Meeting: October 9, 2000

The October 9 meeting of the Muskingum College Republicans was called to order by Chairman Troy Walton at 8:00. Executive reports were given.

Chairman Troy Walton: Discussed last week’s debates at Papa Chuck’s and Damons. Reviewed last Wednesday and Thursday’s activities with George W. Bush in Reynoldsburg. Troy also reviewed the County Republican meeting and Super Saturday. He then announced that Treasurer Renee Morrow has been appointed Communications Director for OCRF and that Michael Nelson is now appointed as Muskingum’s 2nd Vice-Chair. There was no Vice-Chair or Treasurer’s report. Secretary Megan Payne reminded everyone to visit the website.

Committee Reports: Megan Payne discussed the voter registration drive, great job done, over 100 students were registered. Local Campaign’s Chair Levi Shegog reviewed the plans for the Homecoming float this weekend. Judge Terrence O’Donnell, candidate for Supreme Court judge will be joining the festivities. Troy Walton announced that Oliver North will be visiting Zanesville the first Thursday in February.

Under new business, the second presidential debate social sponsored by the Muskingum County Republicans will be held at Dave’s Union Bar in Zanesville. State Representative Nancy Hollister, will be the guest speaker at our next meeting. The meeting place has been changed to Boyd Science Center room 343. State Board is this coming Sunday.

Tim Sparks, former Muskingum Chairman and OCRF chairman, was the guest speaker. He congratulated the group on good turnouts and spoke on the effects of voter turnout and left-wing stereotyping and labeling.

The next meeting will be October 16, 2000 at 8:00 p.m. in Boyd Science Center Large Auditorium.
