| WWE Smackdown Results - 8/5/04 - RVD vs John Cena | ||||||||
| WWE SmackDown! (8.5) Results - Houston, Texas Theodore Long was shown in his office with two photos hanging on his wall. They were of Vince McMahon and Martin Luther King, and Long said they inspired him to create, to dream, and everyday to make Smackdown! something spectacular, a show that gives you excitemenet and entertainment. Long said not to miss one minute of Smackdown! tonight because there will be a Number One Contenders Match for the United States Championship, and that is going to happen right now! Number One Contender Match John Cena vs. Rob Van Dam The music of John Cena hit in the arena as he made his way out to the ring for this Number One Contenders Match against Rob Van Dam! John Cena and RVD locked up and Cena and both men traded some basics. They locked up again and RVD took Cena down for a two count. They again locked up and Cena got RVD in a side headlock and came back with a shoulder block. Cena went for a right hand and RVD went for a side kick and both men had a standoff which recieved some applause from the crowd. RVD and Cena went to work on each other on the outside and RVD scored with a kick to the head off the apron and then went back outside to work on Cena, sending him into the barricade. RVD hung Cena up on the barricade and then went to the apron and was going for his corkscrew legdrop, but Cena got out of the way. RVD met Cena as he was getting inside and went for a suplex but Cena reversed and suplexed RVD to the outside! Cena gave RVD a fisherman's suplex and made the cover for two. RVD took control with stomps in the corner and Booker was shown watching backstage. RVD then scored with a dropkick to the face of Cena in the corner and hit Cena with the split legged moonsault for two. RVD scored with some shoulder thrusts and hit a northern lights suplex for two and then hit a spinning leg drop. RVD then hit rolling thunder for a near fall. Booker was again shown watching backstage as Cena came back and went for the FU, but RVD countered and hit a kick to the head of Cena and went up top and hit a huge leg drop from the top rope for two. Cena fought back and took down RVD with a clothesline and then a back elbow and then a flying shoulder. Cena then hit RVD with a spinning side slam and hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle for a near fall. Cena went up top and RVD cut him off with a kick to the head and then hit a superplex but Cena cradled him and got the win! Winner - John Cena The aftermath: RVD and Cena stared each other down and then showed each other respect. Booker T was shown in the back and Theodore Long came in and they shook hands. Long asked Booker what he thought about Cena being Number One Contender, and Booker said he can beat Cena again. Long said Cena never lost the United States Title, and since Booker is a five time WCW Champion, it gave Long a great idea; Booker T vs. John Cena, the best of five series for the United States Title! Long said it's real simple, if either Booker or Cena win the most matches out of five, and the first match will take place at SummerSlam! Tonight: Spike Dudley and Rey Mysterio will take on the Dudley Boyz and Kurt Angle will be back in action against Charlie Haas! In the arena: The music of Eddie Guerrero hit in the arena as he made his way out in his low rider, and he had Torrie Wilson, Dawn Marie and Sable in the back! They all got into the ring and already in the ring was the stuff that Guerrero stole from Angle's office last week. Eddie got on the mic and said to check out the mamacita's and said they were looking good. Eddie said the countdown has started, ten days till SummerSlam, and ten days until he gets to kick Kurt Angle's ass! Eddie said the auction for Kurt's stuff end's tonight on WWE.com, and the proceeds go to a good cause, so he got his WWE Diva's to come out and help raise the value. Kurt got the cast and put it on the leg of Torrie Wilson and she hobbled around the ring on it and then sat down in the wheelchair. Eddie got Sable to sign the cast and then Dawn Marie signed it. Torrie Wilson then put her autograph on it, and Eddie said that will surely raise the value of the cast and he thanked them, and took the cast off of Torrie's leg. Eddie got Sable to hold up the portrait of Angle, and it covered her face and he began staring at her breasts. All the diva's signed the portrait and Eddie thanked them. Eddie said next is the shadow box which holds a replica of the WWE Championship and he thanked the Diva's for helping him raise the value. Eddie said the other other thing that can raise the price of this merchandise, is that Kurt Angle will be wrestling for the very first time since WrestleMania XX, right here tonight in Houston. Eddie asked who Angle faced at WrestleMania? Was it him? Did he win? Eddie then told the crew to play the footage from WrestleMania where Eddie was able to outsmart Angle and pick up the victory. Eddie said now he remembers who won, and he said that he embarrassed Kurt at WrestleMania, just like he will at SummerSlam. Eddie said that Kurt Angle may have won an Olympic gold medal, but Eddie was in the Olympics too. Eddie then played his SummerSlam commercial and it was of a sprint race, and Eddie had glued