| WWE Smackdown Results - 1/8/04 - Los Guerreros Split! | ||||||||
| Smackdown! opened up with footage of Eddie Guerrero talking about the Royal Rumble, striking some jealousy into his nephew, Chavo. Apparently, Chavo feels that it should be he and Eddie going for the Tag Team Titles instead of Eddie Guerrero participating in the Royal Rumble match in an attempt to earn the right to go to Wrestlemania for the WWE Heavyweight Championship. At the end of the show last week, Kurt Angle stopped Los Guerreros from battling it out on live TV and when Kurt and Eddie went to the backstage area, Kurt Angle told Eddie Guerrero that he believed Chavo was right and that Eddie was the problem. The fireworks went off in the arena to kick off Smackdown! from Huntsville, Alabama as Michael Cole and Tazz kicked it off on commentary! Tonight, Hardcore Holly and The Big Show look to finish off what they started last week as they face each other in a Street Fight! Also, the WWE Tag Team Titles are on the line tonight! Kurt Angle's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring and we learned last week that Kurt Angle will be one of the thirty Superstars entered into the Royal Rumble match and the winner of the Royal Rumble match gets a shot at the title in the main event of Wrestlemania! Kurt Angle got in the ring and the fans heavily chanted "USA, USA!" and Angle told the fans that they rule. Last week was supposed to be a perfect beginning to a new year. He makes his big return and he vows that he would win the Royal Rumble for our troops. But something last week left a bitter taste in his mouth. He knows this is none of his business, but he'll be damned if he stands here and lets one of the greatest tag teams of all time self destruct. So Chavo Guerrero, come out to the ring right now so they can settle this thing between he and Eddie right here and right now. Chavo Guerrero's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring at the request of Kurt Angle. Kurt told Chavo that he knows he said last week that it was Eddie's fault, but don't you think you crossed the line just a little bit when you slapped Eddie? Kurt told Chavo to think about that and he asked him if he wants to do the right thing for his family and put this all behind him? The fans chanted "Eddie, Eddie!" and Kurt said to hold on. After the fans stopped chanting, Kurt said what he's saying is doesn't he think he owes Eddie a public apology? Chavo took the mic, saying Kurt wants him to apologize, to Eddie? What for? For trying to hold his family together? Does Kurt want him to apologize for loving his uncle Eddie? Because that's exactly what he did last week. He showed Eddie tough love. They don't call it tough love because it's easy. So Kurt asks him if he'll apologize to his uncle Eddie. Well no sir, he will not! In fact, if Eddie was in this ring right now, he'd slap him in the face even harder! Just like he's thinking about slapping Chavo. Kurt Angle stood in front of Chavo, showing no fear and he grabbed the microphone and said that he didn't ask Chavo to come out here for a fight. He asked him to come out here for an opportunity, an opportunity to do the right thing. Eddie Guerrero's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring to a tremendous ovation from the fans in attendance. Eddie got in the ring and went after Chavo and Chavo bailed out of the ring and Kurt Angle grabbed onto Eddie Guerrero to hold him back. Kurt told Eddie to listen to him. They can beat the hell out of each other all they want but Kurt has a few things to say, then he can do whatever he wants. Kurt told Eddie that that's his nephew. Look at Chavo, he's his uncle and they're supposed to love each other. They're tearing the family apart. Kurt told Chavo that if he's got the cajones, he wants Chavo to get in the ring right now and face his uncle eye to eye. Chavo got in the ring and Eddie got ready to fight him but Kurt told them to listen to what he has to say. Kurt told them that they're tearing their family apart, the greatest family in the history of this sport. Come on, Kurt knows Eddie doesn't want this and he knows Chavo doesn't want this either. He's going to ask them one question, just one question. He wants to know right here and right now who's going to be the better man. That's right, the better man and extend their hand out right now and make amends? Chavo extended his hand to Eddie and Eddie just looked at it and took a step back. Kurt tried to convince Eddie to shake his hand and the fans chanted "Eddie, Eddie!" Kurt told Eddie to do the right thing because this is his nephew. Eddie looked at Chavo with a look of anger and Kurt told Eddie that he wants him to look deep inside himself and look at Chavo and think about this. Who was the one person when Eddie was down and out and his world turned upside down, who was the one person that cared enough to be there for him? Eddie told Kurt not to go there but Kurt said that he has to. That's family. Kurt wanted Eddie to reach inside himself and do the right thing. This is his family and Kurt told him not to break the family tradition. Kurt continued to tell Eddie to do the right thing while Chavo held his hand out and Eddie shook it and then Kurt Angle got in between them and held both their hands u pin