Camp Poems and Songs
I Wanna Linger

Mmm, I wanna linger,
Mmm, a little longer.
Mmm, a longer here with you.
Mmm, it's such a perfect night.
Mmm, it doesn't seem quite right.
Mmm, that it should be my last with you.
Mmm, and come September,
Mmm, I will remember,
Mmm, my happy camping days with you.
Mmm, and as the years go by,
Mmm, I'll think of you and sigh,
Mmm, this is goodnight but not goodbye
Mmm, I wanna linger,
Mmm, a little longer,
Mmm, a little longer here with you.
Mmm, it's such a perfect night,
Mmm, it doesn't seem quite right,
Mmm, that is should be my last with you.
The Cruel War

The cruel war is raging,
And Johnny has to fight
And I long to be with him
From morning 'till night.
I long to be with him, it grieves my heart so,
Won't you let me go with you?
No my love no.

Tomorrow is Sunday and Monday is the day,
That your captain will call you
And you must obey.
Your captain will call you,
It grieves my heart so,
Won't you let me go with you?
No my love no.

I'll tie back my hair,
Men's clothing I'll put on and I'll pass as your comrade,
As we march along..
I'll pass as your comrade,
no one will ever know,
Won't you let me go with you?
No my love no.

Oh Johnny, oh Johnny
I think you are unkind,
for I love you for better,
Than all of mankind.
I love you for better,
Than words could ever express,
Won't you let me go with you?
Yes, my love, yes.

She tied back her hair,
Men's clothing she put on and she passed as his comrade,
As they marched along.
She watched him die slowly,
A bullet in his chest,
And she heard him cry softly,
Yes, my love, yes.
Love of Wapomeo
By: Liz Durrett

That sign. "Welcome to Camp Wapomeo" + Summer = Major butterflies.

As I arrive, I see the bright, neon sun that seems to smile at me through the trees.

I hear Lindsay's small, strong voice yelling, "GET BEHIND THE YELLOW LINE!"

The nasty dining hall food makes me want to hurl.

I love the smooth, warm lake when it rains, and love it at 7 am even though it's so cold you ache.

The wind running through my hair as I seem to dance in circles from the other team.

Kids yelling, laughing, splashing, and singing.

Campfires. 'Nuff said.

The comforting feeling of being in a group hug.

The strong smell of pine while hiking to Trout Point.

Land of the laughing birds,
Wapomeo, My second home.
GO BAAK!
BEST CIT'S TO LIVE AT WAPO!!!
By: Sarah Jane Maynard

Remember the summer 2001?
When the days were hot,
And the people were fun?
And the 10 CIT's were cool as can be,
With the boys in the lodge,
And the gals in McD.
Remember Steevie?
The hottest of boys,
With his trusty guitar,
And his doorknob hole joys.
Who was to compare, but big pimpin' Dan, with his Dagenheart rep,
And a beachball he ran.
And listen to this, "Hey, man, WHAT THE FUCK!?"
I'll bet that your guess,
Is more than just luck.
You guessed it! it's Ryan, who did stuff with paint.
And with panties so high,
We're surprised he didn't faint.
And our hippie friend Gabbie with a hip bow and arrow,
Who was chums with the bears,
And friends with the sparrows.
And what's that sound coming over the hills?
It's Dallet, our friend, with her loud upbeat trills.
A picnic or two made this girl very glad,
a picnic she shared,
With our good buddy Mads!
Oh Maddy, Maddy who kept up with the fads,
Who was very outspoken,
And said "Oh my GAD!"
With hoagies and sweatshirts and many boys' balls,
Maddy was mad,
When Michelle took a fall.
Oh Dudemagnet, she, who attracted the chaps,
And tackled and played,
'Till she fell in some gaps.
With a thump and an ouch she took a great tumble,
And being so brave,
She did not even mumble.
The cause of this fall was a puppy named Purdy,
The dog that took pee,
And perhaps a few turdies.
Kaleigh, you see, owned this stuffed bad luck dog,
She always was active,
While the rest were all grog.
And while all these peeps were all stressed out and busy,
One who never took sides t'was our young darling Lizzie.
And the young tortured victim of a treacherous past,
It is only normal to save the best for last.
The last of the ten is a young'n named Duckie,
Who played truth or dare,
And it turned out sucky.
So these are the CIT's 2001,
Who spent 4 weeks in the warm wapo sun.
