Oil is the life blood of any engine and our Inline 6's are no exception. Unless you planned on customizing your stock oil pan there was no other choice until now!!! These 6 quart oil pans are made in Australia by "High Energy" performance products and are imported by Fordsix Performance Parts.
These oil pans are a high quality product and were actually made for the Australian 221 ci Inline 6, which just happens to share several similar charectoristics with our own 170-200 ci Inline 6's. The sump area only measures 3/8" deeper, but feature a much wider "sump" area than the stock U.S. oil pan.
As you can see by both of the pictures above, they feature a built in crank scraper and windage tray. According to the instructions I received, you should trial fit the oil pan and slowly turn over the engine to check for any crank to scraper/windage tray clearance issues.
Changing pans was accomplished fairly quickly and on average should only take 3-3.5 hours. Make sure to clean all the old gasket material off the block and clean out the inside of the pan. Now would also be a good time to upgrade to a high volume oil pump but no one makes one for the 170-250 ci Inline 6 at this time.
Heres a tidbit of info I picked up from the FordSix Performance Forums. The FL-299 is a direct replacement for the FL-1A and has a 1/2 quart more capacity, so instead of having the stock capacity of 4.5 quarts of oil you can now add this filter and have a 5 qt capacity.
One problem I encountered was when I tried to install the new pan the oil pump pickup would hit the baffle inside the pan. I finally had to remove the pickup, slide it under the baffle then reinstall the pickup while holding the pan up in place. Glue the gasket onto the pickup tube to make it easier to install.
Make sure that you clean all the old gasket material off the pickup tube and pump when you install the new pickup gasket. I also used blue loctite on the bolts so they wouldnt back out. Change your oil filter and add your choice of oil, fire it up and check for leaks, cleanup your mess and your done!!
That should wrap up the install of this cool piece of Inline 6 speed equipment. Order yours now from
Fordsix Performance Parts.
On some cars it may be necessesary to remove the crossmember for some added clearance. Just remember to properly support your car when you are working on it. Jackstands are a MUST whenever you are underneath a car!!
