Paul Heyman was shown in his office and he welcomed us to Smackdown! and said based on the events of this past Sunday night at No Way Out and based on Brock Lesnar's short temper, he suggested to Brock that he doesn't appear on Smackdown! tonight. This is all in the interest of public safety. Brock is so emotional right now and who could blame him? After all, as impossible as it may seem, the new WWE Champion is Eddie Guerrero. Now, while Eddie's celebration continues this evening, the question to ask is how long will that celebration last because tonight on Smackdown!, Eddie Guerrero will make his first ever defense of the WWE Title. His opponent? The new WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Chavo Guerrero. And with only Eddie's title on the line and the volatile situation of Eddie Guerrero's family involved, Paul has signed a special guest referee for this historic Championship Match.
The fireworks went off in the arena for the start of WWE Smackdown! from Fresno, California and we are just four days removed from No Way Out!
Kurt Angle's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring and he took the mic and asked the fans if they're ready to party? The fans cheered and Kurt said that's right because tonight is the night we celebrate the new WWE Champion, Eddie Guerrero! The fans in attendance very heavily chanted "Eddie, Eddie!" and Kurt said he wanted to be one of the first ones to come out here and say congratulations. Because Kurt knows what it's like first hand to achieve the impossible and prove the critics wrong. But to be honest, Kurt wasn't one of the critics. He always knew that Eddie Guerrero had what it took to kick Brock Lesnar's ass and win the WWE Championship! Which is why as the number one contender, it's going to be an honor and a privilege to face Eddie Guerrero for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania XX. And Kurt knows this sounds kind of corny but what the heck, three chants for Eddie Guerrero; hip hip hooray!
John Cena's music hit and he made his way out to the ring to interrupt Kurt Angle. John took the mic and made a mockery of Kurt Angle and how corny he sounded. John agreed with the fans, Kurt sucks. (The fans still chant "you suck" to Angle's theme." John said he's just saying that we have a new Champ in town and if you want to give Eddie Guerrero the props he's got coming to him then we're going to break it down west coast style. John Cena said this is what we're going to do. When he points to one side of the arena, they say Latino. When he points to the other side, they say Heat and together, they're going to blow the roof off this joint. The fans did just that and then John gave props to Kurt Angle for the triple threat. Kurt Angle is going to Wrestlemania and that sounds nice but from the sound of people here tonight, Wrestlemania sounds like Eddie Guerrero is going to kick Kurt Angle's ass!
Kurt responded by saying speaking of kicking asses, how about Angle kicks Cena's MC Hammer ass right now? Cena said that if he wants to go, they don't need to discuss this. The only reason he's MC Hammer is because he can't touch this. Cena and Angle got ready to go at it but Paul Heyman appeared on the video wall. Paul asked them if they're trying to go over his authority? Kurt Angle and John Cena don't make the matches on Paul Heyman's Smackdown!. Paul Heyman does! And Paul doesn't want to see Kurt Angle vs. John Cena tonight. Oh no, he wants to see Kurt Angle and John Cena as a tag team. Paul is sure the two of them will get along just fine because their opponents are two men who have been chomping at the bit for some competition tonight because they're not very happy with the events of their manager Shaniqua this past Sunday at No Way Out because tonight, it's John Cena and Kurt Angle vs. The Basham Brothers.
The Basham Brothers vs. Kurt Angle and John Cena
The Basham Brothers then made their way out to the ring without Shaniqua and this is a tag team match with Angle and Cena against the former Tag Team Champions, the Basham Brothers.
Kurt Angle and Danny Basham locked it up in the center of the ring and Kurt Angle took Danny down to the mat and put him in a waist lock and Danny crawled to the ropes to break it up.
During the match, Kurt Angle and John Cena got in a shoving contest and they were on the verge of exploding and the referee attempted to get in between them but they continued to argue as the show went to a commercial break.
During the commercial break, Doug Basham attacked John Cena and went right to work on his injured right knee.
The injured John Cena somehow kicked Danny Basham in the gut and then he planted him with a DDT. Cena remained down on the mat for a moment and then he hopped up and made the tag to Kurt Angle.
Kurt Angle went for the Angle Slam on Danny Basham but Danny countered it and shoved Kurt Angle into a clothesline by Doug Basham.