the air, staying between them incase tempers started flaring. Kurt Angle let go and stepped back and Eddie and Chavo took a few looks at each other and then Eddie left the ring with Chavo remaining in the ring. Backstage: Josh Matthews was shown standing by with The Big Show and tonight, he meets Hardcore Holly in a one on one Street Fight. Josh asked Big Show why he would ask for the match tonight to be a Street Fight? Big Show said that Josh doesn't get it. He holds the mic but he still doesn't get it. Last week, Holly split Big Show's head opened with this very chair. He made him bleed. That's why Big Show went to Paul Heyman and asked him to please make his match with Hardcore Holly a Street Fight. That way, he can use this chair and anything he wants to because tonight, The Big Show is taking Hardcore Holly out. Mini Royal Rumble Match Chris Benoit vs. Johnny Stamboli vs. Chuck Palumbo vs. Nunzio Chris Benoit's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring and he's set for a singles contest. Paul Heyman's music hit and Chris Benoit looked confused as if Heyman were his opponent. Paul said he supposes Benoit is very proud of himself. Last week, he truly pulled one over on Heyman and he got himself into the Royal Rumble. (Heyman's finger looked to be broken.) Paul said but Benoit got himself into the Royal Rumble as the number one entrant. So tonight, he decided they're going to have a mini Royal Rumble and three of his associates have volunteered for this and they are the FBI and their object is to throw Benoit over the top rope to send him crashing down to the floor. Here's how it works. We start with Chris Benoit in the ring with one member of the FBI and if he survives that two minute period, then the buzzer rings and down to the ring comes the second member of the FBI and if he survives that two minute period and if the buzzer rings, just like at the Royal Rumble and down comes the third and final member of the FBI. To be honest, there is a difference between tonight and the Rumble because at the Rumble, it's every man for himself but tonight on Paul Heyman's Smackdown!, it's every man for Chris Benoit! Johnny Stamboli came out to the ring and Chris Benoit attacked him as he got in the ring and gave him some right hands and then a snap suplex as the counter was shown on the TV, counting down to the next entrant into the Mini-Royal Rumble Match! Chris Benoit pulled Johnny Stamboli down to the mat by the legs and put him in the sharpshooter and Johnny tapped out but submissions don't matter here. The buzzer went off and Chuck Palumbo stormed to the ring and went right at it with Benoit. Chris Benoit put Chuck Palumbo in the Crippler Crossface and held onto it for an extended period of time while Palumbo tapped out and then Nunzio came out to the ring after the buzzer went off. Stamboli was eliminated from the match by Chris Benoit. Nunzio got in the ring and Chris Benoit scared him off and then knocked him into the corner. Palumbo and Nunzio then double teamed Chris Benoit. Benoit went to throw Chuck Palumbo out of the ring but Nunzio stopped him and then Chris Benoit dumped Nunzio out of the ring, leaving him in the ring alone with Chuck Palumbo. Chuck Palumbo gave Chris Benoit a Samoan drop and then he went for the jungle kick but Benoit avoided it and then dumped Chuck Palumbo out of the ring to win the match! Winner - Chris Benoit Chris Benoit celebrated his win as Paul Heyman was noticeably upset from the Smackdown! staging area. Tag Team Championship Match Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty vs. The Basham Brothers (c) Rikishi's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring along with Scotty 2 Hotty and they are up against the Basham Brothers in a tag team match and Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty have a huge opportunity tonight as they face the Bashams for the Tag Team Titles! Doug and Danny came through the crowd and attacked Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty from behind and dominated them with kicks and stomps down on the mat and in the corner. Doug and Danny Basham knocked Rikishi down to the mat with the ball and gag and then they grabbed the Tag Team Titles as if they just retained the titles. Danny laid Scotty out with the Tag Team Title belt and then Doug did the same with the other belt on Rikishi. Doug and Danny stood tall in the ring, displaying dominance over Scotty and Rikishi and then Kurt Angle's music hit in the arena and he made his way out. Winners - No contest Kurt said to hold on a second. He guesses hell has officially frozen over because he just left Paul Heyman's office and they have come up with an agreement. When you advertise a Tag Team Title Match, you should actually have one. And since they made sure Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty were out of the picture, Kurt and Heyman have come up with a suitable replacement. Up next will be the Basham Brothers with the WWE Tag Team Championship on the line against their opponents, Los Guerreros! The Bashams and Shaniqua remained in the ring throughout the commercial break and they were none too pleased about Angle's announcement. The music of Los Guerreros then hit in the arena and they made their way out to the ring in the low rider