The Smiths, Mozart, Willie Nelson, Jimmy Hendrix, Jeff Buckley, Bob Dylan. Such artists today are not in abundance and unfortunately the world of music today is not quite as diverse as it once was. Record companies have been losing money for quite sometime now and have been trying to make up for that loss with a variety of different tactics. A side effect of this grab for money has unfortunately had a negative impact for artists almost all over the world. For the most part, the days where musicians and bands are given time to grow and develop their sound under a major record company are gone and that is the sole reason for this site's existence.
~theunderground~ is a site dedicated to the development of blossoming artists because we, like hundreds of thousands of other people out there, believe in the strength of music to influence and create culture. Due to this belief we are of the opinion that if attempts are not taken to give artists a sense of direction and individuality, it could have rather large effects on cultures in many different parts of the world. We hope that by interviewing and understanding the musical and learning and creation process that different artists have gone through, it will help lead young aspiring artists towards finding their own voices.
While the site will mainly be directed towards musicians, there will also be a portion of the site dedicated to artists and writers also for the exact same purpose. Hopefully in the future this part of the site will be able to grow, but as of now, due to a lack of resources and time it will remain a side part of ~theunderground~.
