B-Aklas Issue #1
[Aleksi, P.O BOX SC 215 Alvarez St. (1003) Sta. Cruz, Manila]
is it a zine for gay people? Well, definitely maybe anyway, this first issue may open the heart and mind of people on accepting gay people as part of the community. Obviously from the cover and title alone, the zine is not from the punk scene here in the Philippines.. it has articles on queer oppression, some out of this world poems and provoking photos. Anyway, get a copy and see for yourself! - DANE
B-Aklas Issue #2
Lights! Camera! Hada! Wow!!! reading this on the front page of the second issue of this zine makes anyone think that this zine is not related on the underground scene, thus making people think that this is an output writings from gay people. Well, probably right the editor himself I think is gay, coming out with this issue which discussed some write ups on Atheistic Lifestylism, and some interview on a filmmaker studentnotice the weird provoking photos and wrapping it up by a poem. - DANE
B-Aklas Issue #3
I don't know how to react on this issue after reading it. Do I have the complete copy of this? Some page are blank. Well this one focussed on the Bagansya. Discussing this word all throughout. Not to mention the out of this world poem to wrap it again and some photos. Is this issue a finished one? - DANE
Profane Existence #39 $3(world) Broadsheet, offset newsprint, 20 pages.
It never fails to impress me how these crusty Punx churns out great issues, well it took them a year & a half for this one so the wait was well-worth it. Tons of Info. about @ Punk actions/protests from around the globe, Summer events guide 2001, A well-written scene report from DAVAO City (Yehey!!! Up the Fucking Davao Punx!!!) by Mhel of WatchDog 'Zine. Fiery/informative columns by Dan, Felix, Dave Dictor, & more. With Punk As Fuck interviews w/ Tragedy(ex- His Hero is Gone), Shitlist & Hate To State from Belarus. Don't fail to get a copy this, buy, steal, borrow from a Crusty punk near u. - NOEL
RazorCake Fanzine/Webzine #1 $3 8 1/2x 11, offset newsprint, 80 pages.
This started as a webzine & now putting out their first salvo on print, typical American offset punk 'zine with tons of Ads from Punk record labels & alike. Anyway, columns are diverse much the same as on Maximum Rock N Roll (with politics, music, sex, humor, etc.) with some quite informative like the one written by Pog Mo Thon about the Bloody Sunday Massacre in Northern Ireland in '72 & Complete Utter ReToddnation which the writer spills the bean on why he left Flidside & how he was shortchanged by its editor, plus some lame/boring articles & a comics review column which quite give space to comic fanatics. Interesting interviews with Fat Wreck Chords, The Causey Way, The Gossip, Selby Tigers, Smogtown & Youth Brigade piece as the best part (of course if you dig their music & label). - NOEL
So Why Worry? #4
[c/o Gil Russel, PMB 774, 160 N. coit. RD., Richardson, TX 75080, USA]
Comic strip on the cover: A kid is standing when another kid approaches him and shoots him in the head, blowing his brains out. He then turns the gun on himself and does the same. So why worry? This zine from Texas covers mainly extreme music (thrash/grind/powerviolence & the likes). Lots of interviews: Godstomper, Tomsk-7, From Ashes Rise, Hirax Max, Dillinger Escape Plan & Boy Sets Fire, Buried Alive + more. Besides the interviews and many reviews, there's nothing much except for some ads & band photos and of course, columns by the authors. 28 pages in newsprint. - SANNEE
The World Would Be A Much Better Place If Everybody Wore TIGHT PANTS Issue #07
[Tight Pants, PO Box 577, St. James, NY 11780, USA]
the longest name so far that I know for a zine the little zine title explains the unnatural attraction we have toward ill-fitting clothing. This is bad boy number seven as being described and has an overabundance of interviews. Includes a tight interview of the Suicide Machines, Amazing Crowns, River City Rebels and among others. Not to mention a wacky interview with Nerf Herder and The Amazing Crowns. Cool title? Cool columns too check out the Weird Sex Facts, California scene review and lots funny poems. Pretty cool huh check it out! - DANE
Thought Market 1st Quarter 2000 issue. P18 ppd.
[c/o Agee Linan, Bgy. Sto. Nino, San Pablo City 4000, Philippines]
Sorry guys & gals, but I have to review this zine based on my personal
perspectives.I didn't claim to be a zinester, anyway. 'Tis the first time I had a glimpse of this reading material. I was overblown by the whole thing I must admit. Here lies everything I wanted to see in a zine. It covers almost all the interesting topics that was playin inside my head when I was planning to do my own zine. Thoughtful articles, poetry that connects, senseful band interviews. A nice cover art really works for me. This will defy everything that the conventional world of zine making had cast upon your weary eyes. A funny comic strip with a touch of reality makes it more than just a comic gag trip. It also has some personal views that had spewed
from the hands of a zinester from chicago named Michiko (a grrl I usually chat with over the net about queer topics etc.). But hey! It also has the usual gig reviews, scene reports, and zine & records review as well which is apparently mandatory in zine making. Give yourself a favor. Go get this read. - ALBERT
