Westlife
Westlife are one of the most famous boy bands ever, along with Take that and Boyzone. They have so far had 9 hits which have all gone into the top 2, 8 of those debuting at no.1. Their first 7 songs all went to no.1-in order they are: Swear it again, if I let you go, flying without wings, I have a dream/seasons in the son, fool again, against all odds (a duet with Mariah Carey) and my love.
This was followed up by the no.2 hit-what makes a man which was beaten to the Christmas no.1 spot by Bob the builder. The band were previously co-managed by the lead singer of Boyzone-Ronan keating. There are 5 members of Westlife, Shane, Bryan, Kian, Mark and Nicky. Although what makes a man only reached no.2, it was one of their biggest selling hits.
Their biggest selling hit was their ninth hit, a cover of uptown girl by Billy Joel, the song returned to no.1 in March of 2001. It became one of the biggest selling hits of the year and knocked the year's best selling single, it wasn't me by shaggy off the top spot. The band released two albums. Their debut album, which is called Westlife, entered at two in 1999 but went on to sell well over a million. This was helped by a huge price reduction on one week when it re-entered the charts at no.3.
The second album coast-to-coast beat the spice girls to no.1 in a huge chart battle. It sold over 3 times as many copies in its first week. The band look set to become one of the world's biggest selling bands of all time, already having broken countless records. They returned after a slow year in October 2001 with the ballad queen of my heart which also featured a song off coast-to-coast-an uptempo song-when you're looking like that which the video featured the band in a live concert. The single flew into the top spot, as did their third album, world of our own a week later.
