In 1985 due to a general malaise and
growing restlessness, the Wilson family decided to take its first
vacation in years. The destination was Saint Louis, MO. My parents
and I all piled into a brand new white Nissan truck. There was not
much elbow room.
It was early July and the itinary was
set. Our first view of the Gateway Arch was breathtaking. We stayed
at a Drury Inn motel with a swimming pool. Dad watched Conan the
Barbarian on TV.
We went to the Saint Louis Zoo, inside
the Arch, and to a Cardinals basball game. Mom was hesitant to take
the elevator to the top of the Arch, but reluctantly agreed. She
became dizzy when we got to the top.
We saw the baseball game on the Fourth
of July. It was a nice crowd and the Cardinals beat the Dodgers 3-2.
There was a spectacular fireworks display after the game.
Sometime during the trip dad bought a
camper for the truck. Mom lost a hat she bought at the zoo on the way
back.
