| WILDING IN COLORADO SPRINGS |
| Well, it may not be as dramatic or violent as the famous rape of the jogger in Central Park back in 1989, but this episode in my life was somewhat an atrocity. We were stationed in Fort Carson just south of Colorado Springs and we just came back from. Downrage meant that we were in the field conducting maneuvers and were away from urban USA for several weeks. That night one of us scored enough acid for each of us to peak all night. We went "storming" that night despite the fact that it was a weeknight. The commanders usually allow us a day off after coming back from downrange as long as we clean our weapons before turning them into the arms room. I usually went along with the posse which was rather wild at times despite the fact that I was the mellow character. It was about midnight when some of us got a crazy idea to go maurading through the streets tipping cars. I wanted nothing to do with this and I remember another time when we were overlooking a hill on which was a row of miniture houses. Some of us got a crazy idea to start throwing empty beer bottles at these pieces of work. I mean somebody invested a lot of work in these dollhouses but were too naive to realize that some crazed stormtroopers peaking on LSD and alcohol would do great damage to his work. It is amazing how strong the force of "group think" can overpower a dissenter with his posse. I eventually picked up a bottle and chucked it to one of the dollhouses and likewise I joined my people as we methodically went from one car to the next and turning it on its side. I remember a Volkwagen was turned completely upside down. The last vehicle which was a mini-van from the mid-eightees nearly exacted revenge on behalf of his fallen brethren. The "Frisco Ten" had a difficult time overthrowing this behemoth and nearly came down on three of the offenders. Unfortunately the Frisco Ten had the extra strengh derived from lysergia and threw that big chunk of metal on its side. To this day I think about the citizens of Colorado Springs waking up to see their vehicles wounded and disabled. Talking about a bad day in the office! |
