The following clock shows the relationship between hte major and minor keys. It also shows the relationship between chords. The nearere the chords or keys the smoother is the move between them.
If your aim is to provide a shocking or dramatic shift in your composition then you would leap across the clock rather than move clockwise or anti-clock wise.
