According to former residents there once sat a house on the lot on the corner of Walker and Brown roads in Hilliard . Though none of them had any idea why the house was haunted the one thing they all agreed on was the shared belief that the house was nothing but evil.
First was the curse that overwhelmed the property . Every twenty years a young boy or boys died a horrible death. I have verified at least three such instances . They include two boys playing with their fathers pistolsand shooting each other in a duel , a young boy who hung himself from the large tree outside the house and the last in which a teenage boy was killed in a hunting accident. Former residents reported seeing all of these unfortunates at different times while living there . A young girl who lived in the hung boys room would awaken at night to see him standing over her bed . The two dueling boys could be found playing in dark corners and pulling tricks on the residents of the home . Perhaps the most chilling of the ghostly visits was how the hunting victim was known to return to try to bring his "girlfriend" back with him .(He had been a friend of the family visiting with them for a while and was romantically linked to one of the teenage daughters in the home. )
While there where three known entities linked to the house thats not where the terror ended . The children in the home reported playing with "knocking spirits"
When they would knock on the walls of their romm the sounds would be echoed back to them. Strange sightings and creatures were common place . A large black panther was reported in the area many times. It is said to have been Satans familiar.
Pehaps the most frightening of all was what a lady reported seeing there one day while cooking in her kitchen she suddenly smelled something that she could only desribe as "brimstone". Hearing a scratching from the door she looked out to see what she called "Satan himself"
When I asked her to describe him she replied "If you can imagine a cross between a lizard, a dog and a snake then that is as close as you could come to understanding ."
Many strange happening-ons also took place there. One boy living there was once grabbed by something that tried to pull him into a deep cubbyhole. A grave marker with the hunting victems initials marked on it was found under the house and is still in place at the sight of his death in the woods behind the house.
Sadly or perhaps thankfully, the house no longer stands. It was bought by the local fire department and used for practice firefighting. I have visited the property and I even have to admit that the experience will be forever burnt into my head as it is the only place that I can say I have actually seen anything that might be supernatural.
