| WWE RAW Results - 3/29/04 - Benjamin vs Triple H | ||||||||
| WWE RAW REPORT Cincinnati, Ohio Commentators: Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler RAW Report RAW started off with footage from last Monday night's draft lottery on WWE RAW and as a part of that lottery, Triple H was drafted to WWE Smackdown!. As soon as that happened, the entire locker room sang 'goodbye' to Triple H but this past Thursday night on Smackdown!, Kurt Angle, the new General Manager traded Triple H back to RAW for the Dudley Boyz and Booker T. With Triple H's return to RAW, the question remains what will happen? What will his reaction be to the RAW locker room's send off last week? The fireworks went off in the arena for the start of WWE RAW and Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler kicked it off on commentary and tonight, the World's Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit will join forces with Shawn Michaels to face Batista and Ric Flair for the Tag Team Titles! Plus, Trish Stratus will be the guest in tonight's Highlight Reel! Evolution's music hit in the arena and Ric Flair, Randy Orton and Batista all made their way out to the ring, all carrying WWE gold. As Evolution made their way out to the ring, the commentators questioned as to where Triple H is? Ric Flair took the mic and said that he's going to make something clear to everyone tonight. He and Batista are thrilled to have an opportunity to defend their World Titles against the Heartbreak Kid and the World's Heavyweight Champion, Chris Benoit! They're also thrilled to know that Triple H is back in the RAW locker room. That's right, the franchise is back and Ric Flair will be the first to tell everyone that he was real disappointed in the RAW locker room last week when he got drafted to Smackdown!. But the Game will be here later on tonight and he'll deal with that locker room the way he sees fit. Ric went on to say that he's tired of the lack of respect for Randy Orton. The fans booed and Flair took his jacket off and said it once again. The fans booed again and Ric Flair said that Randy Orton beat your God, Mick Foley, the Hardcore Legend at Wrestlemania XX. And Evolution is currently demanding more respect from the fans starting now. And the Champ has something to say. As bad as his throat is, he is going to talk to you all tonight. Randy Orton took the mic and his voice was rough as he had a tonsillectomy last week. Randy said that you're going to have to bare with him. His throat is a little screwed up because he had his tonsils out last week so it's going to be hard to talk. But the fact that he's out here in this ring right now just proves that he has the guts unlike Mick Foley. It just proves that Mick is what Randy has been calling him all along; a coward! Mick Foley's music hit in the arena and he made his way out onto the stage! The fans erupted for Foley and Foley asked if he just heard right? Randy Orton is feeling disrespected by the fans? Is he feeling a little bit unloved maybe? He doesn't know what the fans are thinking because as far as Mick is concerned, Randy proved himself at Wrestlemania. As far as Mick Foley is concerned, Randy Orton proved without a shadow of a doubt that in a three on two situation, he's capable of beating a Hollywood actor and a guy who writes children's books. Foley thinks he understands a little bit about what the fans are thinking and they're thinking that if Evolution wasn't by Randy's side, things would have turned out a bit differently. Foley thinks that the fans are thinking had it been a one on one match at Wrestlemania that Mick Foley would have kicked Randy Orton's little ass all over Madison Square Garden. Flair told Mick that Orton gave him an opportunity to wrestle at Backlash but Foley didn't respond. Foley said to ensure that it's one on one at Backlash, how about having Evolution banned from ringside? Flair said no problem and Foley said that in addition to that, how about we put Randy Orton's Intercontinental Title up for grabs? Flair and Orton laughed and Flair said once again, they don't see a problem. Mick said this is too good to be true. So what he's saying is that it's going to be Foley/Orton for the IC title at Backlash? Foley said no. You see, Flair wants Mick so bad then there's one other thing he needs banned at that match and that would be the rulebook. If Randy Orton wants a piece of Foley so bad, then they do it on Foley's terms. Anything goes and falls count anywhere. You can call it a street fight or you can call it hardcore but rest assured, Randy Orton accepts and he gets hurt. Ric Flair said that they have no problem with Mick Foley on any terms. Mick told Flair that he doesn't want to hear it from him; he wants to hear it from Randy Orton. Mick asked Randy if he'll become a hardcore legend at Backlash or will he always be a little douche