and it speeds him up quite a bit. The hard part is keeping his Shield away from him though. :)

- That super soldier serum must be some potent stuff cause it's given Cap a lot of attack power. He's the third strongest character in the game, slightly trailing behind Zangief and Hulk. A combination of his strength, reach and speed maked him a powerful offensive character.

- Cap has a great assortment of supers. Each one has a specific time and place to be used. Final Justice is the best mistake punisher, Hyper Stars & Stripes is the fastest and the easiest to combo while Hyper Charging Stars is the most painful and completely invulnerable.

- For such an honest guy, Cap sure is a slippery fellow. He can air strike with his Shield Slash, cartwheel, and double jump. Catching him is really difficult if he doesn't feel like getting caught.

Disadvantages
- Cap's attacks are quite awkward. It's tough to get the timing cause a lot of his normal moves have delay and recovery. He can't chain all six hits in an air combo and it's hard to set up the awe inspiring S.Roundhouse. Not a beginner combo character.

- Watch out if Cap loses his shield. Without it, his punches have less range, he doesn't have a projectile and his Charging Stars won't go through fireballs. Of course, you gain the advantage of combos and speed that I told you guys about earlier, but if you're not that good at cancelling into supers, then it'd be a good idea to get the Shield back.

- A lot of Cap's attacks will leave him wide open to counter attack. Prime examples are the Stars & Stripes, Hyper Stars & Stripes, Charging Stars and C.Fierce. S.Fierce and any of the Shield Slashes can be jumped over, giving the opponent a chance to hit Cap with an air attack. Be careful when using these moves. Never throw them out at random because you'll pay for it. Always make sure that they connect by setting them up. Look in the combo section for details.

- Though he's invincible during his Cartwheel, Cap can be thrown in the middle of it. If the opponent knows this, then they'll have a free shot at Cap. Use it sparingly and only if you're sure that your opponent isn't expecting it.

Offense
- Like I said, use that big shield of his to attack. It's great as a setup for a launcher because it leaves them stunned long enough for Cap to land and launch. If used on the ground, it will act as a strike and knock them across the screen, leaving Cap safe from counter attack

- Always end any knockdown combos with a jab Shield Slash. Most of the time, your opponent will be too dumb to roll, allowing you to get that extra attack in there. Even if the attack is blocked, the Shield will do a little bit of block damage.

- Cap is one of the best counter attack characters. All of his supers are extremely fast, have good range and are generally great at punishing mistakes. Whenever you have a chance, use the Hyper Charging Stars because it is his most powerful super. Final Justice is easy to connect and will leave him safe even if it's blocked. Hyper Stars and Stripes is extremely fast and will counter any move.

- A fun thing to do is use the cartwheel to get behind your opponent. Most of the time, they'll get confused and try to attack you, allowing a free combo and sometimes, they'll block the wrong way. Watch out if they throw you though. Don't try this on the computer cause it will always counter correctly.

- If you happen to lose your Shield, then go for a Ryu style super combo! Just dash in and hit em with a D.S.Short, S.Fierce --> Final Justice combo. This combo would be otherwise impossible if he had his Shield so take the rare opportunity to punish your opponent with it!

- I love Cap's projectile. Not only is it fast and painful, but it OTG's and is directable as well! The possibilities are endless. If you've just knocked down an opponent, then hit em with the Jab version for some quick damage. The Fierce version is great at defending against aerial attacks like Morrigan's air soul fist and Venom's faggety assed Fang. Oh and it's also an instrument that you can use to play mind games. if you lose your shield, your opponent will defend it tenaciously, thinking that to keep Cap away from his shield means making him defenseless. Capitalize on their ill assumption with a nasty S.Fierce --> Final Justice combo.

- Learn how to OTG with the Hyper Stars & Stripes. This combo does incredible damage and is very hard to roll away from. Also, if you've got to levels of super meter ready, you can pull off a team super for some mega damage.

- The Hyper Charging Star and Hyper Stars & Stripes do incredible block damage. If your opponent is down to about a tenth of his life bar, just put him out of his misery with these moves.

Defense

- Against the smaller, faster guys that love to dash and jump at Cap, use the shield to keep em away. Just jump backwards and hit em with it as they blindly rush in. It works like a charm because they usually don't expect it to reach them.

- Cap can play the Shotokan keep away tactic with his special moves. Pull off a Shield Slash and when they try to jump over it, hit em with a Stars and Stripes. It comes out almost instantly and is one of his best air defending moves.

- If you find an opponent trying to beat Cap in the air, use his double jump to get above them, then hit em with his Fierce. unless the opponent is Chun Li or Strider, they won't be able to compensate for Cap's new height.

- If you're in the air while your opponent pulls off a chipping super on the ground, use the double jump to completely avoid it. You could combine the double jump with a Jab-Shield Slash to give Cap some serious hang time.

Onslaught
First Form - Cap can do the basic crouching strategy against Onslaught. His C.Jab and C.Strong both work very well against the big guy. A good trick to know with Cap is that he can cartwheel to Onslaught's rear side. This allows him to freely attack until he teleports. After that, cartwheel again and repeat. I do believe that the cartwheel will go through Onslaught's hyper gravs. When you've got the chance, pull off a Hyper Charging Stars. Cap is completely invinicible while this move is going on and he won't have to worry about getting countered. It also does insane damage on the sucker too.

Second Form - This is a simple enough fight. Just block when you need to and then just whack him in the face with Cap's Fierce punch. That should kill him in no time. Ultima Onslaught once charged at my Cap with his forearm drill. I managed to beat him with a Hyper Charging Star because the aura in front of Cap makes him totally invincible to attack. Pull it off whenever Onslaught is near the ground.

Fighting Captain America
- Roll a lot. If Cap ever knocks you down, you can bet that he'll be going for an OTG with the Shield slash. Avoid that extra damage by getting off the ground quickly. You could also potentially avoid a very painful Hyper Stars & Stripes OTG.

- Be careful of the Shield. If you jump or dash in on Cap, he'll most probably try to hit you with the Shield. Be ready to block at any time to avoid getting hit. Don't take a risk against that thing. Very few characters have attacks that will reach far enough to even trade hits with it.

- Don't be stupid. Cap's got a whole bunch of counter attacks to pull off when you mess up a move that leaves you open. Take your time and plan everything in advance.

- If you wanna fight in the air, try to get above him. If you're not, then he will beat you everytime. If you can tell that you won't get above him, just block.

- If he loses his Shield, try to keep it away from him. Stand on it, stand in front of it. Without it, he's a lot less of a threat and chances are he'll take some chances to get it back. Capitalize on those risky maneuvers with a counter attack. However, if you find out that he's the kind of player that knows about Cap's increased comboability, then gently herd him back to his Shield.

Overview
Cap is one of the best characters in the game. He's very flexible and can surprise a lot of people with his many different strategies. Also, the advantage that Cap's got is that noone in their right mind will ever call a Cap player a cheap bastard. It's just impossible! So learn how to use this guy. He takes some getting used to at first but after a while, you'll get the hang of it.
