Mental Illnesses Is it me or does it seem like pretty much anyone can be diagnosed with a mental illness theses days? Now i'm not talking about scizophrenia or any major illnesses like that. I'm talking about how everyone I know either has ADD, Depression, or some sort of eating disorder. And it's all starting to seem a little ridiculous to me. "Oh, you don't pay attention in class so you must have ADD, we'll send you to the learning center where they will do all of your work for you!" "Oh, you aren't happy 24/7 so you must be suffering from depression, here take some drugs for it!" It seems like these "disorders" are becoming more and more overprescribed. Now, if you flunk a test it's because you have ADD and so we'll give you a good grade anyways because we know you can't do any better. Or if you arne't always super cheerful and positive you must be suffering from depression so we should all feel sorry for you because you are all hopped up on antidepressants all the time. ANd don't even get me staerted on the whole "I don't look like a sickly supermodel so I need constant attention to give me self confidence so i don't go and throw up my lunch." Menal illnesses have ust become another excuse in our society for people not being the the best we can be. Now i'm not saying that these disorders don't exist, but I am saying that ,in my opinion, at least 95% of the people in Oakwood do not have all the mental problems they say they do. Poor, rich, spoiled kids :(
