KNEE JERK
Knee Jerk Reaction was created a few years ago in Fort Collins, CO by Steven Garcia, Jeff T. and Dirt. Dirt bailed kinda early so lets just pretend Damon was the first drummer. Steven had just left an established band called Armchair Martian. Jeff had tried to fill Steve's spot as bass player with the Martians, but as the slot was filled, he was directed to Steve. Damon was at the wrong place at the wrong time and they formed the band Knee Jerk Reaction. After getting some songs together, putting out a 7", getting featured on a My Records compilation (Happy Meals Vol. 2) and sending around a demo, they where signed by an independent record label called Knot Known Records. These guys released Knee Jerk's debut full-length CD titled Modern Pop Rockets in 1999. It was around this time that Damon left and was replaced by Ty. After several months and one tour, Ty left the band about five weeks before a second tour was to begin. Fortunately, it didn't take long to find Iowa Steve Zea, who, after practicing for only two weeks, was able to play the songs well enough. They hit the road and things went smoothly. So they kept him. Sometime around here they found out some sucky white-boy funk band was using the same name, so like our primate ancestors losing the prehensile tail, they got rid of the prehensile "Reaction." By this time, some new songs were written, so they went into the studio and layed down the new tracks. Then Jeff was abducted by aliens and had to be replaced by Clint, whose pants where abducted by aliens. He still wears Jeff's old ones to this day. Clint, by the way, only joined after his former band Bring fell apart. He did gain a dog in the deal. And a trip to Vegas. After a few months of reworking, Cruel & Unusual was ready to go. And so was Zea. This is when Mike casually strolled into town, sat down at the drums and made them all look bad. Mike "the pain from Wayne" Lindau played like a pro, sang like a bird and drove like a maniac. He also received a free trip to Vegas in the deal. For the first time in years, things actually look somewhat stable. Shows are being booked and Knee Jerk is actually showing up to play them. Wonders never cease.
