charlatan

i fell from the heavens to be with you, but found you in your
raging waters of doubt
you averted your eyes     a chilling breeze sends shivers up my spine
reminding me to act on my senses that tell me to

calling out to you, i find you
loathing me from your watery grave
i wade through your shallow pools of tears, cutting through the
          adversity that floats

on the surface
you feign a smile, pour your confusion out for me
offer me a drink, and foolishly, i lift it in a toast to the sin that
          claws at my ankles

into your sorrow,
i breathe in your despair that clings   like a robe  to your shoulders
lean back, look up and we're gone
and drops of regret fall from your eyes
that separate you

                                    from him.
