| WWE RAW Results For July 7, 2003 - Booker T Win IC Title | ||||||||
| Steve Austin headed to the ring to kick off Raw this week. Austin talked about missing last weeks show and said some Mexican TV dinners were to blame. Austin added that Eric Bischoff wasn't there and then pointed out that there was a referee in the ring. Austin then announced an Intercontinental title match with Christian taking on Booker T. Christian made his way out and told the referee to start counting him out. Austin said the title would change hands on a DQ or a countout. Christian still refused to take part in the match, saying the match couldn't start if he didn't get in the ring, so Austin took it upon himself to throw Christian into the ring. Booker T then hit the ring and the match was soon on. Booker T defeated Christian to become the new Intercontinental Champion in 13:18. The location of Raw was the same building in which the infamous Montreal screwjob which happened with Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels back in 1997. Lawler threw out the first "screwjob" reference of the night, saying Christian was getting screwed by having to defend his title in this type of match. Midway through the match, Booker pinned Christain who had his foot on the ropes but the ref didn't see it until after he had counted to three. The ref quickly went to the outside and told Lilian Garcia that he was reversing his decision and ordering the match to continue. Raw then took its first commercial break and when we came back, Booker was in control. Booker had a few nearfalls before Christian came into the ring with the title belt but as JR and Lawler pointed out, he would lose the title on a disqualification. Finally, Booker hit the ax kick and followed up with a pin for the win. Backstage, Mark Jindrak thanked Austin for giving him a match tonight with Chris Jericho. Austin and Jindrak watched Booker celebrating his title win on a backstage monitor when referee Nick Patrick interrupted and said something needed Austin's attention. After the break, Austin headed into a locker room where Bubba Ray and Spike Dudley were huddled around a bloodied and unconscious Tommy Dreamer. EMT's came in as Austin tried to get Bubba and Spike to back off so the EMT's could do their job. JR and Lawler then talked about the Montreal screwjob and said later in the show, Chris Jericho would be speaking to Shawn Michaels about the whole ordeal on the Highlight Reel. Rodney Mack, Theodore Long and Rosey then made their way out with Long on the mic as they made their way into the ring. Long mentioned how "the man" held down Jazz last week when she lost her Women's title when she wasn't even eliminated from the battle royale. Long then mentioned Christopher Nowinski being held down by the man because of a concussion. Long turned his attention to Rosey (apparently the newest member of Long's entourage. Long tried to give Rosey some tips when they were interrupted by Rosey's opponent, The Hurricane. Rosey (with Rodney Mack & Theodore Long) defeated The Hurricane in 1:42. Hurricane had a quick start but after some slight interference from Mack, Rosey nailed a Samoan drop for the win. Backstage, Bubba Ray got in the faces of Randy Orton and Ric Flair, accusing them of beating up Tommy Dreamer. Austin entered the picture and Bubba told him he wanted something done about this. Austin granted him a tag match against Orton and Flair so long as Bubba could find a partner. Miss Jackie then interrupted and said she needed Austin's help because something had happened to Rico. Footage captured during the break showed a beaten down Rico who told Austin he thought Kane attacked him. Val Venis & Gail Kim defeated Victoria & Steven Richards in a mixed tag match in 3:42. Decent match which showed off some more of Kim's skills. In the end, Kim countered Victoria's powerbomb attempt into a huricanrana for the win. Backstage, Trish Stratus was talking with Ivory when Test interrupted and tried to hit on Trish. Trish mentioned she didn't like the way Test treated women which prompted him to grab her arm. Kevin Nash then entered the picture and told Test to pick on someone his own size and said he'd meet him in the ring later. After the break, Chris Jericho came out for the Highlight Reel. The crowd popped pretty good for Jericho, who said that they recognize Canada's greatest athlete. Jericho said when Shawn Michaels screwed Bret Hart out of the WWE title, he committed a travesty against every Canadian as well. Jericho then called out Michaels, saying he was coming out to issue an apology. Shawn Michaels entered the ring to a chorus of boo's from the