Based on:
Caroline, a black, single mother of 39, is maid to a well-to-do Jewish family in 1963 Louisiana. A life already difficult becomes more so as she faces unsettling changes within her family, the surrounding St Charles area and American society as a whole. The story is shaped by her changing (again) relationship with the son of the family for whom she works
