Detailed WWE RAW House Show Results From Madison Square Garden 2/1/03
World Wrestling Entertainment actually gave away a preview of the main event of Wrestlemania X9 as Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar headlined the 2/1 Madison Square Garden Raw roster house show.

With a scheduled main event between Raw World champion Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar on tap, the change in the main event was due to yet another leg injury suffered by Helmsley.

After Stephanie McMahon had introduced Lesnar, Helmsley and Ric Flair came out on crutches. Helmsley declared he was injured on Monday at Raw and could not defend the championship. Stephanie attempted to goad him into wrestling and Helmsley stated that not even Vince McMahon could come to the ring and make him wrestle. Vince did indeed come down to the ring and said he was going to come up with an alternative.

Paul Heyman came out and suggested to McMahon that Lesnar face Team Angle. McMahon agreed. Helmsley and Flair left. Stephanie protested and Heyman told her that he was ashamed to be associated with her due to her actions. Stephanie slapped Heyman. Out came Team Angle with Kurt Angle. Kurt told Lesnar that if he could defeat Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas in singles matches, he would get a WWE championship match. The story of both singles matches was that Team Angle worked on Lesnar's leg. He pinned Benjamin with the F-5, and then pinned Charlie Haas.

Angle hit the ring and blocked Lesnar's leg from behind and locked on the ankle lock. Lesnar powered out and he and Angle traded punches. Angle went for the Angle Slam, but Lesnar landed on his feet and hit an over the head suplex. He went for the F-5 but Team Angle jumped him, setting off a DQ. Lesnar F-5'd Team Angle to end the show.

Complete results of the undercard:

*Steven Richards pinned Spike Dudley with a chickenwing DDT variation.

*Sean O'Haire pinned Rico after a variation of the Razor's Edge powerbomb.

*Rob Van Dam, coming out to the biggest ovation of the night, pinned D-Lo Brown with a Five Star Frog Splash.

*Scott Steiner pinned Batista.

*Booker T pinned Christian with a scissorskick.

*WWE Ladies champion Victoria defeated Molly Holly and Jacqueline in a Triple Threat match after Steven Richards interfered.

*Chris Jericho, with Christian, pinned Test after a low blow.

*Raw World Tag Team champions Lance Storm and William Regal defeated the Dudley Boyz after the interference of Chief Morley. Spike Dudley hit the ring to help set up Morley getting the 3-D. Crowd gave the Dudleys a huge ovation after the match.

Notes: It looked to be about 12-13 thousand in attendance....One really wonders why they would wait until two hours plus into the show to give any hint that Triple H wouldn't be working. The substitution, even with the tease of Angle vs. Lesnar did not get over with the crowd as fans began walking out as soon as Lesnar vs. Benjamin began and there were many "refund" catcalls. It was doubly odd to book a substitution in the final match of the night and then not do a clean finish, although they obviously weren't going to do a title change. They may have been better advised to pull this in the middle of the card, in order to put another babyface (Van Dam?) over clean at the end...Speaking of RVD, who in the world booked Rob Van Dam to work third match from the bottom of the card? Unless RVD or D-Lo Brown needed to rush out of the building because of a personal matter, that's absolutely moronic decision making....The show was a poor showing for the Raw crew in front of a lukewarm crowd at best....The New York fans all gave Brock Lesnar a standing ovation as he entered the ring. He's over bigtime in a larger than life way.
