Report of Paper presented by Manjiree Gokhale The First International Conference on Consciousness, Theatre, Literature and the Arts was held in May 7-9, 2005, Aberystwyth, Wales, UK. It was organized by the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies. The conference Director was Dr. Daniel Meyer-Dinkgrafe.. My presentation was on 8th May between 2 - 4 pm. The title of my paper was Importance Of Yoga in Music Education. 61 papers were presented in parallel sessions. The conference was attended by 80 delegates from 14 countries. (like UK, USA, Japan, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Nigeria, Italy, India, etc.) Though there were 4 people of Indian origin, I was the only Indian, to represent as an Indian. Others were representing Universities of other countries. The conference proceedings will be published by Cambridge Scholars Press. Among other presentations and workshops, the ones I liked were - a workshop by Catherine Fitzmaurice, USA, on Chaos and Conscious Breathing; a presentation by Anthony Kubiak, USA, on Musical Interval and the Performance of the Unconscious and a Kudiyattam Performance by Arya Mahadevan, UK. All the delegates were very professional and mostly performers or in education field. My paper presentation was for 30 minutes 20 minutes for paper presentation and 10 minutes for questions and answers. I read the paper along with a power point presentation, and during presentation I had the electronic tanpura being played for the drone effect. Vikas Gokhale, my husband, was my demonstrator. The presentation was followed by an elaborate question and answer session. Also, I had an interaction on my subject with many delegates, later. The theme of my session was Music and Film. The chairperson of the session was Kevin Donnelly, UK. |
