Chapter 2: The Unexpected Kiss

It�s been a month that Emily has been in the hospital. Her cancer was back and it was worse then ever. Dr. Stevens was Emily�s new doctor since the hospital has a new law, no working on family members. Nicholas felt a little insecure when Dr. Stevens was around. The doctor reminded him of Zander (Emily�s first husband). Stevens and Zander looked almost like twins. Nicholas had to remind himself that Emily was over Zander and that this guy is different. He may be married or something.
Nicholas walked up to Emily�s door. He was holding a cup of coffee for himself and a bouquet of roses for Emily. He was happy to come and see his wife but he was also scared. Dr. Stevens says he will to anything to make sure that Emily survives but it might be impossible. Nicholas looked through the little window in the door. Dr. Stevens was with Emily at this moment. Nicholas didn�t want to interrupt so he decided to stay out in the hall and keep looking through that window.
Emily didn�t seem to see him looking at her. She was intensely looking at some files that Dr. Stevens showed her. Dr. Stevens was injecting medication into Emily�s arm. Then it seemed like Dr. Stevens told her a joke because she was laughing. Emily handed the doctor the manilla folder that she was holding. The doctor took the folder and touched Emily�s hand. He slowly and softly caressed it as he brought it up to him lips and kissed it.
Nicholas felt like he was going to die of anger, looking at that low life doctor kissing Emily�s hand. He felt rage building inside of him as he watched. It was soon that Emily�s smile was wiped of and she pulled her hand away almost immediately. Nicholas felt reassure that Emily will never cheat on him, not even if temptation presented itself to her.
Dr. Stevens walked out of the room. Nicholas didn�t say anything, he didn�t want Emily to get upset. He entered the room and presented the pink roses to her. He pretended like he just arrived at her door when Dr. S was leaving.
�How are you today?� Nicholas asked, �What�s new?�
�I�m ok, been better.� She answered in all honesty.
�How�s the doctor? Are you making any progress? Is he helping you?� Nicholas wanted to know everything, even if he already knew it. He will make Emily tell him about the kiss the doctor presented to her, he�ll make her tell.
�Dr. Stevens is great, he is really helping me.� That was all that Emily said.
Nicholas�s insecurities were back again. He felt like he could trust Emily and that she would tell him anything but he asked her millions of questions and she didn�t tell him the truth. He wanted to know how Emily felt about that kiss and he will seek help to find out. He told her he has to take care of some things at home. When he walked out of the room, he called Elizabeth. It was true that girls talk and Emily will tell her best friend everything and Elizabeth will report back to him.

Elizabeth and Emily were talking. Nicholas was listening outside the door. Liz asked Em about the doctor and Emily reluctantly admitted that Dr. Stevens was hot. Emily also stated that the doctor gave her a kiss on the hand but that she pushed him off, again.
Nicholas was shocked. The word �Again� was ringing in his head. �How can it be?� he though to himself, �When did he kiss her?�
�It was kinda sweet the first time.� Emily told Liz, �He was giving me my med�s and I was a little scared that they weren�t helping me, so he kissed my hand.�
�Did you tell Nicholas?� Elizabeth asked.
�No, he will only get jealous.� Emily was saddened by the answer she presented.
�What�s wrong?� Elizabeth saw the sudden sadness in Emily�s eyes.
�It just hit me. When I was battling cancer the first time around, Nicholas was the love that brought me back.� She paused, �What if this time, love isn�t strong enough?� She asked with tears in her eyes.
�Don�t worry. There is no love greater then what the two of you have. You�ll make it, don�t worry.� Elizabeth reassure her best friend, but she didn�t believe what she said.
Outside the door, Nicholas suddenly found himself thinking the same thing. What if love doesn�t conquer all.
