Soon After Destroying Buddha's Statues, It Rained Heavily In Afghanistan
Really it is Allah's gift to the miserable Afghani Moslem nation. That poor nation's sufferings have been quite long ones. First, it suffered from a lengthy bloody struggle against the Red Communism (i.e. the late U.S.S.R.). Then - after getting rid of the Russian Bear - it began to suffer again because of the civil war that broke out among its own citizens. Moreover, it suffered again from the consequences of that civil war ..... Continue

AFP reported that on Wednesday, the 21st of March, 2001, it rained cats and dogs in Afghanistan. It is known that it has not rained there for four years. For four years not a single drop of rain came from the sky. Therefore, its Moslem people suffered from drought that left them with almost nothing. The very heavy rain came to their rescue during the very same week in which Buddha's statues were destroyed by Taliban!!

This is a reward from Allah the Almighty for such an obedient nation that destroyed some statues, which were- without any legitimate claim- worshipped as gods in Allah's Earth. That's why He granted them what they have been longing for for years. He gave them one of the most valuable graces, viz. 'water' about which He says in the Holy Qur'an:

"... We made from water every living thing." [Quran, 21: 30]

Noah -May Allah grant him mercy and peace!- said that he addressed his people who worshipped some statues as gods:

"Saying. 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; for He is Oft-Forgiving; He will send you rain in abundance; Give you increase in wealth and children; And bestow on you Gardens and bestow on you Rivers (of flowing water). What is the matter with you, that ye place not your hope for kindness and long suffering in Allah..?" [Quran, 71: 10-13]

Furthermore, Afghanistan reached its own goal as it could draw the world's attention to the existence of a nation called Afghanistan. I admit that it's the first time for me to know that 400 persons die of starvation in that Moslem country. Some well-known American newspapers and international news agencies interviewed Sayed Rahmat-u-llah Hashemi, the official representative of Afghanistan. The man's words were highly effective and expressive, as far as stating of the self-contradiction of the current international approaches is concerned. For example, in his interview with the famous American "New York Times", he said:

"When your children are dying in front of you, then you don't care about a piece of art"

Through granting such a gift, Allah the Almighty implies His content with what the Afghani nation did (i.e. destroying Buddha's statues). Really once you act - seeking Allah's content, even if your action may displease mortal creatures, Allah will reward you with granting you His Own content and those beings' content, too.

Indeed what happened has a powerful message for those - including some Moslems - who criticized Taliban bitterly for the destruction of the statues. According to those criticizers, Taliban are underdeveloped, old-fashioned people, civilization deformators, scarcely religiously enlightened, who hardly understand the reality of their present day! Will those criticizers change their minds now?

May Allah grant the Afghani nation His blessings!

May Allah relieve such a miserable poor nation that hardly gets what to live on!

May Allah preserve Afghanistan from ordeals!

May Allah unite their hearts and give them guidance and success!

(Amen!!)

And praise be to Allah.
