| Gaucho, Ouch! | Jacksonville, FL - Joshua Mitchell is mowing the lawn and sees bees. His dad drives over to investigate and his car sinks into the underground yellow jacket nest. The bees get into the car and start singing Marvin & Ian Mitchell. Todd Robertson with the fire dept arrives. Phillip Koehler says there is 50,000 and 100,000 bees per nest and they can sting over and over. They want to save their nest and will keep attacking. Firemen hook up the car and tow it out, but the bees are still there. They spray them with an extinguisher, but they were still afraid to run for it. Firemen yell for them to get out. They finally get into the ambulance with 70 stings each. It's like getting a shot, then it burns, everything hurts, it felt like they would die. They were in there a half hour. Mt. Maroon, Australia - Jim Flanagan says the mountain is unforgiving. Anne-Marie Gibson's husband David Gibson, his friend and 165 pound mastiff dog Diff went climbing on 12/31 and never came back. They eventually find the dog. Greg Reaburn went down from a chopper to them and it was dangerous at every level. They pull them up after 2 days and have to go back for the dog. The wind and fuel don't cooperate and they call it off. Mark Gamble hears the story and offers to climb up himself and David goes with him. He had to harness the dog to him and rappel down 2 hours to get him to safe ground. General Picco, Argentina - Al Dunning says the horses are known for their strength. A gaucho has to stay on the bucking bronco for 14 seconds. Juan Domingo Canete (33) gets on Dollar for the first time and the horse goes up. Alfredo Ramos says he got thrown to the ground and caught in the stirrup. He rides and gets his head slammed into the ground over and over and is knocked out. It runs away and he finally falls out. Mercedes Canete says he suffered head trauma. He woke up after 2 days with bruises all over. Inola, OK 7/22/98 - Thomas Phillips goes on vacation with his family. They have a white albino python on a farm. Dr. Erick Bozzi says they are very aggressive. His wife Rosenda wears it around her neck, then it bites their 3 year old daughter Elora Phillips on the hand. Her sister Tanina saw the hand and started crying. They were told it wouldn't bite. It coiled up because it was defensive, it saw her as an aggressor. There was no stitches or infection. Quick - Santiago, Mexico - running with the bulls. An obese shirtless man gets down in front of a bull to dance and the bull slams him in the butt, knocks him down and slams him again. Rex Dunn says they go after movement. Slickville, PA - Dave Cindric says a very thick mud retaining pond caught a deer. Lance Monta helps him by using a fishing net, then a rope around the neck, then the rope double wrapped, then again. It's out, but fighting. They try again pulling as hard as they can. Dr. Tim Van Deelen says they have stronger necks than humans and can handle it. They get it up, and flops around and falls back in. They yank it all the way up, but the rope is still on it. Tim says it's better to sedate it. #206. 1/18/09 |
| Elephant Seal Attack | Sea of Cortez, Mexico - Florian Graner & Seth Schulberg film seals on the beach, then go into the water with them. They play with a giant seal, then it bites right down on Florian’s head with the camera showing down it’s throat, then it goes for Seth too. Bureny Le Beouf says they were nuts, it’s a young seal, 8 years old and can break your arm. They swallow food whole. Set gets pulled by the arm for 45 minutes. Dothan, AL - Denise Luna was a model/bull rider. Bill Baker says she was pro ranked. Aime Molder says she never thought about injury. She rides a bull called 7-7, is thrown off and her hand is caught in the rope because she did a suicide wrap and she’s swung and kicked around trying to stand. Then the bull slams it’s horn right into her jaw, knocks her off and she limps out. After she says it was her worst ride ever, like she was in handcuffs and hit a truck without a helmet. She wasn’t punctured. Dr. Tandy Freeman says she broke 4 bones in her foot. It could’ve been worse. She thought she ruined her career, but is retired now. Porter, TX - William Hart was cleaning his house and his umbrella cocteau escaped out the window. He climbs 70 feet up a tree to rescue it using his back and a smaller tree. Dubbie Mizell his sister thought he was crazy and called 911 when he couldn’t come down. Scott Engle says he wouldn’t let him go, it rained and the ground was soft, so no ladder truck. Their regular ladder won’t reach either so they bring in a chopper that can’t get to him either because of the trees. After 5 hours they bring in a coast guard chopper, but it blows the trees hard. Chuck Medema was lowered down to him. He bounces off the branch where Bill is. He didn’t know he had a bird on him. He hooks them up and pulls them out. Will has no regrets. The next day they clip his wings so he can’t escape and put new hooks on him. Now he can walk him on a leash. Adelaide Hills, Australia - Ron Papps announces a steeplechase horse race. Anthony McEvoy knew Simon Mills was riding well on Sir Sagamore, everything was going great. On the third jump the horse lands bad and Simon is trying to dismount, but his foot is caught in the reigns and he is bounced along the track by his head. When he comes up to the next