In 1997 we took two short trips. In June we went north to Louisville and Evansville, Indiana.
In November we headed south to the city of Atlanta.
The summer trip up north was a jam-packed two day affair. first
we went to Louisville. We visited the Louisville Slugger Bat Factory and Museum there. This is
where all the official baseball bats that major leaguers use are made. We got a tour of the
facility and learned how the bats are produced. We even got to see an official bat come off the
production line! That night we drove to Evansville and had some difficulty finding a good
motel.
The next day we woke up early and stayed late. We first headed to
the local zoo. It had a lot of animals for a small zoo. It was educational and mom was almost
bitten by a giraffe. Afterwards, we went to Casino Aztar. It is a huge riverboat on the Ohio
River with three levels of gambling. Mom was incensed and refused to join me. We almost came
to blows but we made up in the end.
In November we spent a three day weekend in Atlanta. The first
day we drove in a torrential rain. That night we saw a profane movie and walked out in the
middle of it. On Sunday we saw a football game at the Georgia Dome. The Falcons beat the St.
Louis Rams 34-31. Jamal Anderson rushed for 159 yards and a last second field goal won the
game. That evening we dined at Planet Hollywood. The parking rates next door were sky high
and mom almost had a cow. We concluded our trip next day with a walk downtown and checked out
Underground Atlanta, a historic and popular shopping venue.
