Right after the Civil War ended thousands of soldiers began working their way home from the battlefields of the south. One soldier found his way home from dixie aand arrived at the home of a Pike Lake couple . He was sick with a fever and collapsed on their front porch. He never recovered and died a couple of days later . He never told the couple his name and they buried them in their front yard beside the lake.
Visitors to the park often report a ghostly soldier wanderering around at night whistling hymns. Perhaps he is looking for the right person to help him complete his journey home.