all the runners to their starting blocks and then trotted on his way to victory. Eddie said that SummerSlam, Kurt Angle vs. Latino Heat, Viva La Raza! Rene Dupree vs. Orlando Jordan The music of Rene Dupree hit in the arena as he made his way to the ring for the next match on Smackdown, and he will be facing off with a man we have not seen for a while in Orlando Jordan! Dupree and Jordan locked up and Dupree backed Jordan to the corner and went for a cheap shot but Jordan blocked and unloaded on Dupree with rights. Jordan then charged at Dupree, but Dupree backdropped him over the top. Dupree went to the outside and went to work on Dupree and then knocked him down with a right inside the ring and made the cover for two. Orlando Jordan went up to the top rope and came off with a flying cross body onto Dupree, as he was doing the French Tickler, and got the three count! Winner - Orlando Jordan Backstage: The limosine of John Bradshaw Layfield pulled up in the arena and Josh Mathews was there to meet him. JBL said he asked Josh here for a reason. JBL said he is becoming the most popular champion of all time, and people have asked him if he is afraid of the Undertaker and JBL said that tonight he is going to call out the Undertaker and he is going to meet him face to face, and perhaps the Undertaker is afraid of him, but he certainly has nothing to fear from the Undertaker. Tonight: Kurt Angle will be in action for the first time since WrestleMania XX, and also the WWE Tag Team Titles will be on the line as Paul London and Billy Kidman defend against the Basham Brothers! Kurt Angle vs. Charlie Haas The music of Kurt Angle hit in the arena as he made his way to the ring with Luther Reigns and this will be Kurt's first match back since WrestleMania XX and he will be taking on his ex-Team Angle running buddy, Charlie Haas, who was accompanied by Miss Jackie. Kurt Angle and Charlie Haas locked up and Angle backed Haas to the corner and gave the clean break. They locked up again and Kurt locked in a waist lock and Haas reversed and then took Angle down to the mat and both exchanged some basics and chain wrestling, and they ended up in a standoff. They locked up yet again and Kurt locked in an arm lock but Haas took him down with a fireman's carry and locked in an arm bar, but Kurt escaped with a hip lock underhook and then charged at Haas but Haas gave him an arm drag and locked in the arm bar again. Kurt sent Haas to the ropes, but Haas gave him a shoulder block but Kurt came back with a side headlock takedown. Angle delivered a shoulder block but Haas came back with a series of deep arm drags and Kurt retreated to the outside of the ring as we went to commercial. Back on Smackdown, and Angle has Haas in a front face lock but Haas reversed into a hammerlock. Angle again got Haas in a headlock and then gave Haas an elbow to the face to knock him down and went to work on him in the corner with right hands. Haas fought back with a suplex and then went to work on Angle with some right hands of his own and then stomped Angle in the corner. Angle fought back with a belly to belly and went to work on him in the corner with kicks. Angle gave Haas a snap suplex and made the cover for two and then locked in a rear naked choke on Haas as Jackie cheered on her man. Haas fought out and Angle took him down with a high knee foe three two counts. Angle then got Haas in a full body scissors but Haas again fought out with right hands but Kurt blocked and went to work on Haas with right hands of his own. Angle charged at Haas in the corner but was met by an elbow and then Haas sent Angle over the top to the outside of the ring, and this will buy Haas some time. Angle hung Haas up on the top rope but Haas fought back with a standing dropkick. Angle charged at Haas in the corner, and Angle went right into the ring post and then Haas hit an exploder suplex for a near fall. Haas scored with a shoulder to the gut of Angle in the corner and then went up top and came off with an ax handle for two. Haas went for a German Suplex, but Angle rolled through and locked in the Ankle Lock but Haas broke free and rolled up Angle for two and a half. Angle then scored with the Angle Slam out of nowhere and took down his straps and locked in the Ankle Lock once again in the middle of the ring and Haas had no other option but to tap out! Winner - Kurt Angle WWE Tag Team Championship Match The Basham Brothers vs. Paul London and Billy Kidman (c) The music of Paul London and Billy Kidman hit in the arena as they made their way to the ring as the WWE Tag Team Champions and they are set to defend the gold against Danny and Doug, the Basham Brothers! Kidman and Danny Basham started out with a lock up and Danny worked on the arm of Kidman, but Kidman reversed into a side headlock. Danny went for a backdrop but Kidman escaped and rolled up Danny for two. London and Kidman then hit a double team move on Danny for two. London then locked in an arm bar on Danny and made the blind tag and London gave Danny a drop toe hold and Kidman came over the ropes with a leg drop. Kidman ended up on the apron and Doug pulled him off sending Kidman head first into the apron. Danny and Doug gave Kidman a double team gutbuster for two and then Danny tagged in Doug and Doug went to