Kurt Angle eventually gave Danny Basham the Angle Slam and then he put the ankle lock on but Danny countered it by kicking Angle to the outside of the ring. John Cena made the tag to Kurt Angle as he flew out of the ring and John got in the ring and gave Danny Basham the FU and then the pin for the three count to get the win!
Winners - John Cena and Kurt Angle
Kurt Angle didn't seem too happy and he got in the ring and showed that by taking a look at Cena and then bowing out of the ring as John Cena remained in the ring to celebrate their win.
Backstage: Paul Heyman was shown talking on the phone and he told the person on the phone that he's the man on his show. Dawn Marie showed up with Rey Mysterio and Paul said he knows what Rey wants to say. He wants to say that the title meant everything to him and that he was ripped off at No Way Out. Rey said wrong. He's not here to complain about his match at No Way Out. He's here to ask for a rematch. If he gets that, there's nothing that will stop him from being Cruiserweight Champion again. Paul said that he'll be damned. He can really respect that. He wishes everyone in the locker room was as professional as Rey is and Paul is going to reward Rey for that. Tonight, if Chavo beats Eddie, not only will he be the Cruiserweight Champion but also the WWE Champion and next week, if Chavo is the new Champion, Rey will face him for both titles. Now that Rey has invested interest in Chavo winning the title tonight, he's going to have to ask him to take the night off. Deal? Rey agreed, saying all he wanted was a rematch.
Tony Chimel introduced the new WWE Heavyweight Champion Eddie Guerrero to the ring and Eddie Guerrero came down to the ring through the crowd and it was like a party in the arena as red white and green party paper was falling from the ceiling in the arena, representing the Latino community. Red, white and green balloons also fell from the ceiling as a part of Eddie Guerrero's celebration and he continued to make his way through the people to celebrate his title win from this past Sunday night on pay per view! Eddie got in the ring and posed on the ropes and some fireworks and sparklers went off for Eddie Guerrero and the fans were well behind Guerrero as he danced around in the ring as the new WWE Heavyweight Champion! Michael Cole stated that when we come back on Smackdown!, the celebration continues and we will hear from the new WWE Champion!
Eddie asked what's all the fuss about? Him? Usually he's a little bit more shy but as for tonight, he can stand in this ring and say he is the WWE Champion! Or should he say "We are the WWE Champion?" That's right, Viva La Raza! The fact of the matter is that for everybody that has supported him and everyone that has been behind him from the beginning, he says thank you! The fans erupted with a heavy "Eddie, Eddie!" chant and Eddie said and for everybody that didn't support him and wasn't with him, well frankly whatever! Eddie didn't go through all the trouble to steal this confetti and balloons for nothing, so let's get the party started!
Chavo Guerrero's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring with his father and Chavo is the new WWE Cruiserweight Champion as he defeated Rey Mysterio this past Sunday night at No Way Out. Eddie asked Chavo what he wants now? The fans started chanting "Chavo sucks, Chavo sucks" to get under Chavo's skin. Chavo told the fans that they suck, not him! The fans then heavily chanted "Eddie, Eddie!" and Chavo said what a shock. Chavo beats Rey Mysterio for the Cruiserweight Title at No Way Out. The biggest win of his career! One of the biggest moments of his life but once again, all of the attention is on Eddie Guerrero!
Where's Chavo's celebration? Where are his balloons, his fireworks, confetti? Eddie asked Chavo if he wants a balloon? He then tossed one at Chavo and Chavo said that he forgot, he's not Eddie, Eddie. But that's OK because Eddie has been lying and cheating his whole life. He's been stealing Chavo's spotlight his whole life! That's OK, Chavo wins his Championship and he gets nothing. Eddie wins his Championship and he gets a national holiday! Eddie can enjoy his little party here and if Chavo was Eddie, he would treasure it because after Chavo beats Eddie in this ring right here tonight, all of this is going to be over. See, Chavo spoiled Eddie's little celebration and tonight after their match and after he wins their match, he is going to take Eddie's WWE Title!
Eddie said no. See, the only thing Chavo is going to take is an ass kicking! Chavo said oh really? That's OK and that's Eddie's problem. He thinks he knows it all. Eddie knows it all but tonight, little Chavito knows a little something that Eddie doesn't know. Chavo just came from Paul Heyman's office and he let him in on a little secret. He told Chavo who is going to be their special referee tonight in their match. Oh, it's someone who's fair, unbiased and someone who's going to call this match right down the middle and that someone is Chavo Guerrero, Sr.!
