Dear JC,
I know you want everything in your life to be perfect. Youre such a perfectionist when it comes to your music that its hardly surprising that this trait carries over into other areas of your life. And I would love nothing more than to be able to snap my fingers and have everything perfect for you (well, and myself too) all the time. Unfortunately, though, nothing in life is perfect, no matter how much we wish and how hard we try.
I know that youre waiting for someone special, and I know you want your life to begin and end with this person- and you want it to be extraordinary. Youve seen so many movies in your life, and I know that youre expecting, and wanting, your life to turn out just like one of those romantic comedies youre always making me watch with you. Where, after much drama and lingering sexual tension, the main characters get together, where its all sunshine and flowers, and where everyone who loves gets loved in return.
I love you.
I just wanted you to know.
After all this time, I really think you should know it.
After all this time, you probably do know it, at least on some level.
But, I can't wait forever. Ive been waiting for longer than you can imagine and probably longer than I should have. I don't think that you can see what has been standing right in front of you for so long now. And I dont know what more I can do to open your eyes.
I can't be perfect like the characters in those movies. I don't know how to do that. I don't know how to be anything other than me. It's the best I can do. Its all I can do. I dont know what else you want from me. You talk to me, confide in me. You tell me all of your hopes, your dreams, your fears, and your failures. Lovers may have come and gone, but Im always there for you, the same way that youre always there for me.
I was told once that the person you are supposed to be with is the one person that you just cant live without.
We tried living without each other once, remember how well that worked? As I recall, it didnt. At all.
What we have is simple, its real and that is why it works. Its not Hollywood, but its Home. You share your life with me, and I share mine with you.
You want your life to be just like a movie? Well, you may not have realized that youve been a part of a movie for some time now. Youve been in complete control of the entire production, directing the plot from beginning to end. But now, the rest of the cast is waiting for you to take your cue.
Let me fill you in.
[Scene 1]
Shy Country Boy meets Sophisticated City Boy.
Shy Country Boy falls in love with Sophisticated City Boy.
[Scene 2]
Silently, Shy Country Boy continues to love Sophisticated City Boy.
Sophisticated City Boy is oblivious to Shy Country Boys feelings.
[Scene 3]
Shy Country Boy watches Sophisticated City Boy look for love everywhere but with him.
[Scenes 4-12]
Shy Country Boy is there for Sophisticated City Boy whenever he needs him. Unfailingly, Shy Country Boy offers his advice when Sophisticated City Boy asks, listens when everything is just wonderful in Sophisticated City Boys life, and is a shoulder to cry on when true love invariably goes walking out the door on Sophisticated City Boy.
[Scene 13]
As theyve grown up together, theyve grown closer to each other. Shy Country Boy and Sophisticated City Boy are the closest of friends and are completely inseparable.
[Scene 14]
Shy Country Boy still loves Sophisticated City Boy, but knows that nothing good can ever come of being in love with your best friend, so he satisfies himself with his position as movie-watching companion, confidant and comforter.
... which brings us to the present.
This is your cue:
[Scene 15]
Sophisticated City Boy realizes that he loves Shy Country Boy, and he always has. That hes been looking past what was standing in front of him all along. Finally seeing what Shy Country Boy and all of his friends have known since the opening credits rolled.
And they all live happily ever after.
[Fade to black]
Sounds a lot like a movie, doesnt it? Youve been living it right along beside me, its your story as much as its mine, only Scene 15 has yet to be written in your version. Ive done my part and got us this far. But I cant do the rest of it alone. Ive done my best to give you the movie that you always wanted.
It's up to you to take us the rest of the way.
There's your movie. Maybe not the perfection you always envisioned, it might not be the one you thought you wanted, but maybe, one day, it will be good enough.
Until then, until what I have is good enough, Ill wait for you in Scene 14.
I love you.
Yours fo
