WWE News & Notes - 3/20/04 - WWE Releases Ron "Faarooq" Simmons!
-  Ron Simmons, better known to WWE fans as Faarooq, has been released from his World Wrestling Entertainment contract.  Simmons, who was the first black World Champion, made his WWE debut in 1996 and started the Nation of Domination.  He was the leader of the group until mid 1998 when The Rock took over.  In 1999, he formed the Acolytes with Bradshaw and won the Tag Team Titles on numerous occasions.

Last year, Simmons retired from active competition and began working backstage as a road agent for the company, allowing Bradshaw to try to make it on his own as a singles star.  Simmons came out of retirement to reform the APA with Bradshaw on the Smackdown brand.  Simmons last match with the company was Thursday night on Smackdown, teaming with Bradshaw against Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty for the WWE Tag Team Championships.  This can be looked at as Simmons' retirement from the business.

-  The reason Ron SImmons was released from the WWE was actually because of a drug related issue that he refused to seek help for or even acknowledge.  Some are even going as far as to say that may have been the reason for him standing up to The Big Show last week.

Simmons was also said to be very unpleasant when it came to last weekend's Wrestlemania XX PPV.  He was ticked off that WWE would not get him a personal limo from the hotel to MSG the night of the show.  He was asked to take the private bus rented by WWE for all the superstars to ride on.  Apparently that wasn't goof enough for his standards though.
