WWE News & Notes - 7/9/03 - BretHart.com Comments On RAW/HBK, Goldberg Not On RAW, Stephanie/Vince Storyline, HBK/Jericho
-  Regarding last night's edition of WWE RAW with Shawn Michaels "apologizing" to Bret Hart on Chris Jericho's "Highlight Reel" segment in Montreal, BretHart.com (the official website of Bret "Hitman" Hart) posted the following:

"Regarding Shawn Michaels' comments on the July 7th Raw from Montreal where he stated that he apologized to Bret Hart, brethart.com (Bret's official web site) would like to clarify that Bret Hart has never received any apology whatsoever from Shawn Michaels. For a man who claims to have found God to outright lie to millions of people is disappointing to say the least."

-  As I'm sure you realized, Bill Goldberg did not appear on RAW last night. Many fans wondered why this was the case, as he's been getting a renewed push lately on TV, and missing RAW would take some focus off of him.

Believe it or not, he was originally scheduled to work against La Resistance. However, he arrived at the building with an arm infection, and went for medical treatment. His match was therefore pulled from the show.

-  There has been a lot of negative reaction to the Stephanie and Vince McMahon angle thathas been playing out on SmackDown! over the past few weeks. I am of course referring to the sex-talk segments that have been airing over the past few weeks. Many felt uncomfortable with Stephanie revealing she offered favors to Vince's business associates, however, Vince throwing out the line about his pimp work making it "as if" he deflowered his own daughter was considered to be very disturbing. The general consensus is that both the McMahon's are booking themselves at everyones expense, thus booking SmackDown! into the ground.

-  The word from backstage is that WWE had Jericho turn on the Canadian crowd at the end of the Highlight Reel last night as a way to prevent fans turning him into a face. WWE doesn't want the hometown (or nation, in this case) crowd reaction (which is almost always a face pop) to affect their characters, and had to have Jericho turn on the audience so that none of the face reaction carries over when WWE returns to the US.

Of course, the promo was a bit odd, since Jericho went from "Mr. Canada" to suddenly hating Canada, but it was the only way WWE felt they could build up a match between the two (with HBK face and Jericho heel), while also allowing HBK to talk about the screwjob.
