“How do we know thing this will work?” Will asked eying the large mechanic thing in the center of the room. It was morning now and they had found one of the transport devices Collin had spoken of. Collin sighed touching the controls.
“Look, I’ll show you, you set this here to this base- we have to go to a south Hailian base right next to the great wall-”
“What?” Tella asked pushing Will aside and moving to the front. “What are you talking about? We can’t just go to Avrai?”
“No. I told you,” Collin said, “All bases and transports inside Area are restricted and only generals and higher have those codes, to prevent people like us from breaking into Area.”
“Jeez, don’t they think their huge stupid wall they build on their borders would be enough?” Tella asked. Collin shook his head.
“In Area they are very paranoid about outsiders getting in.”
“Yeah yeah, so this base, will it be inhabited?”
“Yes. Its one of the Hailian bases still in use and it’s a rather large one. But they don’t keep it fully staffed.” Collin said. “So it should be easy to rout ourselves into a back storage room where no one will see us and then make our escape… But it’ll be risky…”
“Of course.”
“So who will go first?” the wanderer asked.
“Who ever it is needs to be prepared to maybe not come back.” Collin said. “This thing hasn’t been used in a long time and we don’t know who will be at the other end.”
“I thought you said this thing was safe!” Will protested.
“I vote we send Will.” Tella said.
“T-Tella! That’s so cruel!” Will said drawing his shoulders up. “I mean, I’m just getting over the whole drainage pipe thing- I don’t think I need this!”
“I’ll go.” Demus said stepping foreword.
“No!” Tella protested, “You the brawn of our group! You’re our main fighter, at least physically, I bet you have good magic too so we can’t lose you…”
“I’m… The brawn?” Demus asked distastefully.
“And your not going either Wanderer,” Tella continued, “Cause your so important, we don’t even know what your purpose is.”
“Oh… Thanks…” the wanderer said sighing.
“And Collin can’t go cause we aren’t taking the chance of sending the only person who knows how to work these controls off to be killed and abandon us back here in Iyokia… So Will, you’re going!”
“Well, why won’t you go?” Will asked. “Don’t tell me just because you’re a princess you get to exempt out of dangerous stuff.”
“No way, I’m just… Too valuable. I’m our main magic user.”
“I think that would be Collin.” Demus said in a low voice.
“Well, one of our main magic users then! The point is that I’m need, so you go Will! Come on, we all believe in you!” Will glared at her and groaned. He knew he’d do it… He couldn’t very well explain why he was valuable. He could feel Fairien laughing.
Shut up. You’re in this with me.
That seemed to sober Fairien up enough to stop laughing.
“Alright. I’ll do it. But if I die I’m going to haunt you all for the rest of your lives! And very mean and unhappy and terrible things will happen to all of your ancestors!… I mean, your descendants…! Well, all of them! So… there!” Will spouted.
“Right right. Hurry up.” Tella said pushing Will onto the platform.
“Alright I’m inputting the codes…” Collin said a glass case slide down from the ceiling trapping Will inside.
“Hey… This is…” Will started.
“In three, two…” Collin said.
“D-Didn’t you guys say this thing was to transport cargo?” Will asked panicky, “What if it doesn’t work on humans?” Will asked.
“One!”
“Hey!” Will cried as a small metal ring lifted up from the bottom of the platform and slide along the glass container, taking with it Will’s body.
“H-He’s gone!” the wanderer cried.
“Ok, Collin, you think you can bring him back?” Tella asked.
“Just a minute.” Collin said and worked at the controls a moment. Tella walked up behind him.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
“Nothing…” Collin said checking readings on the screen. “There’s just… some kind of strange energy build up in the system…”
“Well, bring Will back.” Tella said.
“Alright. Maybe that energy build up is just a standard thing when you transport people. I’ve never done this before.” Collin said. “Alright. I’m bringing him back now.” The metal ring slid down the glass container once more and with it came Will’s form. As soon as he was all the way back Will pressed his hands against the glass and demanded to be let out.