bag wimp? Yes or no, what's it going to be? Randy took the mic and agreed to the match and Mick told Randy that he has three weeks until Backlash and he shows up 3 times tougher than he thought about being or rest assured Mick Foley will tear him apart. Have a nice day! Sylvan Grenier, Rob Conway and Garrison Cade were shown in the backstage area and they were talking to Tajiri and they were putting him through an initiation. Cade told Tajiri that no matter who walks through that door, he needs to spray them in the face with the green mist. Someone knocked on the door and it turned out to be The Coach and he asked Cade and La Resistance what's going on and then he turned to Tajiri and said what's up and Tajiri sprayed the green mist into the face of The Coach. Cade, Conway and Sylvan Grenier then laughed, telling Tajiri that he shouldn't have done that because that's Eric Bischoff's boy and he's in big trouble now! Nidia vs. Molly Holly Nidia's music hit in the arena and she made her way out to the ring and this is her first appearance on RAW since being drafted last week in the draft lottery and this is a one on one match up with Nidia wrestling against the former Women's Champion, Molly Holly, who once again came out to the ring with a wig on, this time a darker one as compared to the blonde one she wore a couple weeks ago. Molly and Nidia locked it up in the center of the ring and Molly grabbed Nidia by the arm and took her down to the mat with an arm drag to officially start it off. Nidia hopped to the ring apron and Molly gave her a shoulder block to the stomach and then she slammed her into the steel ring post, shoulder first. Nidia rolled Molly Holly up with a school boy pin but she only got a two count. After the pin, Nidia knocked Molly down to the mat with a short clothesline and then Nidia knocked Molly down with another clothesline. Nidia gave Molly a slingshot into the turnbuckle and then a northern lights suplex pin for a two count. Nidia went for a bulldog on Molly Holly but Nidia pulled Molly's hair off and then as Molly looked embarrassed and complained about what happened, Nidia rolled Molly up from behind to get the three count! Winner - Nidia Eric Bischoff and Johnny Spade were shown backstage and Bischoff was complaining about the footage of Edge spearing Bischoff being played. Eric said that sometimes people forget who is in charge. Eric knows Edge wanted to make a big impression on RAW but he's got news for Edge and everyone else. It's about time everyone starts respecting Eric Bischoff. Eric asked Johnny if he's going to bring Edge to him like he does everybody else? Johnny said that he would, but he hasn't seen him all night. Eric said that Edge is going to learn who's in charge and what it's like to get manhandled because Edge's first match back at Backlash is going to be against the 7 foot monster, Kane! The music of the Hurricane hit in the arena and he made his way out and Triple H stormed out and nailed the Hurricane from behind and then he slammed him into the RAW set. An angered Triple H then walked out to the ring and he took the mic and said that is a message to everybody in that RAW locker room. Triple H saw everyone back there laughing and cheering when they thought that he was traded to Smackdown! but who's laughing now? Triple H. You know why? Because he knows for a fact that Eric Bischoff would have traded any one of them to get Triple H back. As a matter a fact, Eric Bischoff traded three of them to get Triple H back and that's because Eric Bischoff is a smart businessman. He knows that if he wants to have the number one show on TV, he has to have the number one guy. He has to have the best if he wants to be the best. He has to have the franchise! He has to have the biggest star in this business today, bar none. That's why he has got to have Triple H. You see because Eric Bischoff knows that if Triple H is on the marquee and he's standing in this ring that all these seats are going to be filled. Bischoff is a business genius because he does what's best for RAW unlike some other General Managers like Kurt Angle who does business with his ego. Do you think for one second Kurt Angle wanted Triple H stealing his spotlight on his show? Eric Bischoff does things the way things are supposed to be done and that's why he's going to come out here right now and change the World Title match between Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit to what it should have been all along; he's going to change that to Chris Benoit vs. Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship. Eric Bischoff's music hit and he came out with a smile and asked Triple H how he is? Triple H said he'd say he feels like a million bucks, but he doesn't want to take a pay cut. Bischoff said that Triple H is right, RAW would never be the number one rated show without Triple H, which is why Eric spent all those hours on the phone with Kurt Angle to make the trades. Eric would have traded the entire roster to get Triple H back. Triple H said that's great, but what about his World Title match? Eric said that poses an interesting scenario. He made a verbal commitment to Shawn Michaels and he can't break that commitment because that would be 'against the law.' But he can add to it and make a rematch of the greatest Wrestlemania main event of all time. At Backlash, it's going to be the final encounter; Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit vs. Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship! Triple H was shown backstage with the rest of Evolution and Shelton Benjamin walked by and Evolution told Triple H that he was laughing last week when Triple H was drafted. Batista went over and picked a fight with him, asking him what was so funny last week? Triple H nailed Shelton Benjamin from the side and then he slammed him into a locker. Triple H told Shelton the first rule on RAW is to never disrespect the Game. Welcome to RAW, kid. In the arena, Lance Storm's hip hop music hit and he made his way out and said to stop the music. He can't take this anymore. He tried to please the people with that awful music and with that silly dance and where has it gotten him? He's become a joke! He is mocked by his peers and he is mocked by each and every one of the fans. Everywhere he goes, all he hears is dance Lance, dance. 14 years of hard work and he's been reduced to a joke and a dance? And last week was his one chance to put it all behind him only if he could have been traded to Smackdown!, he could have had a new beginning with new fans. Rhyno's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring as the opponent of Lance Storm. Lance Storm vs. Rhyno Lance Storm gave Rhyno a drop kick as he tried to get into the ring and then Lance backed Rhyno into the corner and kicked and punched away on him. Rhyno immediately fired back on Lance Storm with an intense spinebuster. Rhyno went to the corner and then he plowed through Lance Storm with the Gore to pick up the win in a very quick match. Winner - Rhyno Tajiri was shown walking through the backstage area thinking to himself as to how he is going to apologize to Eric Bischoff. Tajiri went into the General Manager office where Coach was, complaining to Bischoff about what Tajiri did. Coach explained to Bischoff what happened and Tajiri laughed. Apparently, it was some kind of initiation, a hazing if you will. But to make matters even worse, earlier today, he heard Tajiri say he doesn't respect Bischoff. Tajiri called Coach a liar and Coach continued on, saying he also doesn't respect anybody else on RAW and the worst thing is that Tajiri thinks Bischoff is incompetent. You know what makes Coach shudder? It makes him shudder to think, what if it had been Eric Bischoff who walked through that door? Coach turned away and Eric Bischoff laid into Tajiri. Bischoff told Tajiri that if he wants an initiation, here's an initiation. Tonight, here on RAW, it's going to be Tajiri one on one, no disqualification vs. Kane! Bischoff left the room and Coach laughed right in the face of Tajiri as Tajiri was beside himself. Tag Team Championship Match Special Referee: Johnny Nitro Chris Benoit and Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair and Batista (c) Chris Benoit's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring as the World Heavyweight Champion, but here tonight, he is teaming up with Shawn Michaels to take on Ric Flair and Batista of Evolution for the World Tag Team Titles! Before the match started, Lilian Garcia introduced a special guest referee and that's Eric Bischoff's apprentice, Johnny Spade. Johnny came out to the ring and he said that he now wants to be known as Johnny Nitro! And with that, the match started off with Shawn Michaels pairing it off with Batista as Ric Flair went at it with Chris Benoit on the other side of the ring. Ric Flair backed Chris Benoit into the corner and chopped away on him and Chris Benoit fired out of the corner with some knife edge chops of his own. Chris Benoit put Ric Flair in the Crossface and Batista got in the ring and pulled Ric Flair out of the ring to make the save. Shawn Michaels then got in the ring and jumped on both Flair and Batista on the outside of the ring with a double cross body. Shawn Michaels took Ric Flair down to the mat with a drop toe hold and then he put him in the figure four leg lock and referee Johnny Nitro was there to check on Ric Flair to see if he gave up. Johnny seemed very inexperienced as a referee and rightfully so. Batista whipped Shawn Michaels off the ropes and when Shawn came back, Batista planted him with a devastating spinebuster and then he made the tag to Ric Flair. Ric Flair knocked Shawn Michaels down to the mat and then he went to the top