crowd. Michaels said he has publicly apologized to Hart, but has never apologized to the Montreal fans. Michaels apologized, but not for the screwjob on Bret, but for the fact that Montreal can't seem to get over what happened. Michaels said nobody no longer cares what happened back there in 1997, only Montreal. This generated a lot of heat for Michaels and eventually it started a "You screwed Bret!" chant, to which Michaels said, "Your point is?" Michaels said he had a job to do and he did it. Jericho shot back by saying "we" (Canadians) would never forget what he did to Bret. Michaels asked Jericho who he thought he was, Mr. Canada, or something? He then pointed out that Jericho lives in the US and challenged him to a match right there in Montreal. Jericho said wrestling Michaels in Montreal would be a waste of his time because the economy sucks. Jericho then offered Michaels a match in two weeks when Raw would be coming from Hollywood. Backstage, Austin told Jonathan Coachman he would find who was responsible for the attacks on Dreamer and Rico. Austin then stepped into his office to find Kane sitting in his chair. Doing the back to the camera but ever so sinister turn-around, Kane told Austin they needed to talk. After the break, Austin apparently had heard everything Kane had to say and said he couldn't believe Kane was thinking about quitting. Austin asked him why, because people would make fun of him? Austin bet him that the fans would cheer him for what he did to Bischoff last week. Austin told Kane (who, as we found out, attacked Dreamer and Rico because he thought they were making fun of him) he needed him in the ring destroying people. Austin invited Kane to come out to the ring with him later or told him he could stay in the back and quit. Kane stood up and walked away without saying anything. Test defeated Kevin Nash in 1:47. Nash dominated most of the match with his usual moves until Test rebounded and then took the padding off the turnbuckle. This brought out Trish Stratus who tried to show the ref what Test was up to but Test grabbed her and shoved her into Nash. This distracted Nash long enough for Test to hit a big boot and grab the win. After the match, Trish tried to check on Nash but Test grabbed her and threw her down to the floor and then threw her into the security rail. Backstage, Terri had a word with the new Intercontinental champion, Booker T, who invited the whole city to come out and celebrate with him on the town. Chris Jericho defeated Mark Jindrak in 3:45. Kind of a slow going match with only a few decent spots here and there. The finish looked a little botched as Jericho hit Jindrak with lowblow which looked way off. This led to the Walls of Jericho for the win. Molly Holly defeated Trish Stratus in 3:59. Ross and Lawler reminded everyone of Trish being attacked earlier by Test and said she might not be at 100% for this match. The winner of the match earned a title shot against Gail Kim next week as well. Molly dominated nearly all of the match and won it with a reverse Camel Clutch-type submission hold. Backstage, Kane told Austin he'd join him out in the ring. Bubba Ray Dudley & Rob Van Dam defeated Randy Orton & Ric Flair in 5:39. RVD started off in control but eventually he ended up getting beat down, only to get the hot tag to Bubba who came in and cleaned house. Flair went up top (which, as we all know, never works) and got thrown off as RVD headed up top for the Fivestar Frog Splash. Orton grabbed RVD's leg but Spike Dudley ran down and knocked down Orton which allowed RVD to hit the Fivestar for the win. Backstage, Kane shoved down a cameraman on his way to the ring. After the break, Austin made his way out and took little time in calling out Kane who came out to a good reaction. Austin told Kane the fans didn't care about how he looked, they cared about what he did in the ring. A "Kane" chant was even heard momentarily. Austin then rolled footage from last week of Kane chokeslamming Eric Bischoff off the stage. Austin had it rolled again and then claimed that it was funny. Kane grabbed the mic and said he thought Austin wasn't going to make fun of him. Austin said he wasn't, he said he thought what he did to Bischoff was funny. Kane got pissed and attacked Austin and backed him into a corner but Austin came back with a barrage of right hands and knocked Kane to the outside. Austin threw Kane into the ringpost and then plastered him with a chair before tossing him back in the ring. In the ring, Austin delivered a Stunner but after a moment, Kane sat up from it and chokeslammed Austin to end the show. Credit: Dustin Tingue of LordsOfPain.net |