“That’s was really weird!” he shouted stepping out of the glass.
“Where did you go? Were there any Areans?” Tella asked. Will shook his head.
“It was dark but I think it was some kind of warehouse or storage building or something. Oh but it tingled like hel-”
“No cursing when kids are around.” Tella scolded. Will looked at her puzzled.
“But Collin curses! So why can’t I? I am a sailor you know.” He said.
“I’m not a child!” Collin growled.
“Oh…” Tella said smiling, “So you don’t like to be called a little boy? Hmm?”
“Watch it princess or I might accidentally mess up the coordinates when you’re transporting and land you in the middle of another base where there are lots of Areans…”
“Ha! You better watch it-” Tella began.
“Stop this.” Demus said wearily, “You’re acting like babies.”
“She’s the one being a baby.” Collin grumbled. Demus glared at him.
“Then don’t argue with her.” He said and turned away. Tella smiled deviously and stuck out her tongue at Collin. He growled and stuck out his tongue at her in return.
“So then we’ll all go now?” the wanderer asked. Demus nodded.
“I suppose so, if certain members of our party will try to be mature then maybe we can proceed.”
“Mm… I’ll set the coordinates. Then we can all go at once. It will be a lot easier that way.”
“Will it work like that?” Tella asked. Collin smiled realizing that despite Tella’s bravado she was quite nervous.
“Well, we won’t know until we try.” He said smiling evilly, and bounding for a chamber. Tella flinched only momentarily before sticking her nose in the air and following him to a near by chamber. The wanderer and Demus each found a chamber and stepped into it.
“Eee… I don’t like this…” Will complained as he stepped into the last chamber.
“Alright here we go.” Collin said as the metal bars clicked and began moving upward over the glass chamber.
Everything was dark. For a moment the wanderer wondered if the machine had worked. However, it wasn’t long before her fears were eased. Tella made a rude noise and pushed against the glass container.
“Why won’t it open?” Demus asked, pushing against his own container.
“These haven’t been used. They’re probably locked…” Collin said.
“L-Locked?” Will squeaked. “What do you mean? We can’t get out of these things?”
“Shut up!” Tella shouted.
“Please all of you be quiet.” The wanderer pleaded. “There could be people around. They’ll hear you!”
“Ugg… You people…” Collin twisted his arms up and lit a small explosion spell up in his hands.
“H-Hey… What-” Tella began.
“Collin Becarful.” Demus warned.
“I am.” Collin said. “Don’t worry.”
“But its glass, how will you… Without cutting-” Will began. “Oh!” he cried out watching as the glass around Collin’s hands heated so intently that it melted, dripping onto the floor like wax. The hole widened, larger and larger until it was large enough for Collin to wiggle out of. He let the spell die in his hand and waited for the glass to cool, which it did quickly, before exiting his container. He stood smiling at the others.
“Well?” he asked grinning.
“Get us out of here Collin.” Tella ordered. Collin stuck out his tongue.
“Can’t you all do it yourselves?” he asked.
“We could, but we can’t reach our staves to channel magic.” Tella said gritting her teeth.
“Oh… And I thought a talent like mine would never come in handy. But I guess it did. Too bad for you though.” Collin said.
“Come on Collin, let us out…” Will whined. Collin glanced at him in annoyance. He wanted to keep this game up as long as he could. It was amusing him.
“Come on Collin.” Demus said impatiently.
“Yes. Let’s get out of these things.” The wanderer said. “Is there some kind of switch out there?” Collin sighed. It was one thing to mess with Tella, but he wasn’t going to mess with the people who were civil to him.
“Alright.” He grumbled and began looking over the control switches. He noticed that luckily they had found their way into a warehouse that apparently wasn’t used much. That was good news for them, but they still had to get out of here and figure out exactly where they were. Collin let his fingers roam over the keys, flipping switches as he calmly pretended to know what their functions were.
“Yay!” the wanderer cheered as the glass cases hissed and slide up into the ceiling freeing them.
