topic : how my night was saved by drunken strangers
date : april 24, 04
i have to thank four random drunk guys for rescuing my night. it started like this : i don't claim to be a good driver, but up until tonight, i've been a hell of a lucky one, and, save a few minor accidents, i've stayed mostly out of trouble. this evening, for the first time in my entire behind-the-wheel lifespan, i was pulled over, and ten minutes later, was driving off with two tickets in my hands and a cloud over my head ( yeah, not just one ticket, but two). i've been pulled over a number of times, but never, NEVER, gotten a ticket. anger. frustration. rage. i felt like pounding something. the night, as far as i was concerned, was ruined. but, i had passangers in my car who did not share my thinking, and since majority rules, i unhappily drove on. it was late already, and the city shuts itself down, even on the weekend, so we stopped at a 24-hour pancake house, sat and talked for a bit, and got back into murph (my car's name) to head for home. this is when i was rescued. still annoyed and distracted, i pulled, uknowingly, in between two cars full of college boys at a red light. after some yelling out their windows they got us to turn and look, wave, smile, wink and prepared to drive off and leave em in the dust, only, they were ready to play. the light turned green and i laid on the gas, only to get flanked on each side by screaming boys, flashing lights, and honking horns. we got mooned. we got kisses blown to us, as well as some various R-rated signals stuck out open windows. i laughed so hard i almost drove off the road. screw the police. the night had been redeemed. so, thank you, mustange. thank you, jeep. you made me smile, big.
