WWE RAW Results - 2/9/04 - Ric Flair vs Chris Benoit
Were live from Portland, Orgeon and tonight well see a triple threat match between Randy Orton, Booker T and Rob Van Dam as well as Ric Flair vs. Chris Benoit and the official contract signing for the Wrestlemania XX match between Benoit and Triple H.

Goldberg comes out first. But instead of his opponent being announced, Vince McMahons music hits and out comes Mr. McMahon. Vince informs Goldberg that he will have no match tonight as he is officially cancelling it. Before he can explain, Stone Cold comes out on his ATV. Vince gets angry so Austin asks him what the hell is he doing here. Vince talks about last week when Austin came Goldberg the front row ticket to No Way Out and says that they should face the consequences. Vince then introduces his personally invited guest for tonight - Paul Heyman.

Heyman first tells Austin he should be ashamed of himself for coaxing Chris Benoit to RAW. But hes here to address Goldberg. He tells Goldberg that all he will be allowed to do is sit at No Way Out and watch Brock Lesnar defend his title against Eddie Guerrero. If he interferes in the match, Brock Lesnar has said that he will deal with him later. Goldberg responds by saying that Brock Lesnar is next. Heyman is furious so Goldberg nails him with the Spear as Austin starts chugging down some beer. Goldberg tries to Spear Vince, but Vince moves and instead Goldberg spears Austin. Vince runs away as Goldberg is left to wonder what went wrong.

Backstage, Goldberg tells Austin that it was a mistake. He wants to know that when he walks away, should he expect a Stunner from behind. Stone Cold says that if he does decide to give him the Stunner, it will be no mistake. Goldberg says he can live with that.

Backstage, Vince McMahon confronts Eric Bischoff about what just happened. He says that Goldberg is a lunatic for trying to spear him. Vince tells Bischoff to go tell Goldberg that hes officially suspended and that if Goldberg shows up at No Way Out, Bischoff will be in trouble.

Trish Stratus & Chris Jericho vs. Molly Holly & Matt Hardy

This is a mixed tag team match so men can only face men and the women can only face each other. Jericho sells a left knee injury and gets thrown into the steel steps. In the ring, Trish goes after Molly but Matt pulls her down prompting Christian to come down and to take Matt out. Molly tries for the handspring elbow but Trish counters it into a victory roll for the pinfall victory.

Several members of the Portland Trailblazers are in the audience, including Rasheed Wallace and Zach Randolph.

Backstage, Christian talks to Trish and says theres no reason the three of them cant have a healthy relationship. Trish says that Jericho isnt doing so good so he goes in to check on him. Before he does, Christian tells Trish that she looks really good tonight.

Backstage, Mark Jindrak and Garrison Cade are flipping through the latest Playboy with Sable and Torrie in it. Jackie and Stacy come down and promise to show the rest of the world that they arent so bad themselves. Jackie says they wont take this lying down.

Backstage, Mick Foley is stopped by Jonathan Coachman. Coach asks him why hes here - hasnt he been embarassed enough? Foley says that tonight its his turn to embarass Orton, perhaps by costing him his IC title.

Chris Benoit vs. Ric Flair

Its a chop-fest to begin, both inside and outside the ring. Match progresses until Benoit suplexes Flair from the top but them misses the top rope headbutt when Flair moves out of the way. Commercial. We come back to see Flair in control hitting Benoit with rights and lefts. The finish sees Benoit counter the Figure Four into his Crippler Crossface. After a few seconds, Flair taps out.

Backstage, Triple H tells a ref to tell Eric Bischoff that he wants to do the contract signing next.

We come back to see everything set up for the contract signing. Benoit is already there and Triple H is introduced by Eric Bischoff. Triple H immediately sits down and signs the contract. Before Benoit can do the same, Triple H says that Benoit looks calm and confident. But the reality is, hes feeling a bit queasy. Triple H then talks about Wrestlemania 20 and tries to psyche him out by telling him that if he thinks hell win, its all a dream. The reality is hell choke. Before Benoit can sign, Triple H leaves the ring Shawn Michaels comes out.

Michaels talks about finishing his business with Triple H once and for all for the world championship on the biggest stage in wrestling. Benoit says he has nothing but respect for Michaels and he wants to be the last person to stand in the way of him settling his issues with Triple H. But unfortunately, it wont happen at Wrestlemania XX. Benoit says hes going to sign the contract so it will be Benoit vs. Triple H at Wrestlemania 20 so Michaels responds by super-kicking Benoit. Shawn then goes and signs the contract himself, confusing everyone.

Kane vs. Hurricane

Basically a squash with Kane dominating and finishing Hurricane off with a chokeslam. After the match, Kane tries to light the pyro on the ringposts but they dont go off so he angrily looks around and tries again but to no avail. He tries a third time and it works so Kane starts smiling. On the Titan Tron, we see a message that says In 34 days, the dead will rise again. The Undertaker is seen on the video and the bell tolls as Kane looks on, dumbfounded.

Backstage, a furious Chris Benoit is calmed down by Eric Bischoff. Bischoff says that right now, Shawn Michaels signature is on the contract but he assures Benoit that he will get it sorted out with his attorneys to make it right. Bischoff goes on to announce that next week it will be Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels.

Backstage, Terri interviews Randy Orton. Orton says that its unfair he has to defend his title tonight, that too in a triple threat match and with Mick Foley lurking around. Orton thinks everything surrounding him is a conspiracy.

Backstage, Coach interviews Goldberg. Goldberg tells Coach that hes still going to No Way Out and Brock Lesnar is still next.

Mick Foley comes out for an interview. Foley insinuates that Orton probably has something to hide and shows a picture on the Titan Tron of a younger Randy Orton who joined the US Armed Forces. Foley says that Orton went AWOL and turned his back on his country. So Foley asks Orton if all the times he was calling him a coward, maybe he was talking about himself deep down inside. Foley asks for a match against Orton at Wrestlemania XX. Orton appears on the big screen and says that he wants the match to happen on his terms. Orton says he wants to face him one-on-one right now so Mick drops his mic and heads to the back.

Backstage, Foley hunts for Orton and gets directions from various people. As he enters the room with Orton, Foley is quickly surrounded by Batista and Ric Flair. They attack Foley as it finally dawns on JR that Mick was set up. Batista ends up powerbombing Foley through a table covered in food. Orton then walks over to a fallen Foley and slaps him around a little before coming back with a cheapshot kick.

Intercontinental Championship
Rob Van Dam vs. Booker T vs. Randy Orton

All three wrestlers kind of take turns getting beat up and sitting out, leaving the remaining two to wrestle one-on-one. Booker counters an RKO and sets himself up for a belly-to-back suplex and a high cross body combo courtesy of Booker and RVD. RVD then tries to pin both Orton and Booker but gets only a two count each time. RVD then hits a Five Star Frog splash a few minutes later but Orton pushes RVD out and gets the pin on Booker T himself.

After the match, Ric Flair and Batista come out to congratulate Randy Orton. Mick Foley also limps out and challenges the Evolution members to come after him. Orton obliges and hits an RKO on Mick as Batista and Flair continue to beat up RVD and Booker T.