“Good, now we can-” Demus began but was cut off by a strange short bell sound.
<<DING! ALL LEVEL FOURS REPORT TO PLATFORM A. FESTIVITIES WILL COMMENCE UPON ARRIVAL. REPEAT-->>
“What’s that?” Tella gasped, looking around wildly for the source of the voice.
“Come out! Where are you?” Demus shouted.
“What’s going on?” Will asked confused more than the others, being the only one who could not understand Arean. Collin cursed.
“What’s today?” he asked suddenly.
“What do you mean, ‘what’s today?’” Tella asked, her voice slightly panicked.
<<… ALL MEMBERS OF GROUP 3256 PLEASE MEET WITH…>>
“Today? I-Its… I don’t know! We’ve been I the jungles for weeks probably, so how could we-”
<<…ADVANCEMENT DAY ACTIVITIES WILL COMMENCE IN FIVE MINUTES. ALL STAFF REPORT TO POSTS…>>
“Its Advancement day…” Collin groaned. “How could we-”
“What? What are you talking about?” the wanderer asked.
“It’s a holiday.” Collin said. “All the bases celebrate it but this base… I forgot… This base is holding the main ceremonies this year… I completely forgot… I thought it wasn’t for weeks to come…”
“You idiot!” Tella shouted. Collin turned on her angrily.
“Don’t call me an idiot! You know about Advancement day too!” he shouted. Tella scowled at this.
“What are you saying?” Will asked. “So what if there is a ceremony! Hey! That’s probably better! That means all the guards will be distracted! Right?”
“… No..” Collin said. “It means the security around here will be even tighter.”
“Areans are so paranoid.” Tella said.
“With good reason.” Collin grumbled. “We have to deal with people like you.”
“So what should we do?” the wanderer asked.
“We need to get out of here.” Demus said. “Once we get out of this base, the Arean wall won’t be much farther south and then we’ll be in Area.”
“Area…” Will said softly. “It’s going to get a lot harder once we’re in Area… Won’t it?”
“You have no idea.” Tella said pausing. She wanted to once again attempt to get Will to stay behind but she pushed it aside, realizing that that was something that could be dealt with later. Collin moved to the door of the storehouse.
“We are in the center of the base.” He told them. “Most everyone will be down at the main holding area… That’s where they’ll have the entertainment and stuff but there will be guards at every exit and entrance…”
“Do you think we could blend in?” the wanderer asked. The others looked at her silently in distaste. She blushed and looked away. “Apparently not.” She said quietly.
“What can we do…” Tella mused gazing out at the already formidable crowd of Areans.
<<ALL MUSICIANS REPORT BEHIND THE STAGE AREA>> the voice from above said.
“M-Musicians?” Tella asked smiling.
“Musicians…” Demus mused.
“What are you guys thinking?” Will asked.
“This will NOT work!” Will protested. “None of us can even play musical instruments!”
“Speak for your self!” Tella growled. “Some of us have class. I can play the guitar.”
“I play the saxophone.” Demus said.
“I play piano.” Collin offered.
“But… But…!” Will sputtered. “I can’t-”
“And I can’t play anything either…” the wanderer said.
“Then you can sing!” Tella said turning away, “Come on, all of you!” Tella said striding you into the daylight, heading for what she thought was probably the stage area. Everyone followed, unable to do anything else.
“Tella!” the wanderer hissed. “What are you doing! We’ll be-”
“Excuse me!” a voice shouted in Arean. Will froze and gazed behind him. Tel stopped and turned around casually as an Arean guard walked up their group.
“Who are you?” he asked. Tella blinked innocently.
“Oh, we’re here to play for the concert.” She said in fluent Arean.
“You’re musicians?” he asked. She nodded. Collin glanced at him, noticing that this guy was a newby by his ranking badges on his uniform. A shame to put someone like him in charge…
“Alright.” The guard said. “Move quickly to the stage area.”
“Jeez, he didn’t even ask for any identification.” Collin grumbled as soon as the guard was out of earshot.
