* FAST FOOD *

February 14, 2000

As I went up to McDonald's for a quick bite cause I haven't eaten all day, I realize that the term "Fast Food" is an oxymoron.  There is very little 'food' and absolutely no "fast" involved with them or any other supposed "fast food" chains any longer.  On top of that, in an effort to save on expenses, they eliminate the number of employees they have and have the managers doing all the work (which can lead into a whole new topic of conversation).  Since the managers are already overworked and underpaid, they are too burnt out to care most of the time.  Just think about how much time you take in line at McDonald's or another fast food joint.

Having worked as a manager for a couple fast food joints in my earlier years, I know the time frames for cooking fresh burgers and fries takes.  Fries take approximately 2 1/2 minutes, and burgers, frozen to on the bun are about 4-5 minutes, based on the grill temperature.  Now, next time you are at the drive through, and you have to wait behind 2 or 3 cars, tell them you want them to drop you some fresh fries.  Odds are that they will be cold by the time you get them since if you have 2 or 3 cars in front of you, it will be 20 minutes to get your food (a bit exaggerated, but not by too much).  I will have to say that Burger King, notorious for it's flame broiled burgers, does have a much better serving time in their drive thru's than most.

Something else I noticed tonight as I went to McDonalds.  Their new burger, the Super Burger or King Burger, or whatever they call it...at one location, about 1-2 miles down the road, had a price of $3.80 for a value meal.  The one I went to had the same meal deal for $5.80 starting out.  What is the difference between the two stores?  Is one better than the other?  Wait, they must use real meat!!!

And another thing, is it me, or is there an issue out there with their sizes?  What happened to the Small, Medium, Large, and occasional Extra Large?  It has been replaced with Medium (which is regular or small, but you have to call it medium otherwise you are wrong and they correct you for it), Large or Super Sized.  I tried finding Super Size in the dictionary, and I guess my edition is kinda old.  Not sure.  So I surfed the web, no luck there either.  Must be a McDonald's language dictionary out there.  I will find someone that works there and ask them what is the deal.
