NAMAZ - THE ONLY THING WE HAVE
by Farheen Naseem

Namaz to me was a farz, a responsibility which Allah has placed on all muslims, and if they don’t fulfil it they are punished. This way of thinking made namaz a burden...even more than that an unfair deal. What changed my attitude towards this pillar of Islam was the way I understood it to be. When I started to analyse namaz I made an astonishing discovery. Namaz is actually an opportunity for us to talk to Allah. He is Compassionate enough to let us join the entire universe, from the budding seeds buried deep in the earth to the vibrating atoms in the sky, in praising Him. Conversing with Him. Asking for everything from Him and building a relationship with Him five times and even more in just 24 hours. Imagine the all profit end.……no loss deal we are striking here.

Namaz is going to reveal a whole new world to us. Namaz is the basis of our religion. Have we ever wondered why?

If we learn to establish namaz then we have laid a strong foundation on which we can construct the building of faith. Without namaz, without the base, there is no building, no faith, and ultimately no sense of peace. Once we learn to perform namaz at the appointed time... in the best time chosen by Allah

Himself, we start to give importance to Allah in our lives. We turn towards Allah and He's the kind Who wont ignore us. The experience of namaz can fill our hearts with true happiness and blithe as of which we have never known.

When we make our niyat for namaz we get transformed into another world. The namaz is the ascension of the believer across the seven heavens into the direct presence of Allah. We are in the presence of a Power Who is the Rabb of the entire universe. Do we realize how vast this world is? He owns it.

Not performing namaz is a blatant refusal to talk to Allah. The bond which connects us with Allah is broken.

In not performing namaz we believe we are expressing our anger to Allah. Doesn’t He already know? This pointless anger can only bring us depression, ultimate loneliness and an empty heart. If we could only let the love of Allah fill our hearts we would find true and lasting happiness. Escape from Allah is neither possible nor desirable. Allah has introduced Himself to us as Rehman and Rahim. Why not avail the opportunity that He grants us to talk to Him and ask for His unlimited rehmat. Namaz is our identity. It is the distinguishing factor between a muslim and the rest of the people of the world. If we ignore this pillar then we are actually giving up our identity of being muslim.