“Hey you sound disappointed.” Tella chided him as they found their way back stage.
The guard mean while was having nagging doubts. He called his commander up on his intercom and reported the group he had run into.
“…But Sir, they looked like criminals.” He said. The commanding officer paused and then began to laugh.
“Ric, all musicians look like criminals.” He said and ended the transmission. The rookie sighed and accepted his senior’s judgment.
There was a large stage area and out beyond it were countless seats, now filling up with Arean soldiers off duty. Mahito yawned and gazed over the crowd from the high box that he and another General sat in.
“… Very pleased to have you here Mahito to celebrate Advancement day. Wonderful holiday.” The general was prattling on. Mahito sighed very quietly, trying to endure his companion. He avoided the other generals whenever he could, but sometimes he was given no choice.
“Strange, wasn’t it? You heard didn’t you? About the reactor that blew up in Iyokia, at least, they think it was a reactor, some kind of huge energy burst set everything off-”
“Yeah. Heard about that.” Mahito said dully. Could this idiot just shut up and let him think?
“… Say, Mahito, any breaks in that mission you’ve been working on?” the general asked. Mahito stifled a glare and replied coldly.
“Not yet.”
“Goodness! You’ve never been stuck on one mission this long! My my, you’ll have to hurry if your to keep your reputation up. And wasn’t this mission a rather easy one? What? Killing some Betamian delinquents? Bringing in some of them for questioning? Something like that?” the general asked.
“Something like that.” Mahito replied.
“So why has it taken so long? Did you lose them?”
“… I’m sure I’ll find them again soon.” Mahito said. “They can’t hide forever.”
“… Of course not. You’ll find them. I have full faith in you my friend!” the general laughed. Mahito glanced at him in distaste, trying to suppress murderous thoughts. He wasn’t just angry with the other general. He was angry with himself. How could he have lost them? How could they have evaded him for this long? After he had last seen them, Mahito had assumed they would go south towards Area and sure enough, he had found a trail leading south. However after a few days of tracking Mahito realized that he was following a false trail. A false trail made by Hailians. How he despised that race! They always had some freakish way of helping each other. He remembered that Hailian man that Collin and Tella had been with. It must have been him, or friends of his, that left that false trail. He didn’t know how, but Hailian magic was a strange thing to him so it didn’t surprise him that it eluded him.
He had thought he could use the signal from Collin to find them. All apprentices emitted a signal that could be picked up by various scanners and keypads. Mahito even had one of these scanners, however, Collin was putting out no signal. Mahito pondered this, wondering how that was possible, and also how it was possible that Collin had recovered from the paralysis Mahito had given him when they met in the clearing.
“He must have a keypad of his own…” Mahito mused quietly.
“What?” the general beside him asked. Mahito shook his head.
“Nothing.” He answered. But how would Collin get a keypad? Maybe Bran had given it to Collin. There was another one Mahito despised. Collin’s master, Bran Wilhelm had caused him quite a lot of trouble- not that it ever amounted to anything. But still. Bran had tried his best to bring Mahito’s career crashing down. The vengeful little rat might have given Collin his keypad… But Mahito somehow found that doubtful. However, that was the only way Collin could have recovered from the paralysis, and now hide his signal. Mahito sighed and tried to pay attention to the ceremonies. The musicians would be performing next. He liked music.
“We go on next!” Tella whispered.
“We can’t do this! We can’t do this!” Will whispered frantically.
“Stop panicking! Of course we can!” Tella said. “All we’ve got to do is perform one song and then get out of here. Once we’ve preformed they’ll let us leave.”
“But… All those Areans will see us.” The wanderer said, “What if they recognize us?”
“They won’t!” Tella said. “Look, all the Areans are looking for are me and the wanderer and they have no pictures!”
“They’ll have pictures of you!” Will said, “You’re the princess of Betamy!”
“Yeah but right now I don’t look like the princess of Betamy!” Tella said smiling.
“What if they recognize Collin?” Demus asked.