and the Tag Team Titles are on the line in this match! Tag Team Championship Match Los Guerreros vs. the Basham Brothers (c) Eddie Guerrero started it off in the ring against Danny Basham and the two locked it up in the center of the ring and Danny put Eddie in a side headlock and Eddie whipped Danny off the ropes but Danny came back with a hard shoulder block to knock Guerrero down to the mat. Eddie Guerrero choked Doug Basham with the tag rope and then he "tagged" in Chavo Guerrero behind the referee's back. As the referee checked to see if Eddie made the tag (which he didn't) Chavo choked Doug with the tag rope much like Eddie did a few moments earlier. Eddie Guerrero went for the frog splash on Doug Basham but Danny rolled his brother out of the ring to make the save. Eddie and Chavo then dragged Doug back into the ring and went back on the attack on Doug. During the match, the fans chanted "Chavo, Chavo" as he was on the ring apron, attempting to pump Eddie up for a tag. Behind the referee's back, Shaniqua choked Eddie Guerrero over the ropes and then Danny Basham rolled Eddie up for a two count. The Bashams went for the ball and gag on Chavo but Eddie pulled Danny out of the ring and then Eddie got in the ring and he and Chavo knocked Doug out of the ring with a double team. Eddie and Chavo then jumped over the top rope on opposite sides of the ring on Doug and Danny to knock them down to the mat. Chavo went for a sunset flip on Chavo Guerrero but Doug sat down and leaned forward and Shaniqua grabbed Doug's hands to enable him to pin Chavo for the three count.. Winners and still Tag Team Champions, the Basham Brothers The Basham Brothers beat up on Eddie and Chavo and as the Bashams dominated Eddie in the ring, Chavo went to grab a chair on the outside of the ring but decided against it and sat down and watched the Bashams dominate his uncle Eddie. Doug and Danny both grabbed a leg of Eddie Guerrero, putting him in a double half crab as Chavo remained on the outside of the ring and looked on. The fans started chanting "Chavo sucks" as Eddie Guerrero screamed in pain. Shaniqua then handed the Tag Team Titles to the Basham Brothers and the three left the ring together as Chavo remained in the chair at ringside. After the Bashams were gone, Chavo stood up and you could hear the fans booing Chavo Guerrero and chanting "Eddie, Eddie!" Chavo finally got in the ring and Eddie used the ropes in an attempt to get to his feet but he fell right back down to the mat as Chavo hovered over his uncle. Eddie used Chavo to get to his feet and Chavo laid into Eddie Guerrero with a devastating right hand to a chorus of boos. Chavo then mounted Eddie and gave him a number of hard right hands and the fans continued to boo him out of the arena as Eddie Guerrero was noticeably busted opened at the hands of his nephew. With Eddie busted opened, Chavo mounted Eddie again and slammed his head into the mat and then he gave him another hard right hand and then looked at the blood of his uncle on his hands. Chavo continued to look at the blood on his hands and then he finally walked half way out of the ring and the fans were all over Chavo for his actions. Chavo got back in the ring and gave Eddie a stiff kick right to the head and then he decided that it was finally time to leave the ring. Chavo then walked past the low rider and then decided to turn around and get in it and leave the arena as WWE officials came out to the ring and attended to Eddie Guerrero. During the Break, Chavo took the low rider and left the arena with it, a pissed off man. A-Train vs. John Cena A-Train's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring for a one on one contest against John Cena! John Cena brought a mic out to the ring with him and he worked the mic on the way to the ring and the fans were well behind John Cena. Cena and A-Train locked it up and A-Train shoved Cena down to the mat and Cena quickly got up and the two locked it up and A-Train backed Cena into the corner and went for a clubbing blow but Cena ducked it and gave A-Train some right hands. Early in the match, John Cena went for the FU on A-Train but A-Train was able to get out of it. John Cena later planted A-Train with the FU and then pinned him for the three count to pick up the win over A-Train. Winner - John Cena Eddie Guerrero was shown being worked on backstage and he was cut up pretty bad. Kurt Angle showed up and he told Eddie that he doesn't know what to say but he somehow feels responsible for this. Kurt said he can't believe what Chavo did and he can't believe he misjudged him like that. He should have never stuck his nose in his family's business. Eddie was VERY shaken up and Kurt said truth be told, he should have never stopped him from tearing Chavo apart in the first place. What he's trying to say is he's sorry. Eddie was literally shaking and in tears and Kurt Angle left Eddie Guerrero alone with the trainers. Non Title Match Akio vs. Rey Mysterio (c) Rey Mysterio made his way to the ring as the Cruiserweight Champion and earlier today, Michael Cole had the chance to talk to Rey Mysterio and he told Cole that it meant to much to him to recapture the Gold. Akio stormed to the ring and went right at it with rey Mysterio in some fast Cruiserweight action to start it