turnbuckle but Shawn Michaels got up and slammed Ric Flair down to the center of the ring. Flair got up before Michaels and he bounced off the ropes and went for an elbow drop on Michaels but Michaels rolled out of the way and then he made the tag to Chris Benoit. Chris Benoit gave Batista a shot to knock him down from the ring apron and then he gave Ric Flair a series of German suplexes and then he grabbed Ric Flair by the legs and put him in the sharpshooter but that was quickly broken up when Batista got in the ring. Benoit broke the hold and charged at Batista but Batista knocked Benoit down with a clothesline and then Michaels got in the ring and kicked Batista out of the ring. Johnny Nitro attempted to enforce the rules but Shawn Michaels got in his face, despite the fact that Johnny Nitro is the law in the ring here tonight. Shawn Michaels gave Ric Flair a body slam and then Chris Benoit went to the top rope and came off with the flying headbutt and then Shawn Michaels geared up for the sweet chin music and Shawn nailed Flair with it when he got up and then he pinned Ric Flair for the three count to get the win! Chris Benoit looked ECSTATIC that he and Shawn Michaels won the Tag Team Championship and Shawn Michaels extended his hand to Chris Benoit and they shook hands and hugged as Batista complained to referee Johnny Nitro. Johnny Nitro went to Lilian and he told her that Ric Flair was not the legal man, therefore the match must continue. Ric Flair rolled Shawn up from behind and hooked the tights and Johnny made a quick count in favor of Flair but Michaels was able to kick out. Michaels then knocked Johnny Nitro out with a hard right hand and then the two teams went at it in the ring with Michaels and Benoit clearing the ring of Batista and Flair. Johnny Nitro then crawled over to the ropes and ended the match in a disqualification. Winners by disqualification and still Tag Team Champions, Batista and Ric Flair Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit remained in the ring and Benoit didn't seem too happy about losing the titles but Michaels tried to calm Benoit down. After Batista and Flair left, Michaels got out of the ring and grabbed Johnny Nitro by the hair and then he rolled him into the ring where Chris Benoit put him in the Cripppler Crossface and Shawn Michaels rolled and bounced around the ring to make a mockery of Johnny Nitro. Chris Benoit then shook Shawn's hand and then they raised each other's hands and they would have loved to have been Champions tonight but despite that, they will be opponents at Backlash in just three weeks! Eric Bischoff was shown backstage and he said that he's going to put a stop to this right now. Shelton Benjamin showed up and he said he sees how things work around here. Eric asked him what he meant and Shelton said that he was in the hall and Batista picked a fight with him and Triple H cheap shotted him, saying that he should never disrespect the Game. Bischoff is the boss and he should do something about this. Eric said that Triple H was trying to help Shelton out. You don't disrespect the Game and for that matter, you don't disrespect Eric Bischoff. If you can keep that in your head, you'll have a bright future on RAW. Eric extended his hand to Shelton Benjamin and Eric said that he's just trying to help Shelton out. Stone Cold showed up from behind and he told Shelton not to listen to Bischoff. His first night on RAW, he has a chance to make a name for himself as a singles star. If he shakes Bischoff's hand, he's saying to the world that he's a nothing. Don't shake his hand. If Austin was Shelton, he'd be a man and go out there and challenge Triple H to a match. Shelton took that as good advice and he told Eric that he wants a mach tonight against Triple H. Eric laughed, saying be careful what you wish for because you might just get it because tonight, it's going to be Triple H vs. Shelton Benjamin. Stone Cold then told Shelton that he hopes he knows what he's getting himself into and he wished him good luck. The Highlight Reel Chris Jericho's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring for the Highlight Reel with Trish Stratus! Chris said that he has to be honest with you and congratulate Christian and Trish Stratus. What can he say, they really got him. At Wrestlemania, they humiliated him in front of the world at the biggest event in the history of this company. They got him, but he also wants to let them know that he hasn't forgotten. He's going to have his revenge and get them, but just not tonight. Tonight, Bischoff told him that if he puts his hands on Trish, he'd be fined and suspended and he doesn't want that. Tonight, he wants an explanation so tonight, his guest owes him an explanation so please welcome to the Highlight Reel, Trish Stratus. Trish's music hit in the arena and she came out, mocking Chris Jericho's