| This is an Australian 1978
Fairmont GXL Coupe, I bought it in 1990. The
motor was a V8 302 4V Cleveland that ran on
leaded fuel with a C4 T/bar auto. Other options
that were factory fitted to the car were- |
Power
Windows, air Conditioning, Power
Steering, Bucket Seats, Tinted
Glass, Dual Exhaust & Alloy
Wheels
|
| The car was
stripped down to a shell and all dents & rust
removed. Rust sections of the car were cut out
and new panel sections made and welded in. New
front guards and door skins were purchased along
with new rubbers for all openings and windows. |
| The
original engine was replaced with a 3514V
Cleveland from a 1973 Mustang. This motor had
much higher power and being a later US engine ran
well on unleaded fuel. |
| The body
was painted with many coats of Acrylic Lacquer
before the final clear coats were applied to
finish it off. All brightwork was sanded to
provide a key for etch primer to ensure proper
preparation for painting. The gold paint for the
bumpers and moldings was created by trial error
using many different tinters and grades of
metallic to come up with a color that was as
close to real gold as possible. |
| The car was
featured in CUSTOM RODDER and Australian Car
Magazine and served us well as an everyday
vehicle until it met its demise on a road that
stopped before the car could on a very foggy
morning- RIP |
