Iceman
Robert 'Bobby' Drake
What's cooler than being cool? Ice cold! Okay, that was kinda lame (make that really lame), but that is what Bobby Drake is: ice cold. He is the Iceman, a mutant with the ability to generate ice, and lower his body temperature to below zero degrees celsius - which to a girl whose life is water, and vice versa, is not a good thing. Anyway, Bobby is one of the students here at the school who really came into his own during the attack on the mansion, and the events that followed it. He was also forced to tell his parents, who (like mine) were in the dark about their son's special 'gifts'. They thought that he was attending a school for the gifted, but boy, were they wrong! Bobby, Rogue, John and Logan all showed up at Bobby's house after the attack on the mansion, and. . . well, to put it bluntly, got into a bit of trouble. Not only did Bobby have to explain away the presense of Logan (as the Art teacher - though the 'Art' bit was Logan's idea!) and of the two other teens, but he also ended up explaining to his parents that he was mutant. |

But enough of the negative for the moment. Let's get to the good stuff: the romance! Bobby is a real charmer, but he has eyes only for Rogue, the mysterious - and untouchable - southern belle. Unfortunately, Rogue's mutation means that she cannot have any physical contact with another person, lest she robs them of their memories, and, in the case of mutants, their powers. But these two could not control their. . . um. . . well. . . let's just say that Rogue's power didn't stop them. For long. But Rogue's power came into effect, and left Bobby, well, gasping for breath. But not for the reason he'd hoped. . . |
| But that's getting a bit too personal, so let's go back a bit. When the mansion was attacked, he helped the younger students out, all the time his mind on helping Rogue. In the chaos, he met up with John, and the then found Rogue. After some difficulty, they were rescued by Logan. Bobby then helped Logan escape with them by creating a wall of solid ice, separating Logan from Colonel Stryker. From there, they fled the mansion to Boston to meet up with Jean Grey and Storm, but ended up taking refuge at Bobby's parents' home, where they (or rather, John) ended up causing a lot of trouble, and Bobby revealed he was a mutant, and the school was for gifted students - just not what most people would think of as gifted. |  |

After all of that, plus a bit of havoc wreaked by John, Bobby and the others fled his house onto the X-Jet, which had arrived just in the nick of time, thanks to Storm and Jean. But the three students were forced to wait around while the adults worked on a plan to rescue the children who had been taken captive by Colonel Stryker, and were being held up at Alkali Lake. During all of this, Magneto and his comrade Mystique made a temporary alliance with the X-Men, for reasons that were as then unknown. But of course, Bobby and the others were left out of all the action and excitement, and were told to wait in the jet. Bobby and Rogue obeyed, unlike John, who wandered off. |
| During their wait aboard the X-Jet, Bobby and Rogue were forced to deal with one of the most terrible and painful things that any of us mutants have had to endure - having our minds and bodies being invaded by the powerful and Cerebro-enhanced mind of Professor X, who was under control of Colonel Stryker. But although their bodies and minds were in agony, they were together until the end, refusing to let go of the other's hand, even in the face of death. But the two young lovers survived that, only to be witness to something that was possibly even more painful - the loss of Jean Grey. The teacher and X-Man left the safety of the jet to save the occupants from the approaching torrents of water that were about to claim it. Bobby, like Rogue, having stayed aboard the jet, was transported to safety from Alkali Lake, with the rescued X-Kids. After this tragedy, Bobby and Rogue were give the X-Men uniforms they had been admiring on the jet, as well as the X-Men status that went with it. But with the uniforms and title came the responsibilties of being an X-Man. Bobby and Rogue went with the other X-Men to vist the President, and inform him of what had been going on at Alkali Lake. And so were born Iceman and Rogue, the newest members of the X-Men. |
