Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Sophie Ellis-Bextor started her music and chart career at an age of 17, when she fronted an indie band called theaudience. The daughter of former Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis, Sophie found chart success, but not as high as she might have hoped for. Although theaudience scored a top 10 album, and had two top 40 singles, their highest song only got to no.25 in the UK.

Sophie took a break from music, and then went to join dance act 7-foot tall Cristiano Spiller from Italy on an originally instrumental track-groovejet. Sophie added some vocals to the song, and they released it under the name Spiller feat Sophie Ellis-Bextor-groovejet (if this ain't love). The song flew into the no.1 spot almost everywhere in Europe and in the UK, famously beat Truesteppers feat Dane Bowers and Victoria Beckham-out of your mind to the top.

After the huge success of the half-million selling groovejet (if this ain't love), Sophie penned all the tracks for a new solo album of hers. The album, Read my lips was released in August 2001, and flew in to the UK top 5 album chart. In January 2002, it re-appeared and peaked at it's highest position of no.3.

The album spawned two hit singles Take me home and Murder on the dancefloor. Both songs got ton no.2 in the UK chart. Take me homes spent a month in the top 10. Murder on the dancefloor had five weeks in the top 5. Two weeks at no.2 one week before christmas and one week after christmas. The song became her biggest hit and appeared in the best-sellers list for 2001 and 2002.

In June 2002, Sophie returned with the top 3 hit get over you-a brand new track, and a track off the album, move this mountain. The song peaked at no.3 in the UK. She then re-released her album, Read my lips as a special edition with 3 extra tracks-get over you, groovejet (live) and The music gets the best of me. The track order was also slightly altered.