work on Kidman with some rights to the mid section. Doug Basham then locked in a bearhug on Kidman but Kidman fought out but Doug regained control and sent Kidman into the corner and tagged in his brother. Danny came in and went to work on Kidman and made the cover for two. Kidman fought back with a beautiful dropkick but Danny tagged in Doug and London got the tag from Kidman and went to work on both Basham's and gave Danny a dropsault and made the cover on Doug for two. Danny grabbed the leg of London from the outside and Doug went for a powebomb but Kidman came in and gave Doug a running enziguri and London came off the top with a spectacular twisting 450 splash to pick up the win! Winners, and still Tag Team Champions, Paul London and Billy Kidman Backstage: Spike Dudley was getting warmed up and Rey Mysterio joined him as they walked down the hallway, ready for their match against the Dudley Boyz. Rey Mysterio and Spike Dudley vs. The Dudley Boyz The music of Rey Mysterio hit in the arena as he made his way to the ring and he will be teaming with Cruiserweight Champion, Spike Dudley, who beat Rey for the gold last week, and they will be taking on Spike's half brothers, Bubba Ray and D-Von, the Dudley Boyz! Spike and Bubba locked up and Bubba backed Spike to the corner and perched him on the top rope. They locked up again and Spike took Bubba down with a headlock takedown. Spike made the blind tag and gave Bubba a dropkick and it looks like Spike has injured his knee. D-Von was tagged in and he went to work on Rey but Rey came back with a springboard moonsault for two. Spike made the blind tag as Rey took D-Von down and Spike came off the top with his feet to the sternum, but D-Von moved, and Spike said his knee had gone out, and he rolled to the outside. D-Von went to work on Rey and whipped him chest first into the buckle and then locked in a bear hug. Spike was trying to pull himself up onto the apron to make himself available for the tag. Rey escaped the bearhug but was taken down with a big clothesline for two. Spike had now made it to the apron as D-Von tagged in Bubba, who gave Rey a big slam and then delivered a series of elbow drops. Bubba made the tag to D-Von and D-Von went to the middle rope and jumped off but met the boot of Rey Mysterio. D-Von made the tag to Bubba and Rey gave him a drop toe hold to the buckle and then went to apron and came off with a seated senton and then gave Bubba a spinning heel kick, but D-Von broke the count. D-Von held Rey and Bubba went to hit him, but Rey moved and Bubba hit D-Von and then Rey rolled him up for two. Bubba went for a powerbomb, but Rey countered into a headscissors and went for the 619 but D-Von pulled Rey's leg on the outside and then the Dudley Boyz gave Rey the 3-D to pick up the win! Winners - The Dudley Boyz The aftermath: Spike crawled into the ring and looked angered as he hobbled around and went to check on Rey. Spike helped Rey up and then kicked him square in the balls and had a grin on his face! Spike embraced his brothers and the knee injury was a fake. Spike told his brothers to get the tables and then Spike went to work on Rey with rights. The Dudley Boyz set up a table in the ring and Spike went to get his Cruiserweight Title. The Dudley Boyz laid Rey on the table and then Spike came off the top and jumped onto the chest of Rey, feet first, sending him through the table! Spike then celebrated with his brothers as the referee's came down to check on Rey, and he was in bad shape. In the arena: The music of WWE Champion, John Bradshaw Layfield, was playing in the arena, as he was in the ring, and he is going to confront the Undertaker! JBL took off his jacket and hat and then got on the mic, and JBL said he used to be a Texan, but he is very glad he now lives in New York City. JBL said he is not here to shake hands, or kiss babies, because tonight this is all about business, serious business. People have asked him if he is afraid of the Undertaker, and he is not only not afraid of him, but he is calling him out right now, right here. The gong then sounded in the arena as JBL looked towards the entrance ramp and there was a mini Undertaker in the entrance way! The mini Undertaker made his way to the ring as JBL shouted insults at him, saying he did not scare him. Mini Undertaker took off his ring jacket and stared at JBL and then took off his hat. JBL got on the mic and said that he looked a lot bigger on television. JBL got on his knee's so he could look him in the eye. JBL ran off some short jokes and then said he is not going to wait until SummerSlam, and then picked the Mini Undertaker up in the Tombstone position and then a dong hit in the arena and the lights went out, and the Undertaker was behind JBL! JBL threw the midget down and JBL backed away. JBL attacked Undertaker with some right hands and then gave Taker a big boot and went for a chokeslam, but Orlando Jordan came running out and pulled JBL away from the Undertaker and helped him to the back. The Undertaker stared at JBL and signaled that the belt is his at SummerSlam and then got on his knee in the ring and the midget imitated the Undertaker, and the Undertaker grabbed him by the neck and gave him a huge chokeslam and continued to stare down JBL as the show went off the air!