entrance pose and then she walked down to the ring. Trish Stratus got in the ring and said that Chris can't touch her, not like she touched him at Wrestlemania when she slapped him right in his mouth. So he wants an explanation? It's pretty simple. Jericho just wasn't there for her. Here she is last month in a match against Christian and where was he? He had a bum knee? Poor Jericho. A real man would have sacrificed his body for Trish Stratus. She's Trish Stratus and he wasn't there for her. But you know who was there for her? Christian. He was there for her. At first when he knocked on her hotel room, he didn't want to talk to him but everything he said just made sense. Chris Jericho was trying to do to her what he did to Christian. He was trying to use her. He never cared about her or appreciated her. She's a three time babe of the year and Chris Jericho isn't even in her league. So that night, she and Christian came up with a little plan and that was to humiliate him at Wrestlemania. The fans started chanting "slut, slut, slut" and Trish said call her what you like but their plan worked out pretty good because they humiliated Chris Jericho on the grandest stage of them all. And you know what? That night, they plotted and planned all night long and that's not the only thing they did all night long. How's that for an explanation? Chris said he guesses he understand where she's coming from. Look at her, she's Trish Stratus, a former Women's Champion and three time WWE babe of the year. And after listening to her, he has to say that she's also the biggest slut of the century! Oh yeah, he'd like to thank her for coming out here and putting him in his place. It makes perfect sense. All he did was put his foot in his mouth and that's nothing compared to what she's been putting in her mouth. She's saying that he blew it but he has to say that she's been doing all the blowing around here, sister. And they say that Kurt Angle sucks, hah! Trish Stratus is easier than Paris Hilton on Viagra. Three time babe of the year, wasn't babe a talking pig? In all seriousness, he'd like to thank her for coming out here and opening up because it seems that's what she does best. Chris isn't in her league? He's Chris Jericho, he's a sexy beast, baby! But all props to her and Christian, the CLB and the FDDBBFTBH! That's the Creepy Little Bastard and a filthy, dirty, disgusting, brutal, bottom feeding trash bag ho! Did the Jericholics like that one? (Yeah) Then let's say it together! Chris Jericho rallied the fans in yelling it with him and they drove Trish Stratus right out of the arena! Tajiri was shown walking through the backstage area, very apprehensive about having to wrestle Kane and that's up next! Trish Stratus was shown with Christian and she was going nuts and Christian tried to calm her down. He said he should have been there, but he was in Bischoff's office and he got the match. He's going to get Chris back for what he said. Backlash is going to be the worst night of Jericho's life. No Disqualification Match Tajiri vs. Kane Tajiri's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring for a one on one match Kane and this is a result of what he did earlier tonight when he sprayed the green mist into the face of Eric Bischoff's boy, The Coach. Kane approached Tajiri and Tajiri hit Kane with a couple kicks and then a punch and then Kane grabbed Tajiri and launched him into the corner but Tajiri fought out of the corner with some kicks on Kane. Tajiri nailed Kane with the handspring back elbow but Kane didn't go down and Kane grabbed Tajiri but Tajiri kicked Kane to get out of it and then he kicked Kane right in the head. Kane fired back with a big boot to knock Tajiri down to the mat and Kane went to the top rope for the clothesline but Tajiri ducked it. Tajiri tried to put Kane in the tarantula but Kane dumped Tajiri to the outside of the ring and then Kane slammed Tajiri into the security wall. Kane and Tajiri battled on the outside of the ring and Tajiri sprayed the green mist into the face of Kane and then he got back in the ring and the referee completed the count to count Kane out of the ring, giving the match to Tajiri. Winner as a result of a count out, Tajiri An angered Kane got in the ring and Tajiri went to kick him but Kane blocked it and planted Tajiri with a choke slam. Kane held onto the choke and he picked Tajiri up and went for another one but Edge stormed to the ring and speared Kane right down to the mat! Edge left the ring with a huge smile on his face and Kane sat right up but Edge showed no fear towards The Big Red Machine as his music played throughout the arena. Shelton Benjamin was shown in his locker room and Chris Benoit showed up. Chris Benoit told Shelton that Smackdown! is the past, but this is RAW. Chris gave Shelton props for standing up to Triple H. Triple H is the cerebral assassin