In 1991 we took an earlier vacation than usual. I had just
completed my second year at Vol State and was full of angst. The month was May. The lillies
were blooming and the days were still pleasantly warm.
We headed south again in the old Buick Somerset. I enjoyed driving
that car and I did part of the driving on this excursion. We listened to some of my cassettes
on the way to Tampa and Saint Petersburg, Florida.
In Tampa Bay we stopped at Busch Gardens theme Park. It's somewhat
like a zoo with shows and a few rides sprinkled in. The whole place is modeled after Africa.
It had big cats in the Serengeti Plain, apes in the Congo and snake charmers in Naiiobi. They
also had a clydesdale stable and a brewery. We also rode a train around the park.
On the way back up to Atlanta, we stopped at some wildlife park in
northern Florida. We took some boat ride there and fed some giraffes. Tempers flared in Atlanta
while we were looking for a motel. We finally calmed down and found a place.
We spent the next day in the Atlanta Zoo and that night at a
baseball game. The Braves beat the San Francisco Giants 3-2 with the winning run in the ninth
inning. Kevin Bass hit two homers for the Giants.