United States Championship Match
Hardcore Holly vs. The Big Show (c)
The Big Show's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring for a one on one match against Hardcore Holly and surprisingly, the United States Title is on the line. For the record, this is The Big Show's second televised title defense, which is not a good thing considering how long he's held the title for.
Hardcore Holly attacked The Big Show as he was handing over his United States Title and Holly gave Big Show some hard right hands and kicks to the leg. Holly went off the ropes and gave The Big Show a clothesline and then another. When he went for the third, Big Show knocked Holly down with a clothesline of his own.
Hardcore Holly went to the top rope and came off with a leg drop and then he pinned Big Show but only got a two count. Holly went back to the ropes and he came off with a missile drop kick but Big Show swatted Holly aside like he was nothing.
The Big Show then grabbed Hardcore Holly by the throat and gave him the choke slam and then covered him for the three count to get the win.
Winner and still United States Champion, The Big Show
John Cena's music hit and he made his way out and cut a rap on The Big Show. John Cena challenged The Big Show to a one on one match with the United States Title on the line at Wrestlemania XX. Cena noted that Big Show never beat Cena one on one so turn him down because he'll go from world's biggest giant to world's biggest bitch. Big Show asked Cena if he's finished? That's the problem with people like him. He's got more guts than he does brains. Big Show is the most dominant United States Champion in the history and if he wants to challenge him for his United States Title at the biggest, grandest event ever at Madison Square Garden, he accepts! But understand one thing, it's Cena's funeral because Big Show is going to walk in as the United States Champion and whether Cena can see Big Show or not, he's going to walk out as the United States Champion. Cena took a shot at Big Show and ended the promo, saying he doesn't give a f***!
Josh Mathews was shown backstage and he said that he's just been informed that Brock Lesnar has just arrived at the arena and he noted that the 295 pound monster is loose somewhere in the arena!
Brock Lesnar's music hit in the arena and he slowly made his way out to the ring as the former WWE Heavyweight Champion. Brock, who sounded as if he was going to cry, said that he's not supposed to be here tonight. Paul Heyman said that he can have the night off but he just couldn't stay home. He has too much pride. That WWE Championship meant too much to him, he can't stay home. That Championship was his life, unlike Eddie Guerrero who doesn't appreciate the damn thing at all. Eddie's probably going to go out and pawn that thing off anyways. That's just how it is, Eddie doesn't deserve that title. That title was everything to Brock. Brock is an All American kind of guy. He was a great WWE Champion and he doesn't understand why the people can treat him like this. He can't believe it. Brock is a great U.S. Citizen and an outstanding guy. He's an NCAA Champion and in his heart, he believed the greatest WWE Champion in the history. Eddie Guerrero is a lying, cheating Champion. That's exactly how Eddie won Brock's title! Eddie Guerrero capitalized on Bill Goldberg. Eddie Guerrero stole Brock Lesnar's title! Eddie Guerrero might be the Champion but Brock guarantees that Eddie's day will come and Brock Lesnar will be the WWE Champion once again.
But Bill Goldberg, Brock has a score to settle with him. It was because of Bill that he lost his WWE Title. Because of Bill, Brock's life hasn't been the same. Because of Bill Goldberg, Brock can't sleep at night. Goldberg is going to feel the pain and Brock is going to break him in half! Brock then said that he knows Vince McMahon is listening; he doesn't care what Stone Cold Steve Austin, Paul Heyman or Eric Bischoff thinks. Brock begged Mr. McMahon from the bottom of his heart to please make the match at Wrestlemania XX between he and Bill Goldberg. Brock got down on his knees and begged as if to say he was begging to God. By the end of the promo, Brock was almost in tears with a crazed look on his face.
Chavo Guerrero and Chavo, Sr. were shown in the backstage area and Chavo said that tonight, he's going to beat Eddie and when he beats him, he's going to have an even bigger celebration than Eddie's next week in Kansas City. They love him there and Chavo, Sr. said they love him everywhere. Chavo said he's going to walk into Smackdown! not only the Cruiserweight Champion but the WWE Champion as well. Chavo, Sr. told Chavo to make him proud and Chavo said that he knows Eddie is his brother but please call this match down the middle. Chavo, Sr. told Chavo that he won't let him down and the two hugged with Chavo, Jr. thanking his father.