“Hey, excuse me!” one of the other musicians called to them to Arean, “You guys wanted to borrow instruments, right?”
“Y-Yeah!” Tella called. “Sorry! Security wouldn’t let us bring in ours!”
“Weird. They should have.” One of the other musicians said. “Well, you can use ours. Just be careful.”
“Of course! Thank you!” Tella said taking a guitar for herself.
“There’s a piano on the stage already and here you go…” the musician handed the other instruments.
“Umm…” the wanderer started. “I-I can’t sing.” Tella blinked at her.
“Not at all?” she asked. The wanderer flinched and shook her head.
“Sorry.” She said. “Maybe I can play the triangle?” the wanderer asked sadly picking up the little metal instrument. Tella nodded and turned to Will.
“Well, then you’ll just be the singer then.” She said.
“B-But! Hey, I can’t sing either!” he said.
“Yes you can.” Tella insisted. “I’ve heard you.”
“W-What? When?!” Will asked.
“On the boat. You’d sing or hum to yourself when you would work.” Tella said.
“That- That’s different!!” Will shouted.
“Well, it doesn’t matter, cause…” Tella paused as an announcer spoke over the microphone. “That’s us! Let’s go everyone! And wanderer, try and hit that triangle on the right beat!”
“R-Right…”
“Oh no…” Will moaned. “I can’t do this! I can’t…”
“Stop whining.” Collin said.
“Collin,” Demus said, “Stay hidden behinds us when we walk on stage, and when you get to the piano stay down low, so no one can see your face.” Collin nodded to this. He didn’t think anyone would recognize him but he guessed it wasn’t a bad idea to be careful. Demus sighed, thinking of the report he had read back in the Arean base. If the report was true, Collin was a wanted criminal… And people would be on the look out for him.
The crowd cheered as they walked out on the stage. Tella smiled and waved, taking up her guitar. Will nervously moved to microphone, looking at it as though it was going to eat him.
“One two three!” Tella yelled and struck a cord and the song was on. They didn’t do too badly, considering they had never played together before and didn’t know what song Tella was going by. Collin and Demus joined in when they recognized the song and the wanderer cautiously hit the triangle when she thought it was appropriate. Will gritted his teeth, realizing that the vocal part was coming up.
Fairien, you can’t sing can you?
…You’re on your on Will, Fairien said.
Aaaaah! What good are you?!
I don’t know, but you better sing… NOW! Fairien told him. Will whimpered silently and took a deep breath.
“These dark ocean waves move me, farther and farther away,” Will sang. Tella flinched, realizing that Will was speaking in Betamian free trade language and not in Arean. Come to think of it, Will was the only one in the group who couldn’t speak Arean… What a choice for singer! But the audience didn’t seem to notice or mind. They all could speak this language and luckily it didn’t seem odd to them.
“I want to be with you to see, the path of a fresh new day,” Will sang.
This is such a lame song… Fairien said. Couldn’t you all do a better one?
Shut up! I’m trying to concentrate! Will thought at him. Fairien sighed in boredom.
Collin’s fingers moved along the keyboard, gracefully hitting cords and adding complexity to the song as Tella strummed complementing cords and picked the main tune. Demus brought in his saxophone as the song picked up speed and catchiness and the wanderer hit the triangle to the beat.
“But that day seems so far… I dare not even hope to think, when I might show myself, to you! Don’t blink!” Will sang quickly. His voice wasn’t bad and fit the song nicely.
“Don’t blink! Cause you’ll be gone! Don’t blink! I want you in my arms! Don’t blink! Here with me! I want to stay like this forever!” Will sang happily. Collin smiled, picking up the speed, enjoying himself. He glanced out over the audience, seeing their faces smiling up at them. Collin smiled and let his gaze wander from face to face until…
Collin hit the wrong cord. His hands went cold and tingly as he tried to keep up to the music.
Mahito!
