WWE Smackdown Results For 5/8/03
Mr. Americas segments are recapped from last weeks SD.

SD Intro.

Vince McMahon starts off the show and runs his mouth off about Mr. America/Hogan. He calls Stephanie out and berates her for a bit, then Hogan joins Vince via satellite from Tampa. They jaw back and forth for a bit. Hogan then informs everyone that Mr. America just might make an appearance tonight in Nova Scotia.

Vince is in the back just returning from the ring, when an assistant notifies him that Mr. America is in the building. (Someone sounding a lot like JR can be heard in the background as this segment ends.)

Eddie Guerrero (w/ Chavo Guerrero) vs. Matt Hardy (w/ Shannon Moore and Crash)

Back and forth action throughout the match. Not a lot of interference from eithers corners. Eddie attempts a Frog Splash, but Hardy gets out of the way. Hardy goes for a third (of the match) Side Effect and Eddie reverses it for the victory. After the bell, Team Angle steals their (Kurts) gold medals back.

Winner: Eddie Guerrero

Backstage the FBI and the Big Slow are chatting and see Mr. America walk by, but the audience only sees a silhouette because some stage hands have crossed between him and the camera.

Spankys rap and subsequent ass kicking by Cena were shown from last week.

Jamie Noble (w/ Nidia) vs. Brian "Spanky" Kendrick

Spanky gets the crowd going with some Cena sucks chants. Most of this match was grounded (Vince has gotten his way with methodically slow matches now). Spanky ends up on the outside and Nidia does her best Bend It Like Beckham impression, but she used too much toe. Spanky gets the victory after hitting the Slice Bread #2.

Winner: Brian Kendrick

Backstage, Cena is shown watching a monitor and is not too pleased with Spanky getting the victory. Segment concludes with Mr. America appearing with his back to the camera and Cena doing a double take.

The conclusion and subsequent aftermath of the Big Slow v. Rey Rey match at Backlash was shown.

Backstage, Josh Matthews catches up with Brock Lesnar. The most important information coming out of this segment was that Lesnar accepts Slows challenge, but adds one stipulation. In 10 days their match with be a Stretcher Match. (I thought pro wrestling would have learned from the Sid v. El Giante Stretcher Match at SuperBrawl that these do not work.)

Backstage, an excited Funaki runs into Vince explaining that he is on his way to see Mr. America in person. Vince tells Funaki that he is hallucinating and then orders him to pour him some coffee.

Commercial (over on ABC Kelly LeBrock is reminiscing about her role in Weird Science, what every teenage male in the mid-80s wanted to hear: what would you little maniacs like to do first?)

(Before we are back to the action, Heidi was just voted out of the Amazon on CBS. Survivor concludes this Sunday with 3 hours on CBS [I miss Elisabeth].) Mr. America makes his way to the ring accompanied by a deafening ovation from the fans. Vince cant believe it and goes to the ring. He says that he wont take Mr. Americas mask off, but he will make Steph do it. Steph comes to the ring, but doesnt act on her fathers request. Vince goes to take the mask off, but Hogan releases his (Vinces) grip and Vince nails Stephanie in the head as he falls back. Hogan then carries Steph to the back as Vince is fuming.

 Commercial

Backstage, Vince asks Stephanie what did Hogan do to you. Steph replied by saying Vince is the one who hurt her.

Sable makes her way to ringside.

Torrie Wilson vs. Dawn Marie

Okay this match lasted all of like 2 minutes with Mike Sparks (the Ref) being the luckiest man alive attempting to separate Torrie and Dawn (I was waiting for something to pop (out) the way Torrie was straining to get away from Sparks [I guess duct tape really works]). Torrie gets the victory after reversing a Firemans Carry into a roll up.

Winner: Torrie Wilson

After the match, Sable challenges Torrie to a Bikini Contest at Judgment Day. Sable want to know if Torrie really thinks that she can beat such a Sablicious opponent. Torrie then unzips her top to reveal a pink bra with a diamond clasp, plays with her badda bings for a minute and then the segment is over. (Good god folks, Im having Missy Hyatt vs. Madusa (Bikini Contest) flashbacks. All we need now is Paul E to be the judge and we really would have Bash at the Beach.)

Angle Persistence Pays promo.

Team Angle vs. Rikishi & Tajiri (non-title match)

Another new and improved WWE match. The best stuff was with Tajiri knocking the hell out of both members of Team Angle. Rikishis only moment of offense was cleaning house toward the end. Tajiri did hit the Tarantula. But he was also on the receiving end of a Benjamin kick that landed squarely in his face. Team Angle easily gets the victory after that.

After the match, the Los Guerreros exact some revenge on Team Angel by acquiring both the medals and portrait of Kurt Angle.

Winner(s): Team Angle

Benoit is warming up in the back.

John Cena vs. Rhyno

Spanky is along side Tazz and Cole for this match. Cena does a little ditty about Rhyno. Power match between the two, no high spots but sheer brute force between the two. Cena has the upperhand when he goes for the chain in the corner, but Spanky grabs it away from him allowing Rhyno to get the roll up victory. Cena attempts to go after Spanky, but Rhyno has other ideas. Rhyno attempts a GORE GORE GORE on the outside, but Cena moves and Rhyno damn near puts his knee through the steps on the outside. (We officially have the HHH Effect on SD, Cena has gone from the Main Event to feuding with Spanky [now Im not knocking Spanky here, but to go from Backlash to the lower mid-card on Judgment Day sure seems like a slap in the face].)

Winner: Rhyno

Backstage, Nunzio confronts Lesnar about needing to show more respect backstage. Lesnar laughs him off, but Nunzio then slaps him from behind. Lesnar chases after him and then the FBI locks him in a room. They also use a forklift to block the door, (but Palumbo remodels the backstage area by putting the forklift through the door). Big Slow and A Train thank the FBI for there work and Big Slow makes his way to the ring for what now is a one on one match.

 Commercial

Burn of the Night: Rey Rey being used as a baseball bat (at Backlash)

Big Show vs. Chris Benoit
Absolute squash match with Benoit on the receiving end throughout. After the match, Big Slow attempts to add Benoit to his silver slugger club, but Lesnar comes to the Wolverines aide. The Big Slow absolutely levels Lesnar. Lesnar is left in the ring following a chokeslam.

Winner: Big Show

End of show.
