Working in groups
There is a great deal written about this subject and it is not about to be repeated on this site. However, for those interested in exploring further or thinking about some of the issues, here are a few thoughts concerning group work and musical creativity.
Groups of 4-6 students.
Working on an imaginative project with between 4-6 people of equal status with a deadline is commonplace in the working world. It is equally so in the music classroom with limited resources and 27+ pupils. Success with a musical project does not only demand developing musical skills but also group working skills.
Employers value group working skills very highly and the music classroom is one of the best places for these skills to develop.
- leadership
- organiser
- imaginative testing
- supporter
The above skills are essential alongside the musical ones
Groups of 2 - 3 students.
This size of group can work around one keyboard. They can often achieve faster results with composing as there are not so many points of view to consider.
Working alone
Individual composing can be difficult without the constant trying out of ideas on others and the resultant feedback.