He moved his eyes back to the keyboard and tried to concentrate on the music. What was he doing here?! And and… Collin knew Mahito would have recognized them by now but… Collin let his eyes light once more on Mahito. Mahito was smiling. Not evilly or cunningly… Just smiling pleasantly as though he were enjoying the music. Maybe he hadn’t recognized them but… No! That was stupid! Of course he had! Had he alerted everyone yet? They had been on the stage for a while now and no guards had pounced on them. And Mahito was making no move. What was he playing at? Collin had to let the others know somehow… They had to get out of here as fast as they could before Mahito’s capriciousness wore off and he decided to capture them. Mahito blinked and turned his gaze slightly, staring into Collin’s eyes. Collin gasped, trying not to hit the wrong cord again as Mahito’s gaze froze him. Mahito smiled and lifted a finger to his lips, as though to tell him to be quiet. Then Mahito turned his eyes back to Will and watched the performance.
Collin moved his foot slightly and kicked Demus’s leg. Demus had been standing close by, hiding him from the audience for the most part. Demus opened his eyes and glanced at Collin. Collin mouthed the word, “Mahito”. Demus blinked, catching on and at the same time catching sight of Mahito himself. Mahito however, was ignoring them. Demus likewise, knocked his elbow into the wanderer’s back, which set her beat off. Luckily no one noticed the triangle’s absence.
“Mahito’s here. Warn Tella.” Demus whispered into her ear. The wanderer stiffed and nodded, then slowly began to make her way over to Tella. Tella saw her and glared at her not to move but the wanderer looked panicky and turned to look out at the crowd. Tella followed her eyes and at once saw Mahito. She nodded and began to bring in the ending of the song. The audience never noticed the communication on stage. Most of them were too intent on Will as he sang on.
“…Safe with you, the light from your eyes, show the future in their surreal gleam…” Will sang as his friends hit their last notes and bowing politely left the stage. Will however, failed to notice their departure. The applause came, long and loud. Will grinned and waved, cheering himself.
Mahito stood up. The other general glanced at him.
“Excuse me general, it was a wonderful show but I must be going now.” Mahito said politely. “I’ll see you soon.”
“Ah… yes well, we haven’t had the feast yet… Don’t you want to stay and eat?” he asked. Mahito shook his head.
“Oh no, that’s alright, though I do wish I could stay. Good bye and thank you for your hospitality.”
“Well, good bye Mahito. See you soon!” the general called as Mahito left.
“Thank you! Thank you!” Will shouted happily as the audience applauded.
Will! Get going! Fairien hissed in his mind. Will blinked at Fairien’s tone.
“Jeez, sorry.” He muttered. “What’s with you?”
You’re friends Will! They’re gone! Fairien shouted at him. Will turned, seeing that he was on stage alone. He smiled to the audience again as they laughed at him and he ran off stage cheerfully. Backstage, Will couldn’t find his friends.
“W-Where did they go?!” he asked frantically.
Mahito is here Will! You’ve got to get out of here! Fairien told him.
“Ah! T-They left me! That’s really cold!!” Will whined. How could they?
It doesn’t matter, their ahead, come on, run! Fairien urged him. You can still catch up!
They were approaching the gate. The guards glanced up at their rapid approach so Tella slowed her pace, as did the others.
“Great performance!” one of the guards called. “I saw it over the screen.”
“You leaving so soon? What if you’ve won the contest? Don’t you want to be there?”
“Nah, we’ve got another gig anyway.” Tella said smiling disarmingly.
“Oh I see. Well, lets see your admit card.” The guard said. Tella only hesitated one moment, while behind her, her companions tried not to flinch.
“Sure, one second.” Tella said pulling her bag around and began to rifle through it. “Hmm… I knew it was here… Where did it go…?” she looked up and smiled again innocently. “Sorry, can’t find it.”
“Well, then you cannot leave until you do.” The guard said frowning.
“Oh come on, you know we’re musicians!” Collin said. The guard glanced at him and looked back at Tella, about to answer when his eyes moved back to Collin and he froze.
