| WWE Smackdown Results - 2/5/04 - Holly vs Angle | ||||||||
| Paul Heyman opens things up in the ring, promising more opportunity tonight. Starting next Tag Team Titles The Basham Brothers vs. Scotty 2 Hotty & Rikishi Scotty attacks Danny to start and Rikishi legdrops him, but Shaniqua distracts Scotty and he gets nailed from the outside by Doug. Doug comes in and stomps away in the corner, and holds him in the heel corner. Double hotshot gets two for Danny. Elbowdrop gets two. They hold him in the corner and pound away, and Doug facelocks him to cut off a tag. Neckbreaker gets two. Backdrop suplex gets two for Danny. Doug cuts off another tag attempt, but he fights out and makes the hot tag to Rikishi. He clotheslines both of them and gets a double CHEEKS OF FIRE, and tosses Doug. Scotty goes for the Worm on Danny but gets tripped up by Shaniqua, so Rikishi takes care of her. Doug legdrops Rikishi off the top for two, however. Scotty necksnaps Doug into a samoan drop that finishes at 5:11 to give Rikishi & Scotty the tag titles. Elsewhere, Dawn Marie and Paul Heyman sneak up on John Cena in the locker room and inform him that due to the recent controversies on TV, hes making some changes to the content for the benefit of the children. EC-what? So anyway, no Cena tonight, just in case he decides to use bad language. US title match Big Show vs. Billy Gunn Show shoves Gunn down to start, but sadly doesnt concuss him and thus force his retirement. Gunn fires back witha punch. Just one punch. Show kicks him in the gut and tosses him down again, but Gunn slides under and gets a jawbreaker. Gunn dodges him and Show ends up on the floor, as we slow down the torrid pace and give the fans a chance to finish buying their nachos and find their seats again. Gunn slides out and tries to pull Show out, then necksnaps him instead and chops him back in the ring. Show punches him down again. And the pace is so hectic that were forced to take a commercial break to give everyone a chance to breathe. We return with Gunn on the floor, and he heads back in and gets headbutted. Show keeps pounding away and then puts him in a cobra clutch and tosses him down again. Show chokes away as Cole trips all over himself talking about what a great run Show is on and how he deserves the title shot at Wrestlemania. And to emphasize that effort, Show stands on Gunns chest. Show tries to guillotine Gunn under the ropes, but somehow MISSES and has to catapult Gunn instead. This is setting new standards of bad. Back to the cobra clutch as I begin counting the pixels on my monitor to fill the time. Id go back and count the number of times Cole said slow or methodical during this match, but then Id have to watch it again. Gunn makes the comeback but walks into the chokeslam, which he counters with a dropkick. Dumbasser gets two. Another try is blocked with a weak slam, and thats somehow enough to get the pin at 12:07. Elsewhere, Los Chavos bitch and moan about Rey Mysterio to Paul Heyman. So at the PPV, its Rey v. Chavo. Junior. And tonight, its Rey v. Chavo. Senior. In the ring, Michael brings out Eddie Guerrero, but Brock Lesnar quickly interrupts. Hes the best, hes gonna beat Eddies ass at the PPV, etc. Eddie points out that while Brock has had all those accomplishments early in his career, hes had to fight against stereotypes, height, drug problems, and self-doubt. But the voices in his head tell him that Brock is nothing more than another obstacle. And he chases him off and steals the title to boot. Kane-Undertaker footage from Monday on RAW. Jamie Noble vs. Kidman Noble starts out with the chops, but gets dropkicked for two. Kidman goes up, but gets shoved down and hurts his knee, so Noble goes after it. As he goes after the leg, we see one of the few pans into the crowd, as the entire arena is blacked out. Kidman comes back with an enzuigiri for two. Noble dropkicks the knee for two. Kidman rolls him up for two, but Noble rolls him into a half-crab as Nidia comes down to ringside. She steals his wallet and throws his money to the fans and Kidman powerbombs him while hes distracted and gets the pin at 2:58. And now, to make your life complete, Rey Mysterios new video. Im getting Master P flashbacks here. Its just generic rap stuff that sounds like Gerardo trying to make a comeback. I mean, geez, Konnans video sucked too, but at least it was a decent song. Yes, more from RAW as the brand extension seems to mean less and less, as we get the Austin-Goldberg conversation about Goldberg being at the PPV. And now more shocking news, as they announce that its Sable and Torrie in the next Playboy shoot, since everyone else turned them down. I do think their new strategy is pretty cagey, though instead of hiring women and then convincing them to pose nude, they hire women who WILL pose nude and then try to train them to wrestle. Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero Sr. Chavo attacks to start and chokes him out, and gives him a forearm in the corner. How many times are Cole & Tazz going to say Not for nothing in the same match? I think theyre setting a record here. Rey kicks back and gets a seated dropkick, and hits him with a buttdrop to set up the 619, but Chavo Jr gets him out of the way. Another try hits, and that finishes at 1:54. Hardcore Holly vs. Kurt Angle Angle takes him down into a chinlock off some mat-wrestling, but they go into a wristlock and trade off that. Angle takes him down, but gets hiptossed, and Angle comes back with his own for the stalemate. Holly elbows him into the corner and starts chopping, but Angle clotheslines him. He works over the back in the corner, but misses a charge and posts himself. And we take a break. Thats two matches with an ad break for no particular reason, which is kind of irritating. We return as Holly gets the DROPKICK OF DOOM for two. Holly stomps away in the corner, but runs into an elbow. He comes right back with a MAIN EVENT SLEEPER, however, and turns it into an armbar on the mat. Angle slugs out, but Holly works on the shoulder and goes for a powerbomb, which he then turns into a hotshot instead. They slug it out and Angle forearms him down and backdrops him out of the corner to set up the rolling germans. That gets two. Holly blocks the Angle Slam with a small package, and gets his hanging low-blow thing. Inverted DDT gets two. Wow, a new move from Holly, go fig. Holly goes up and manages to block the Pop-Up Superplex, and gets the flying clothesline for two. They reverse until Holly gets the Alabama Slam for two. Nobody buys that as a legitimate main event finisher. And speaking of which, Holly tries the full-nelson, but Angle tries to put him out of his misery with the Angle Slam and only gets two. Anklelock, but Holly kicks out. Another one and its over after some fighting from Holly, at 14:41 Paul Heyman starts to announce the number one contender match but stops when The Big Show comes out and says he should be the number one contender because he is the US Champion. John Cena comes out and says he should be the number one contender. Heyman announces a Triple Threat Match at the No Way Out PPV: Kurt Angle vs. John Cena vs. Big Show with the winner getting the title match at WrestleMania XX. Kurt Angle and Big Show get in each other's faces and Kurt hits the Angle Slam on the Big Show to end the show. Thanks to Scott Keith @ 411Mania.Com Credit: WrestlingAttitude.com |
