the break-up (part I)

blackness fell swiftly upon my whole world and me,
and i cried the trip home.
we had been inseparable and perfect
you, a convex to my concave
suddenly we were no more
broken pieces of a life
that was fading away

take your steps from me, i pleaded,
so i may move freely
but now, with nothing to hold
i am surprised to find i cannot walk.
my once fluid movements
are as stiff and shaky
as a colts first steps

i'm begging for release from you,
praying
for the chance to smile fondly of us
hoping questions that stir in me
will one day be stilled

but for now i'll remain in wonder
who will live in your shadow?
will another try to fit into your place?
fear, leave me
i want to love again.