and he's great at playing head games but it's also his greatest weakness, his ego. Chris told Shelton to go out there and show Triple H what he is all about. Triple H told Benoit that he'd never be able to do it and Chris Benoit made Triple H tap out. Chris told Shelton to go show Triple H where he comes from and what he represents. Show him that Shelton is the man and not Triple H. Shelton went through the hallway and he walked into the Hurricane and Hurricane told Shelton to do us all a favor and take Triple H down. Mick Foley walked up to Shelton and he said that on RAW, you don't get to make yourself a second impression. He's been impressive on Smackdown! and tonight, it's his chance to make it. Ric Flair was shown pumping up Triple H for his match against Shelton Benjamin tonight and Flair said that he wants everyone in that locker room to be standing and learning a lesson about respect! Triple H vs. Shelton Benjamin Triple H's music hit in the arena and he made his way out to the ring for a one on one match against the newly acquired RAW talent, Shelton Benjamin who is making his RAW debut here tonight! Triple H smiled and laughed at Shelton Benjamin and then he locked it up with Shelton and Shelton backed Triple H into the corner but Triple H reversed him in the corner. The referee called for a break and he got just that and then Triple H tapped Shelton Benjamin on the face, very arrogantly. Shelton Benjamin took Triple H down to the mat with a waist lock and Triple H quickly went to the ropes and Shelton returned the favor by tapping Triple H on the face. As the match was going on, the fans chanted "you tapped out, you tapped out!" at Triple H, who tapped out to Chris Benoit at Wrestlemania XX. Triple H went for the Pedigree on Shelton Benjamin but Shelton Benjamin ducked down and back to get out of it. Shelton Benjamin took Triple H down with a back slide pin but he only got a two count but it was very close. Triple H looked shocked as he was almost defeated by Benjamin. Benjamin gloated and then he took Triple H down with a fireman carry into an arm bar on the mat. Shelton went to kick Triple H but Triple H caught his foot and Triple H spun Shelton around and Shelton came back with a very quick dragon whip to knock Triple H down to the mat. Shelton then pinned Triple H but only got a two count. At this point, Ric Flair came out to the ringside area and Triple H tossed Shelton Benjamin out of the ring and Ric Flair started to approach Shelton but Chris Benoit came out to even up the odds on the outside of the ring. Shelton Benjamin rolled Triple H up in a small package but only got a two count and a frustrated Triple H grabbed Shelton and whipped him right into the steel ring post and then he brought him to the other side of the ring and did it again as Ric Flair looked on from the outside of the ring. Triple H put Shelton Benjamin in a sleeper hold in an attempt to put him out of the match but Shelton ducked down and pulled Triple H right into the top turnbuckle to break the hold. A worried Triple H looked to have waved someone else to come out to the ring but he tried not to be too obvious in doing so. Shelton Benjamin fired away on Triple H with a series of right hands and then a high back body drop and then he took Triple H down to the mat with a Russian leg sweep into the pin for a two count. Shelton Benjamin put Triple H in a sleeper hold and Triple H countered it into a back suplex and Triple H went to the second rope and jumped off at Shelton but Shelton got his feet up into the face of Triple H to send Triple H crashing down to the mat. Shelton Benjamin knocked Triple H to the outside of the ring with a hard clothesline and then Shelton ran the ring apron and knocked Triple H down with a jumping clothesline. Ric Flair approached Shelton again but Shelton was ready for him and Chris Benoit crept up from behind for extra protection. Triple H gave Shelton a cheap shot from behind but Shelton slammed Triple H's head off the steps and then he rolled him back into the ring. Shelton went to the top rope and came off with a diving clothesline and a pin for a two count as the fans were well behind Shelton Benjmain. Triple H went for the Pedigree again but Shelton pulled Triple H down to the mat and flipped over Triple H into a pin for a two count. Behind the referee's back, Ric Flair gave Shelton Benjamin a cheap shot and then Chris Benoit went over to Ric Flair and exchanged words with him and Triple H had his sights set on what was going on, on the outside of the ring. Shelton Benjamin splashed Triple H in the corner and then he rolled Triple H up with a cradle and then pinned him for the three count to get the win! Winner - Shelton Benjamin Triple H absolutely could not believe his loss to Shelton Benjamin as Shelton celebrated his HUGE victory with Chris Benoit on the outside of the ring!