“Alek! Dun!” he called to his companion, “It’s the criminals! Look, its that wanted apprentice!” Tella cursed and pulled out her staff aiming at them. The wanderer in a panic summoned her staff, hoping the strange glow would be enough to frighten the guards away but they only stared at her oddly. Demus too drew his sword.
“Fire ball!” Collin shouted firing a ball of flames at the guards. They jumped in surprise, not expecting someone without a weapon to fire magic, but they recovered quickly, pulling out their guns and aiming them at the group.
“Don’t move, or you will all die!” the guard shouted.
“Huh, right! Smoke! Tella shouted and almost instantly the air filled with black fog. “Run! This way!” Tella called as they heard the guard cursing and shooting blindly into the fog.
“I can’t see!” the wanderer called.
“Well run!” Demus shouted from inside the fog. The wanderer cried out as she felt someone bump into her back and then push her to the left.
“Run!” the person said. The wanderer took off running, instinctually. Likewise did Tella. Collin had already found his way out and was running past the gate, with Tella and the wanderer not far behind.
“Go on!” someone said as they bumped into Demus. “This way!”
“Are you sure that’s the way, Will?” Demus asked, stumbling foreword. There was a slight pause and then.
“Yes, run! Go!” he called. Demus barreled foreword, managing to avoid the shots fired blindly into the smoke and emerged on the other side of the gate, following Tella, the wanderer and Collin.
Well, they had almost pulled it off, Fairien reflected. They might have even gotten away by themselves, if the guard hadn’t had guns. All he’d had to do was stop a few bullets and heard the group toward the exit and keep the guard relatively away from them. They would be alright. But now he had to deal with a bigger problem.
Will.
Do you think… ha… They’ll… ha… Follow us?” the wanderer panted as they ran.
“We’re putting as much distance between us and them!” Tella shouted.
“Yeah but… Hey!” the wanderer stopped and looked back, “Where’s Will?”
“What?” Tella turned around and stared at Collin, Demus and the wanderer. They stared back blankly.
“He was with us in the fog…” Demus said.
“Are you sure?” Tella asked. “I don’t remember him… being with us…”
“He’s…” Collin turned and looked back toward the base. “We… left him…?”
“I… Guess we did… But I was sure he was with us...” Demus said.
“We have to get him!” the wanderer said stepping back toward the base.
“Wait!” Tella shouted. “We can’t go back! If we go back we’ll just put him in more danger!”
“Yeah, but if we don’t do something the Areans will kill him if they find him, if they don’t already have him! They know he was with us!” the wanderer protested.
“Why did you have to say anything!” Tella shouted at Collin, “This is all your fault!” Collin glared up at her.
“It is not! You must have done something to-”
“Shut up both of you! Do you want your bickering to be the cause of Will’s death?!” Demus shouted, showing anger for the first time. Tella and Collin blinked in sheepish silence. “… Come. Let’s go back and see if we can’t get him out of there.”
Everyone nodded in silence and they turned around.
“I don’t see why I have to hide, why can’t I run? I mean, I mean I have to get out of-”
Will don’t talk out loud. I can hear you fine. You have to hide here for a minute just be quiet. Fairien said to him. Will frowned and peeped out from his hiding place behind a few boxes in the back corner of one of the many warehouses.
“But… But someone will find me here.” He whispered.
They… Their going into the woods, I’ve gotten them that far and hopefully they’ll keep going for a while… Ah! Fairien cursed, realizing that Will’s friends were now heading back toward the base. They must have noticed Will wasn’t with them and were now trying to rescue him.
Never mind. I’ll be
right back. I have something to take care of.
Be quiet and stay here! Fairien shouted back at him.
Okay… Will said shifted back behind his box and hoped that he wouldn’t be found.
Notes:
Whew… I’m not a songwriter. -_-‘ Sorry the song sucked so bad… If I have another song, I’ll try and make it better…
Haha…. Love the part about all musicians looking like criminals… Haha…
Oh well, stay tuned… Some weird stuff is about to happen….
