Aim: The aim is for a group to prepare an improvisation gaining points for each correctly identified musical element. This game can also be played by individuals. It helps students to focus on a variety of musical elements which need to be considered when preparing an improvisation.

Rules

  1. Each individual or group chooses a card from each of the coloured stacks to use in their improvisation.
  2. Each team has an overview copy of all the cards for when they observe an improvisation.
  3. Each group creates an improvisation, which involves as many of the elements they can control and communicate.
  4. A 10-minute preparation time limit could be used.
  5. The teacher acts as a judge.

Scoring

  1. You win one point per element that you used correctly in your performance.
  2. The other team gains a point for each element that they guess correctly.
  3. A 10-minute preparation time limit could be used.
  4. Where there is time to spare more cards could be collected after the first improvisation is finished and another improvisation could be attempted.