off! Rey Mysterio got Akio and Sakoda against the ropes and he hit them both with a double 619 and then he hit Akio with the West Coast Pop to pick up the win in a fast paced Cruiserweight match! Winner, the Cruiserweight Champion, Rey Mysterio Sakoda got in the ring and he went after Rey Mysterio but Rey bailed out of the ring and the referee held his arm up in the air, declaring him the winner. A promo was shown for Billy Gunn and he was thanking the fans for the response he got on his video highlight package. Billy has had a hell of a career with many great moments and that's why he is going to bring to us his top three moments that made him the WWE Superstar he is. At number three on the countdown, Billy and Bart Gunn battle the 123 Kid and Sparky Plug for the WWF Tag Team Championship in 1995! What an unbelievable feeling it was when he won the Tag Team Titles for the first time but hold on, there's next week when he brings us number two in the Billy Gunn Countdown! Backstage: Josh Matthews was shown with Hardcore Holly and he asked him about tonight's match. Holly said if it's a street fight he wants, then it's a street fight he's going to get. He may be the United States Champion but he's not that smart because Josh knows as well as Holly does that you don't play somebody else's game and a street fight is right up Holly's ally. And you don't play his game in his own backyard of Huntsville. So tonight, Big Show is going to find out what an Alabama ass whipping is all about. Backstage: Nidia and a security guard were shown and the security guard gave her the phone to call Noble. Nidia said she's worried about Noble because he's been gone for a long time and his match is coming soon. Paul Heyman showed up and send the guard on his way. Paul told Nidia that he's not doing too good. Jamie's in a match against Tajiri next and he can't find him anywhere. Nidia said that he'll be right in, she just talked to him. Paul said business is business and if Jamie doesn't show up in time, he has to name a suitable replacement. Nidia promised that he'd be in, just give him a little more time. Paul said that the match is next and the suitable replacement in the match against Tajiri will be Nidia! Heyman left and Nidia looked shocked. Number One Contendership Match Tajiri vs. Nidia Tajiri's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring for a number one Contendership match for the Cruiserweight Championship to determine who will face Rey Mysterio at the Royal Rumble and he's scheduled to face Jamie Noble but if he doesn't arrive to the building in time, Nidia will be forced into this match. Jamie Noble's music hit and no one came out and then Paul Heyman lead Nidia out to the ring and Tajiri didn't look too happy to see his opponent for the night. Paul told Nidia that if she doesn't go through with this, she's fired. Paul then took Nidia's cane away from her , telling her no weapons in his matches! Tajiri then stalked Nidia and pulled her down to the mat and then she crawled around the ring and Tajiri put Nidia in a waist lock into a take down. Tajiri grabbed Nidia and gave her a Russian leg sweep and then a pin for the three count to pick up the easy win. Winner - Tajiri Tajiri set up to kick Nidia in the head but Rey Mysterio hit the ring to stop him from doing so. Tajiri ran to the back and Rey Mysterio helped Nidia up and he tried to explain to her that everything is OK. Rey Mysterio and referee Mike Sparks helped Nidia out of the ring and Jamie Noble finally came out and pushed Rey Mysterio aside and attended to Nidia, apologizing. Noble then knocked Rey Mysterio down on his ass and left with Nidia. Non Title -Street Fight Match- Hardcore Holly vs. The Big Show (c) Brock Lesnar's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring as the WWE Heavyweight Champion and this match is supposed to be The Big Show against Hardcore Holly in a Street Fight! Brock Lesnar sat down with Cole and Tazz, saying that he wanted a front row seat for this match and anything goes in this match but the pinfall must take place inside the ring. Hardcore Holly came out to the ring and whaled away on The Big Show with a number of right hands and kicks, avoiding a chair shot by Big Show. As the match was going on, Hardcore Holly went over to Brock Lesnar and jumped on him and gave him a number of right hands until The Big Show pulled Holly off of Brock, driving him into the steel post. Hardcore Holly nailed The Big Show with a trash can two times and then he hit him a third time to knock him down to the mat. Holly then pinned Big Show but only got a two count. Big Show grabbed Holly by the throat and Holly sprayed something into Big Show's eyes to break it up and then Holly nailed Big Show in the back two times with a steel chair and then he put the steel chair on Big Show's head and wrapped it around his neck and choked him with it. Big Show tapped out and Hardcore Holly picked up the win by submission! Winner - Hardcore Holly Holly remained in the ring and Brock stood up and held his belt up to taunt Holly and Holly went after Brock but Brock bailed out through the crowd. Hardcore Holly then picked up the steel chair and held it high over his head as the fans cheered Holly with the show going off the air. Credit: WrestlingAttitude.com |
