World Music

Study of world music should involve some research into the culture (including art, drama, mythical stories etc.) which are usually closely linked with the musical experience. Music as a natural and live every day event is quite a different experience from listening to music on CD or the radio.

African

TASK: Compose a piece based on polyrhythms similar to those used in Ghana.

BRIEF: You have been asked to provide music to be played at a display of African masks in the foyer or a school or college.

Indian Raga

TASK: Develop a known raga which starts slow and builds in speed and intensity

BRIEF:  Your task is to provide music for tourists on a scenic tour of a part of India by steam train.  (There are many steam train lines in India)

 

 

 

Culture Mix

TASK:  To create a composition combining musical elements from different world cultures.

BRIEF: Compose a piece of music to be performed at the Commonwealth Institute in London to celebrate the world of music. The music should combine elements from different musical cultures.