jump he could be killed. David Londregan was behind him and thought he was dead. He makes the jump 15 feet in the air, hits the horse next to him and David reaches over and stops the horse and Simon is popped out. He only broke his arm. Quick - Bronson, MI 11/19/08 - a deer runs in front of a police car and he hits it. It rolls over down the road, gets up and runs away. Then the cop gets out and checks the damage. Bangkok, Thailand - elephant Tom Kim went to drink and fell in a muddy pond. Corasik Kongitir & Prateep Anantasuk help. Willie Theison says she didn’t know she got trapped. A group of handlers go in the mud the push, pull, clean and lift her out. It’s cold and she could die. They use a backhoe with fire hoses around her to lift her out, but the ropes slip off and she falls over and over. If there is too much pressure it could die. They try again and a man rides on top to direct her. It takes 5 hours to get her out. Then she collapses and they feed her and Dr. Alongkorn gives her an IV. 10 years later, elephants are banned from streets and she is in a sanctuary. #207. 1/25/09 |
| Trouble at the Track | Philadelphia, PA - Tracie Allen Grande was a jockey. Lou Yanuzzi signed her up. Her mom Stacie says that’s all she wanted to do. She rides Midnight Marathon, the horse goes down and she is stepped on. Dr. Jeannine Berger says it got spooked and turned. Her back and face were broken. 2 years later she rides again and is thrown breaking her collarbone. Anderson, IN - harness racing. Ross Turley says you get catapulted. Captain Matthews was driven by Terri Leannis and ran over another horses wheel and was thrown. Terry Chambers was photographing it. It went for the stands, people start running, it goes for the exit, but it’s the winner’s circle and it can’t stand on the asphalt and keeps falling and getting up. It heads for the glass door and Terry and others grab him and he calms down. Terri was thrown and hurt, but not badly. The steel bit had broke and she couldn’t steer it anymore. Melbourne, Australia - steeplechase race with Hugh O’Sullivan. Brian Constable was next to Joe Hateley who was launched when the horse changed it’s mind and didn’t want to jump. Des Gleeson was over him, never saw one so bad. He holds on the reigns and goes 20 feet up and over and slams into the ground. He takes another rider down with him. Greg Groves shows the material, the tree bristles that bothers the horse. Horse and rider were OK. Sydney, Australia 9/96 - Harold Park harness racing. Denis Wilson says Stephen Ward was on Gaelic Uprising when he had a heart attack and fell over. Kevin Thompson was calling it and saw something was very wrong. Nicole Kraft says they have a gap that he fell in. A rider races over, grabs the horse as Steve falls away and is ridden over by 4 other horses. Other riders are thrown, Steve had no heartbeat, his heart stopped again. He survived and was kicked along, didn’t get the full weight of the horses on him. Everyone raced again. Quick - Berkley, CA 2/3/89 - Nate Hubbard & Sweetwater Oak race on a muddy track and the horse stumbles and Nate is thrown in front of the horse and holds on around his neck. Val Brinkerhoff says the horse has a thick neck. They came in second. Kenner, LA - Jefferson Downs racetack. Ronnie Daigrepont races Tudor Gold and hits another horse, he’s thrown and the horse behind him slams on his head. Vickie Daigrepont his stepmom worked there and was watching. Carl Daigrepont says he was in a coma bleeding out his ear, eye and had head injuries. Their feet caught and he was pulled down. He was in a coma 18 days, lost his sight, hearing, couldn’t walk, talk and has ringing in his head, lost a vocal cord and had no memory. #208. 2/8/09 |
| Pilot Whale Attack | Queensland, Australia - at the zoo a crocodile named hot lips attacks when they movie her to save her eggs. In a deathroll she breaks Charlie Finn's wrist, elbow & hand instantly. Kona, HI - Lisa Costello and Dr. Lee Teeply dive with pilot whales and she is pulled down 30 feet without air before the whale shoots her back to the surface saving her. Los Angeles, CA - Sharon Varnes rides Twister the horse and falls into a tight crag with the horse on her. Dr. David Wheat says they go into trauma fast. Ardeshir Radapour AKA Tommy Trojan helped pull the horse off her. FD Barry Sears says it was manpower to lift it. They slide her out, but the horse is still stuck. They hook it to a harness and a chopper pulls it out after 5 hours. Stevie Norman her owner says she was having problems with the sedative. Sharon and Twister both survived with minor injuries. The zebra gets up and the lion stays clamped on the neck. Kathy Suthard says they have teeth for cutting. The zebra goes back down with the upside down lion holding on. The zebra spins around, jumps and kicks at the lion and the lion gets a foot, but it gets away. Quick - 8/9/99 - a black bear attacks a car, breaks in the window and climbs in. Lynn Rogers Phd says they like the foam in the seats, it breaks down and smells like ants. It wanted fries. Monterey Co. CA - Mark Jeannette films a flood in Watsonville as they evacuate. FD Gerry Glass goes in the river looking for a man. FD Tom Wiley says it's usually dry, but it's full of trees. The man is found, but then a puppy is found in the river. | Gator Tricks Gone Bad | San Adrian, Spain - during the running of the bulls Pilar films a bull attacking Jose Antonio Elizadale & Juan Jose Sandoval. They stand behind a board and the bull goes by and comes back and smashes into Juan. Dennis Borba says the horns will attack anything. They pull it’s tail, but it still keeps hitting him. They throw a board and another bull comes by and distracts him. He was bit and gored in the arms and legs. He survived, thought he could hold him back. He should’ve stayed down. Orlando, FL - at Gatorland Chester is the biggest, baddest gator they have. Michael Womer says he has no fear. He’s eaten dogs. Mike Hileman is a wrangler who likes him. Kenny Danberry also works there. He does the pop, smacking the bottom of the mouth. Marco Zeno wanted him to teach it. He reaches in and it bites down on his hand because he hit the tongue. He got out all cut up and damaged. They outlawed the pop after. Lomita, CA - Stavan Cook finds his dog Cess pinned between 2 walls 7 inches apart at his house. Firemen Angel Montoya & Reginald Lee came to rescue her. They make a hole and have to saw the concrete wall. It’s tough rebar that takes 4 hours to cut. | The Moaning Cowboy | Nashville, TN - Cory Melton rides the bull Happy Jack. Greg Potter tied him up and knew it was bad when his feet went out. He was spinning around like a propeller, then hit him in the face with a horn, hit him again, then he gets caught in the rope and throws him. The bull dances around him and he can’t move because his brain was jarred. All he does is moan loudly. He has a severe concussion, lost teeth, blackened both eyes. He was knocked out and woke up in the doctor’s office. He did ride Happy Jack again and has one of his kids. Forbes, Australia - harness racing. Mick Rattenbury says they race close, no room for error. Bill Palmer was calling it. She’s a Problem takes the lead, jumps, falls and takes down everyone behind him. Terry Hush says it was the worst accident he’s seen. One man is left trying to stop a lone horse. Rosemary Lee says 8 people were down when they got there. A rubber pole fell and it tried to jump it. Doug Lee was thrown and shows where he was. Every horse was OK, only 3 jockeys were hurt with minor injuries. Peter David won. Port Elizabeth, South Africa - Mark Dixon & Amanda Judson go the big park and a herd of elephants comes to drink. A baby calf in the pack gets turned around and falls in the water. It gets stuck in the muddy embankment and can’t get out. The mother tries to scoop it out with her trunk, but he’s too wet. It tries to swim out. John Lehnhart says they might have to leave it. They are close to their babies and calling for help. A big one pushes another elephant into the water to help. The mother also goes in to help push him to the shallow end and onto land. | Catapulted Horse Racer | Jerome, ID - annual chariot races. Monty Arrossa won and was watching. Linda Giltner was filming Gene Colter as his chariot was falling apart and then the horses step on the tongue which catapults him 40 feet and he slams into the hard ground. He had no safety straps. His arm had to be sewed on, he had organ damage and was out a year. Chengdu, China - Li Desheng runs the Wolong panda reserve. Ronald Swaisgood helps breed them. Pat Capito went there from the US and films it as a 7.9 earthquake hits. Liu Guan says it was like the end of the world. Boulders flatten the place and the bears have to be rescued. The only road out is blocked and they have to climb over rocks on a bridge. Gao Qaing ran to get the babies that were trapped. One goes in a tree and won’t come down. Aftershocks hit and after 3 days rescuers arrived. 53 pandas are moved, 1 was killed. Lanslevillard, France - Betrand Roche paraglides around the world. Nelson the Labrador flies with him. During the Tour de France Marcus Burghardt from Germany was doing bad, then Nelson walked in front of him and he hit him at 30mph and flipped over. The front wheel was destroyed. The dog was crossing to Nathan Bernier. Phil Ligget was announcing and couldn’t believe it when the wheel bent in half. The dog got up and walked away. He was taken to the hospital and was OK. San Diego, CA - Ron & Valerie Taylor swim with sharks and feed them. One bites her leg through the wetsuit and she beats it off. She had a huge gash and was airlifted to a hospital. They invent a suit made of chain mail mesh. Darrin Cutler says it’s like the ones worn by knights of old. Mark Heighes chums the water thinking they are crazy. Queensland, Australia - she wears the suit and straps dead fish to her arms to attract them. A small reef shark bites on her arm and won’t let go. She covers her face and waits for it to stop. It worked and she was OK. The leg injury still bothers her in her 70s. Quick - Spain - a bull runs from a bullfighting ring and hops the 2 barricades, goes through the stands and over a 40 foot wall. He lands on a car and keeps going. Santa Barbara, CA - a humpback whale beaches itself. Ski Laniewicz & Ed Stetson go to rescue it. They have to throw water on it. Bernardo Alps says the skeleton can’t support it. Peter Howorth hooks a rope on it’s tail to tow it out, but it weights 45 tons and is stuck in the sand. Exxon lends them a tow boat, but they have to dig a moat for it. They pull and it doesn’t move. A second boat is brought in to make waves to help loosen it.
