Chapter 2: Playing With Knives

Alexis gasped of surprise. She closed her eyes and opened them again, the woman was still there. She was too afraid to turn around but she knew she had no other choice. She turned her head and her body to face the shadow. The shadow, however, was gone. She gasped again.
Ric woke up from his deep sleep as he felt Alexis shaking him and screaming �Wake up!�
�What�s wrong with you, can�t I sleep?� He was aggravated, everyone is when they are woken up.
�I think there�s an intruder in the house.� She sounded scared and worried.
�No there isn�t, the cops said there isn�t and I believe them.�
�No, seriously, I think I saw someone standing with a knife.�
Ric sat up in bed and thought for a minute. Then he asked �What is that mystery book that your reading about?�
�Oh, you insensitive bastered, don�t change the subject.�
�I�m not. Just answer the question.� He insisted.
�It�s about 10 unknown strangers stuck together in a private island. All of them have a deadly secret and one by one they are being killed off.� She answered, �Why........� She was cut off.
(The book is actually called �And Then There Were None� by Agatha Christie, yes, the book is real, I�ve read it.)
�Were any of them killed with a knife?� He interrupted his wife.
�Yes, the butler was found stabbed to death.�
�And what happened next?�
�I don�t know, I haven�t gotten that far.�
�You see, the last thing you read was about the stabbing and then you went to sleep. It�s possible that you dreamed it all you.�
�It�s almost possible, the only problem is I woke up and blinked and it was still there, plus I don�t remember falling asleep.�
Ric thought for a minute and then continued, �Maybe the dream scared you to the point you had a difficulty separating it from reality.� He paused, �The woman with the knife was all a dream, in the dream you blinked and as you opened up your eyes, you woke up for real.�
�But why did I still see the woman?�
�Because your eyes still haven�t adjusted and they were playing tricks on you.�
�You know, your right. I just over dramatized it a little...........� She was cut off when she heard Kristina crying in the other room. �I�ll go check on her.�
Ric was still sitting on the bed. He leaned over to Alexis�s night-stand and got the book from it. He turned to the first page and decided to do a little reading while Alexis was taking care of Kristina. He wasn�t even done with the first page when Alexis stormed in holding a knife by the blade and shaking.
�Ok Alexis, calm down..... Put down the knife.� Ric got out of bed and he was a little scared, who knew what Alexis was thinking at that time, no one said that she was normal.
�I, I found...this by Kris-Kristina-a�s bed. It was- was on the- the- the floor.� Alexis studered it all out.
Ric understood what was going on. He told Alexis to wait in the room while he got down to the kitchen to get a plastic bag. He got back up stairs with the bag, he put the knife in it. He hugged Alexis who was crying at the time. Tomorrow he will turn the knife in to the forensics to see who had brought it in.
