The October 30 meeting of the Muskingum College Republicans was called to order by Chairman Troy Walton at 8:00 p.m.. State Representative Jim Aslanides was introduced as the guest speaker. Upcoming Events: Colin Powell will be speaking at Miami University. The third presidential debate will be viewed at Papa Chuck’s in Zanesville, and CRs will be assisting in the labeling of the county mailing. Senator Jim Carnes will be making a donation to Muskingum College Republicans for helping with lit drops. Renee Morrow discussed the Young Republican Fall Rally. Levi Shegog needs assistance with phone calls on Tuesday and Wednesday night for campaigns. Megan Payne discussed updates to the website and encouraged everyone to view it. Angie White and Levi Shegog will be looking into T-shirts and designs for the group. Troy announced that anyone wishing to help with the Bush/Cheney campaign is needed to help in West Virginia this weekend.
Oliver North updates: The fund-raiser will take place on February 1st, 2001. There will be a VIP reception at the Shultz Mansion and the keynote speech will be at the Zanesville Country Club.
Upcoming events: The movie Bob Roberts will be shown on Wednesday at 7:00. Senator Carnes’ bus tour will begin Saturday at 8:00 am, ending with a Zanesville Rally at 2:00. Reginal Jones will be speaking at Ohio University on November 6 at 8:00 p.m.. College Republicans are invited to celebrate on election night with the Muskingum County party and at the Hyatt Regency.
Jim Aslanides spoke to the group about various topics including commitment and character, the problems with rural districts, strategic alliances, organizations, the hard work ethic, Ohio term limits, upcoming important legislation, small business in politics, his committees, and the upcoming difficulty for rural representatives to reach leadership roles.
The meeting ended with members writing pro-Bush messages on chalk boards throughout campus.
