Alcazar

Dance music is where creativity and innovation rules. But since DJs or temporary guest vocalists front most dance records, focus in the music business has primarily been on traditional rock bands or the boys' and girls' bands of current teen pop. Alcazar are set to bridge that gap by making innovative and eclectic dance music while also giving the audience a full-scale performance, a complete show. And they don't mind fronting their music! Alcazar was founded in 1999. Andreas Lundstedt was already a successful solo artist, Tess was director of a music theater company and Annikafiore ad just landed her first stage role, playing Frida in an Abba musical.

When Andreas was discussing with his producers Alexandra Bard and Anders Hansson what to do on his next record, where he had already decided to switch from Swedish to performing in English, the idea popped up that he should ask his colleagues and best friends Tess and Annikafiore to join him and form a band. Said and done, Alcazar was born, and only weeks later the band signed a deal with BMG Sweden. Alcazar has been described as a hybrid between disco and pop. This also becomes evident in their videos. To Alcazar fun and originality are more important in their visual style than the usual manipulative tricks. Scandinavia has produced an impressive number of pop acts beginning with a capital A.

Alcazar is the latest example in this great tradition. Possibly the most sophisticated of them all, and certainly the first to take its starting point in the current dance music revolution. Their upcoming album 'Casino' is an hour-long journey through contemporary dance music styles (Streets August 20th 2002).

Alcazar prove they can handle every style and make something personal out of each one of them. But Alcazar not only present a variety of music styles, held together by their tight vocals and multi-layered harmonies, but also cover a variety of issues in their highly original lyrics. The main theme is the lifestyles on the outskirts of the modern urban landscape. The milieu is the city by might and Alcazar is a city where thousands of things are going on simultaneously.