Paul Heyman was shown walking through the backstage area and apparently, Chavo Guerrero, Sr. was laid out by someone. Kurt Angle didn't seem too happy about this because he was one of the few that were laid out in the back and it could have been him again. Kurt told Paul that he knows that look, don't even think it. Eddie Guerrero didn't do this and think about this, it could be Paul next. EMTs worked on Chavo Guerrero, Sr. and he's supposed to be the special guest referee in the WWE Title Match that is next!
After a commercial break, Kurt Angle was walking through the backstage area and Paul Heyman caught up with him and said he's been thinking about what he said and he could be right. Kurt said he knows he is right. Paul explained that he has a title match next and he has no referee and the situation is volatile. Kurt told Paul that's not his problem and Paul told him that it is his problem because he's the referee in the match. Kurt said that he's not a referee and Paul told Kurt that he is tonight and he'll do just fine.

Chavo Guerrero vs. Eddie Guerrero (c)
Kurt Angle's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring as the special guest referee for this next match and Chavo was in the ring and he told Kurt to call it down the middle and Kurt seemed to agree with that. Eddie Guerrero then came out in his low rider and he looked extremely serious about this situation and rightfully so.
Eddie distracted Chavo with the title belt and then he charged through Chavo with a clothesline to knock him down to the mat. Eddie then stomped Chavo Guerrero down in the corner.
Chavo Guerrero hooked Eddie Guerrero in a suplex and then he held onto it and gave him two more and the crowd booed, knowing that's Eddie's trademark move. Chavo Guerrero then went to the top rope and came off with the frog splash but Eddie Guerrero got his knees into the mid section of Chavo Guerrero.
Eddie Guerrero gave Chavo Guerrero a back body drop to the outside of the ring and then he got ready to jump over the top rope on him but Chavo, Sr. came out, blaming Eddie for the attack. Chavo Guerrero then got in the ring and rolled Eddie up from behind but only got a two count. Eddie then gave Chavo Guerrero a series of vertical suplexes. Eddie started to go to the top rope but Chavo, Sr. got on the ring apron and Eddie knocked him down with a hard right hand.
Eddie Guerrero gave Chavo a back suplex and then he went to the top rope for the frog splash but Chavo, Sr. pulled his son out of the way. Rey Mysterio then came out to the ringside area and he took out Chavo, Sr. on the outside of the ring! WWE officials spilled from the locker room to separate the fight on the outside of the ring and they took Mysterio back to the locker room.
Eddie Guerrero perched Chavo Guerrero on the top rope and he gave him a top rope hurricanrana and then he pinned Chavo but only got a two count as Chavo was somehow able to kick out.
Chavo went to the top rope and Eddie slowed him down with some right hands and then he gave Chavo a super plex from the very top rope.
Eddie Guerrero later went to the top rope and came off with the frog splash and then he pinned Chavo Guerrero but referee Kurt Angle refused to count. Angle took a look at Eddie and smiled and then he laid him out with a hard right hand. Kurt Angle stomped away on Eddie Guerrero and the fans HEAVILY booed Kurt Angle out of the arena as he laid into Guerrero.
Winner - No contest
Kurt brought Eddie to the outside of the ring and beat on him until he bloodied him up and you could hear Angle tell Eddie that he's a stupid son of a bitch. Angle brought Eddie back into the ring and gave him the Angle Slam and Rey Mysterio stormed to the ring and went for a hurricanrana off the top rope but Kurt Angle countered it into a power bomb down to the mat. Kurt Angle then press slammed Rey Mysterio right to the arena floor and then he mounted Eddie Guerrero and continued to lay into him as the fans rallied together to try to awake Eddie Guerrero. The fans continued to heavily boo Kurt Angle and he got out of the ring and grabbed the WWE Championship belt and held it up as if it were his own. The commentators were extremely shocked and speechless as a result of this brutal attack on Eddie Guerrero by Kurt Angle. Eddie used Kurt Angle to climb to his feet and when he got to his feet, Kurt Angle laid him out with the WWE Championship belt and then he stood over him to show his dominance and the fans chanted "Angle sucks, Angle sucks!" and Kurt Angle finally got out of the ring and went towards the backstage area and stopped at the stage and looked back at the ring as the show went off the air.
